Chapter 18: A Business Trip

"There’s a structural collapse at the plant under construction in Tulsa." Prisley says urgently.

Heather sits up in a start, "Was anyone hurt?"

"Fortunately, no," Prisley answers, "but the collapse is extensive. I have to go check it out. I'm in charge of this project."

Heather thinks for a moment, "I can't leave at present. Steve will go with you. It's not convenient for you to go that far alone."

Prisley looks at Steve with a determined look, "Thank you Steve. I'll pass on the tasks at hand. And I'll meet in the garage in an hour."

"Take my plane," Heather adds.

"No, thanks. The flight to Tulsa is at an appropriate time," Prisley immediately declines his kindness.

Steve is about to thank Heather for the plane when Prisley declines the offer. Awkwardly, he holds back his words.

What is wrong with her? Accepting someone else’s flowers and necklace, but falling out with me? Heather senses that the little hedgehog has raised all her quills against him.
