What the fuck is happening?
That was all I could think as I stood in that dark alley watching Shayla storm off. Did she just say she feels worthless when she’s with me? I’ve never done anything, to make her feel worthless. My rational side is telling me to let her go and give her time, but the other side refuses to let her be. I stare at her retreating back and shake my head before I go after her.
I was worried when she disappeared earlier that something was wrong because it's not like her to leave without a word. Even the text messages she sent me was cold and direct. I can only imagine what she must have thought overhearing that conversation with Sophie, but she really did get it all wrong. Was a small part of me hoping to get a reaction out of Sophie when she found out I was married, yes it did. I loved her with all my heart, and she broke me when she just up and left me. I didn’t do this to get her back or get one over on her. It just went in that
“Oh, my bad, I didn’t see no ring.” He claims. I nod and lift her hand, look at the diamond ring on her wedding finger, and look at him.“Can’t really miss it mate.” I hiss putting a little emphasis on the ‘mate’ “Leave.” I growl and watch as he holds his hands up and backs away. As soon as he leaves, I spin Shayla around and look down at her. Her usual light green eyes go dark the moment our eyes meet. She was pissed. So, here I am, at one in the morning chasing her down the street. I grab her hand before she could get too far and pull her back to me. “Shayla, will you please just get in the car and let’s talk?”She sighs and stares at the ground. “There is nothing to talk about. Go home, Cole.” She tries to pull her hand out of my grasp and looks up at me when I tighten my grip, not letting her go.“We’re going to talk about this, and you’r
Have you ever had that feeling where you feel as though you’re slowly suffocating like someone has their hands around your lungs and they’re just squeezing every bit of air out of you—that’s the only way I could explain the way I was feeling at that very moment when I asked Cole if he was still in love with Sophie and he didn’t answer me. I felt all the oxygen leave my lungs. When I turned and looked at him, I got my answer. He’s still in love with her. Even if he can’t admit it to himself. I had to get out of that car. I was in desperate need of air, and I was terrified he would see the tears that I was fighting to keep at bay.As I walk along the waterfront. I keep telling myself that I’m being stupid; it’s just an arrangement; it was a game from the very beginning. I have no right to be upset with him. He can love whoever he wants. He doesn’t owe me a damn thing. As far as he’s concerned, he’s holding
I shrug and hold up my thumb and forefinger, “Maybe a little.”He chuckles. “Then, yes, I miss you.” I smile, and he reaches out and pokes my side gently when I don’t slap his hand away like he’s used too he drops his hand to his side, a little frown on his face. He sighs a moment later and runs his fingers through his hair. “I’m really burnt out, and you’re always so good at distracting me, so I thought we could do something?”I frown, “Do what?”“Something fun.” He suggests with a shrug, and I bite my lip. I have been avoiding him lately, maybe doing something fun together might be good for us both.“Uh, sure. What do you have in mind?” I question as we walk toward his car. Cole winks and smiles at me mischievously.“You’ll see.” I nod, and we get into the car. We made small talk on the journey to wherever he was taking me. “Oh,
I look at him thoughtfully and bite my lip, “If I win, we end the agreement end of this month.” Cole throws his head back and laughs.“Why did I know you were going to say that.” He tells me arrogantly, and I arch my brow at him challengingly.“Okay deal. If you win, you can back out of the agreement early.” He licks his lips with a boyish smile.“Okay, your terms.”Cole rubs his jaw, his eyes on mine for a long moment. “If I win, I get to kiss you whenever I want for a whole week.”I stare at him, and he stares back. I shake my head. “Cole, no.”“Why not?” He questions smirking at me daringly. “I’m agreeing to let you break our agreement earlier than planned, and all I’m asking for is a kiss.”I scoff and shake my head, “No, you’re asking for trouble. And you’re not asking for a kiss, you’re asking for a
‘Come on,…come on. Please, please let me win.’Shayla and I both stood still watching the ball go round and round and round before it drops. We lean over and stare at the number before we look at each other. “Yes!” I exclaim, holding my club up over my head. Shayla stares at the number for a long moment before she looks at me. I reach over and take hold of her chin and tilt her head up. “Pucker up baby, these lips are mine for the week,” I say gazing into her green eyes, and she pulls her head back sulking.“Cole, come on, you can’t be serious about this.” She says, crossing her arms over her chest. I laugh and nod animated.“Oh, but I am. If the shoe were on the other foot and you won, you would have made me end the agreement, wouldn’t you?” I ask smirking at her smugly. She rolls her eyes and sighs.“Fine, no tongue.”I frown, “No. No, no, it’s
“If you’re getting the urge to tongue fuck my dimple again baby go right ahead.” I tease, and she giggles smacking my arm. We spent the rest of the drive joking around about various things and rapping along to songs on the stereo. The time was just after nine ‘o clock at night when we pull up at the place Shayla suggested. It was bustling with people, everyone eating food while walking around, music playing in the background, twinkling lights. It was a nice setting. It felt cosy and welcoming. Shayla and I make our way through the crowd of people. I lace my fingers with hers and smile when she doesn’t pull away. She tugs me along to one of the carts. “So, what I usually do when I come here, is get little bits of food from different carts because there are too many goods choices to pick one. You up for that?” She asks, looking up at me and I smile nodding.“Sure, let's do it,” I reply, and she pulls me to a Mexican cart.
I press my forehead to hers and smile, “What can I say I’m just full of surprises.” I answer, using her own words on her and she grins, shaking her head. Much to my dismay, the song comes to an end the crowd disperses. Shayla pulls away brushing her fingers through her hair and looks up at me.“So, we have one last thing we have to do then we can go.” She says while I follow her as she navigates through the crowd. We walk over to the another, and I groan. I’m honestly so full I can’t eat anymore.“More food?” I ask her, and she smiles up at me as we queue up.“This is dessert, and you won’t be sorry after you eat it, I promise.” I nod, and she steps up and tells the girl at the stand her order. She’s given a cup full of something I couldn’t even tell you what, drizzled with some sort of syrup. “Come on.” I follow her, and we walk over to the banks overlooking the rive
“Coooooole?!”“Yeeeees?”I bite my lip and curse myself for leaving my towel on my bed. I stood in the bathroom for over ten minutes, wondering what the hell I’m going to do. I can’t walk out naked without Cole seeing me, and I’m bloody freezing.“Uh, I left my towel on my bed. Can you please bring it to me?” I call out and hear his footsteps as he walks past the bathroom.“Aren’t there any in the drawer?” I hear him ask.“I wouldn’t ask you if there was, now would I?” I retort shivering. I hear him chuckle on the other side of the door.“Fair enough, unlock the door then.” I tiptoe over to the door and unlock it before I open it wide enough to get the towel. I look up at him when he doesn’t let go of the towel, he smirks at me roguishly as I stare up at him.“Cole, let go of the towel,” I say tugging on it, and he p
