Chapter 15: Fractured Hearts

The morning sun streamed through the curtains, painting the hotel room in soft golden hues. As Gavin and Melisa woke up, a sense of tension hung in the air. Melisa couldn't shake off the feeling of unease from the previous night's phone call, and she was determined to get answers.

"Gavin," she began, her voice calm but firm, "I heard you talking to someone last night. Who was it?"

Gavin hesitated, his mind racing for a plausible explanation. He knew that telling the truth was the right thing to do, but he was afraid of hurting Melisa even more.

"Babe, I told you, it was just a work-related call," he said, trying to brush it off. "Nothing important"

Melisa raised an eyebrow, her intuition telling her that Gavin was hiding something. "Gavin, please don't lie to me," she said softly. "I heard you mention a name, and I need to know who it was."

Gavin sighed, realizing that there was no escaping the truth. "It was someone from my past"
