Chapter 6 : We Need Rules!

"Suits you," I whispered quietly to myself, I've actually never heard that name anywhere but it suits his face and personality perfectly.

"What?" He asked. Now he was sitting up on the bed with hands on either sides and head down. He looked up for a second and then dropped again. He looked tired and like those gangsters who threaten people for money by barging in their homes, only gangsters weren't as gorgeous as him.

I extinguished that though as soon as it entered by brain and quickly thought of something to blurted out, "Now that we are past the stage of knowing each other's names, I think it's time we settle other issues."

"Like?"

I smiled, "Rules."

"What's up with you and your rules?" He made a stupid face that showed his distaste for regulations.

Well, the world wouldn't be functioning without some sort of control, my roomie. Rebellious people like you won't understand, honey.

"It's important." I said sitting on my bed facing him. It was a good way to talk, sitting face to face but still at a good distance.

"Go ahead."

"I've thought of a few, but there will always be room for more in the near future." I suggested holding the notepad and pen in my hands, my legs crossed under me Indian style and a smile on my face, just to annoy him.

"Start."

Looks like he's annoyed.

Good.

"First and foremost - no invasion of privacy. That's the most important thing, respect my personal life." I announced and scribbled it on the paper to make a note of it before I forget. Then I looked up to see his reaction, his lips were turned up in a frown.

"Why would I want to poke my nose in you life?" He said in a dry tone as if it was last thing he would want to do.

I raised an eyebrow and looked at him head to toe, "Sure?"

"You could be drowning in a sewer and I wouldn't help you, I'm out of your business."

Good enough.

"Good. Next, I'll use the shower first since I will probably have morning classes. Wait, what is your major?" I asked, I was surprised at my own stupid-ness, I knew nothing about my roommate other than his name.

Laurent looked down and then back up at me, I swear his eyes had gone yellow for a second but that could simply be an effect of light from the window.

"Ancient History." He answered simply, no reason or explanation for choosing such a uncommon major.

"What is that?" I inquired, curious to know what it meant, the only ancient history I know is the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bomb blast.

"World before and after war." His voice was getting tighter with every question I was asking so I decided to shift the conversation to a lighter side.

With a click of tongue I said, "Oh, sounds boring."

"It is." He agreed. Laurent was not a talker, unlike me he was only replying in a few words or really short sentences, a good thing. Maybe I can just pretend he doesn't exist and live peacefully.

"I'll use the bathroom first and then it's all yours."

"M'kay." He agreed once again.

So far our arrangement was going great, he was easier to deal with than I thought.

I thought of a few minutes to come up with another ones and scribbled back on the paper, "Keep your side however you want but not a spec of your trash should be seen on my side, I'll draw a line later."

Like the rest of the times I expected him to agree with this one too but apparently he didn't want to stand up to my expectations and had to speak up.

"You are going a little too far with that line." He said distasteful-ly, if I wasn't already so mad at him, I would have appreciated his deep voice, but I had a boyfriend and I'm the type of person who is loyal always, this year was going to be hard.

I sighed, "Not far enough," and pointed the tip of my pen at his face, "I would have added a whole curtain, or wall between us if possible." I added.

"Outrageous, what do you take me for?" He scoffed in disbelief, honestly speaking I was a little scared but then what was the worst he could do? We were in a dorm room and there were authorities here. He was not a mob boss who could scare me anytime they wished. So I became brave.

"A guy." I answered, glaring at him the same way he was shooting daggers at me, our eyes met in a war and faught against each other along with the sharp knives of words.

After a whole minute of not blinking he finally withdrew his eyes from mine and looked away, the way he slightly flinched away it felt as if he saw something bad, something scary.

"And what's so bad about that?" He asked but much more normally this time, his eyes were more of a vibrant green now and the yellow had faded into non-existence. I noticed how he avoided looking into my eyes, he was looking in every direction but mh eyes.

Weird.

I shrugged away the little feeling that I felt in me and simply reasoned what I felt, "That's the worst thing to be. Men are the most vicious animals."

His eyes widen and eyebrows rose up hiding under his hair, he opened his mouth to swear at me but closed it in time when he saw my warning gaze at him,

"I'm stunned, god still makes people like you?" I nodded and gave him a bright toothy smile.

"Surprising, isn't it?"

He shook his head and laid back on the bed like we were not having a good conversation.

That was very rude.

"So, are you going to abide by the rules?" I asked hopefully to which he sneered in response.

"Do I get a choice?"

"Um no." Without any regret I answered.

"Why do you ask then? Leave me alone."

I clapped my hands happily and promised, "Rest well! I'll try to avoid you as much as possible."

"Same here, now get out of my sight." Laurent snapped harshly but that barely scratched the happy surface of my heart.

"Okay!" I sang happily, in my mind I had already stabbed him countless times so I was in a good mood now.

Laurent's face was hidden under his arm, blocking the sunlight to fall on his face. I realised the light was troubling him so I went ahead and closed the curtains.

I heard him sigh and turn his back to me, shrugging I went to the bathroom to see if he had changed any of my settings, thankfully everything was just as I left with only an addition of his toothbrush and other things.

Since our closets were separate I wasn't worried about him taking up all the space, but I will have to keep it locked from now, what if he turned out to be a pervert? I don't want to deal with that kinda situation.

Classes haven't even started yet and I'm already tired, god knows what will happen once my schedule is packed with the boring classes.

I sat on my bed and took a look at his sleeping figure, which now looked more like a shadow in the darkness, and groaned silently. How am I supposed to explain this to Michael? He's gonna flip when he knows I have a guy for a roommate.

"You brought problems for me, roomie." I murmured to myself and fell backwards on my pillow. Seeing him sleep was making me sleepy as well and there was no better way to deal with problems than to sleep it through.

Maybe all this will disappear when I wake up? Maybe I'll be with Michael instead of the rude black bean.
