The Men's Shoes

"Don't worry, Mrs. Fisher. I'll make sure Nathalie would have something in her stomach before the end of the night." Jasper said back on my behalf. He then smiled at mum to make sure she will not get worried. "And besides, my stomach has been rumbling since we arrived in the mansion."

Indeed, Jasper had missed a few meals since this morning because he was with me the entire time. And yet I haven't heard him complaining. We only ate a few burgers and veggies but I know it's not enough for someone like Jasper who loves to eat.

"All right. Thanks, Jasper. You're such a good friend to my daughter ever since you met her. And for keeping our little secret this entire time." Mum clapped Jasper's shoulder to extend his appreciation. "Anyway, I have to go. The rest of the packs might have already been done with their meals."

"Mum, aren't you supposed to shoo them away? We already buried dad's corpse. Why are they still doing here?" Out of curiosity, I asked.
