Chapter Forty Five

Elizabeth's POV

I felt a chill in my bones when I heard him ask me that question. Did he follow me when I climbed the window? Did he have someone stalk me? I pondered.

Their question came so suddenly from him, so it threw me off guard.

I covered it up quickly and answered:

Like I said before, I went out for a walk because I wanted to relax and forget.

I didn't feel like myself, so I needed to clear my head. I repeated

He scowled at me, squeezing my clothes around my neck tighter.

I held his hand, dragging it off my clothes. I struggled to breathe.

"You are lying to me; if you are going for a walk, why did you follow the window instead of the door? Why did you hide if you were going for a walk?" he questioned further.

"I did not have the strength to face you; I figured that if I asked you, you might not agree immediately, and we would end up throwing words at each other."
