CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Avery alighted the cab after making her payment. She was standing right before her house and was quite nervous as she wondered what her father must have been doing.

“Hi, Avery Anderson.” A chubby dark lady greeted her while walking her golden retriever. She had a broad smile on her face.

“Hi.” She mumbled as she glanced at the lady. “Uh, have you seen my Dad?” She asked.

“No.” The woman replied. “By the way, how is he doing?” She asked but before Avery could reply, a boy on a skateboard bumped into the woman.

“What the…?” The woman said as she was knocked to the ground while the boy took off. “Come back here right now, you piece of shit!” She cursed, walking off with her dog in anger.

Without wasting much time, Avery hastened her steps toward the front porch, and twisting the doorknob, the door gave way for her. It was silent and the house was just the way she had left it, three days ago.
