Chapter 6 - Longing

Damon’s P.O.V

I pulled up to The Shake coffee stop annoyed that my father had sent me on this errand in his place, I hated being stuck with menial tasks like this.

“You need to learn as someday soon you will take my place as leader of this pack”

His growling command played back into my head, I could have fought back as the Alpha command did not work on his own children or Luna. That would have been foolish. Although my father was not as strict as other Alphas his pride was his downfall. If I disappointed him that would cause punishment. I saw Carlos, my father’s beta waiting at the edge of the parking lot and tree line. He was dressed in a formal suit wearing sunglasses, my father told him to be inconspicuous but this was dumb. Dressed like that would bring attention to him, I thought he was a bit slow but this proved it. Although his speed and strength made him a great second I wished my father had sent someone a bit smarter. I parked and rolled down my window refusing to get out to meet him, I saw him sigh in defeat and approach. Smirking to myself, I enjoyed annoying the elders.

“Damon, why are you here”

His tone was gruff and annoyed, frustration and annoyance filled me. Insufferable that he would take such a tone with me,

“It doesn’t matter tell me what was sooo important father needed to drop everything to get here.”

I returned his tone as his eyes flashed anger but I didn’t care. Part of me was curious, father had told Carlos to stand guard here to watch which packs were traveling to Diamond Valley’s lands. Smart of him really, to know which competition would be there as not all of the council members were likely to attend this year’s meeting due to the increased tensions with each other. Many other packs had started to live by their own rules rather than the old ones. My father was one of the first Alpha’s to change the way a pack was run however he kept it quiet. He had explained to me that sometimes the best way to protect our people was to keep secrets from the other packs. After all, my mother had died trying to encourage the other Lunas to follow in our lead, war had broken out between many of the packs once my father broke away. I was only small and had no memory of these times, father always made sure to tell me about it in great detail fearing it may happen again someday soon. Growing up he would tell me stories of my mother, she sounded like a very caring, beautiful woman with a fire rage for doing what was right. I was always amazed at the strength my father had to continue to live without her.

“The girl is here Damon, I called to notify your father not you”

His voice was laced with annoyance, causing my patience to wane. I could not understand why he always treated me like a nuisance, yes I pushed buttons but I was soon to be the new Alpha.

“Carlos, you dare take such a tone with your future Alpha?”

“Damon, please you know that’s not what I meant”

Carlos’s voice shook with some fear, realizing his tone too late. I thought about letting him have it, I wouldn’t harm him but he needed to learn his place. Before I could do anything a delicious smell hit me, the mix of a freshly bitten apple mixed with rain. My wolf Sam growled

“Mate”

As I swung my door open, I looked around franticly as Carlos stared at me frowning confusion and fear lingering in his eyes. Long curly silver hair whipping in the wind caught my eyes as a figure disappeared behind the tree line. Carlos glanced towards where I looked as I followed this stranger no longer in control of my body. Sam was focused on claiming her. Carlos followed behind me, he chuckled quietly hearing Sam in our pack link as realization had set in. I stopped as we reached the tree line fiercely searching around each person that was grouped here. Unable to smell her Sam growled in frustration knowing we would not be able to claim her here. It would be a risk our kind he. He retreated a little allowing control back to me. My eyes locked on a woman with raven black hair and deep ocean blue eyes that seemed oddly familiar. Her eyes made my wolf jump in excitement however she showed fear looking back at me. I glanced as she did towards a red-haired girl and her, the sliver-haired one. I could not see her face unfortunately but Sam and I looked her up and down. Her full figure was on show. Thanks to the tight black jeans she wore with a simple black tank top. I snapped my head away from her as Carlos whispered

“Sir that’s her, the one with the black hair, the Luna of Diamond Valley Pack”

I growled angrily that he took the focus of my lovely mate away from me. I closed my eyes and breathed deeply trying to calm myself but hoping I would get another whiff of my mate's scent, realizing that if she was with the Luna then she most likely would be the missing child Alpha Erik was always talking about. She had his hair.

“Sir they are leaving”

Carlos seemed anxious, uncertain of what he should do as I stared at the group leaving. My eyes lingering on the male. He stared back at me with hatred, he knew who we were. With so many other people around I could not place his scent, I knew he was not a werewolf but not human either.

“Follow them, I will alert father”

Sam growled upset that we would be leaving without our mate. Knowing she was so close to us we could just take her, but my pack would have to come first. Besides I thought to Sam, we know where she going now. There will be plenty of time to claim her.

I attempted to link my father but he ignored it. I growled in frustration knowing I would have to return home to speak to him in person. Father was such an arse sometimes, I knew he would assume that I was skirting my responsibilities. I knew that being Alpha would take up all of my time and I really wanted to enjoy what little freedom I had. Sometimes I would run off to a club or pub for a few hours just to get away. I narrowed my eyes as Carlos linked me,

“They are leaving the parking lot now Damon, did you feel your mate?”

I growled in frustration through the link,

“Yes. The one with silver hair. I cannot reach my father through the link”

Carlos chuckled,

“The Alpha’s girl, Goddess has smiled at you”

He closed the link. He still had a job to do after all. I drove out of the parking lot before that sweet apple scent hit me again. I watched as a cheap green hatchback passed me. Sam begged for me to follow causing me to grip the steering wheel fighting with my sense of loyalty to my father. Without a second thought, I drove after her, making sure I was at least 3 cars behind theirs. I followed until they pulled into a motel that incidentally my father owned, a wicked smile came over me before I took a U-turn to return back home. Sam was satisfied knowing we could come back later to see her, to meet her and have what is ours. I just hoped my father would understand and let me go to her.
