Chapter 96
I sat in the sun for a few moments longer, enjoying the way it heated my skin and hair. Just a few days in the ice kingdom and I was ready for a little bit of warm weather.
While the heat was comforting, it did nothing to chase away what gnawed at me. When I was searching for the next ruler of the Day court, there was a clear wall that kept me from going any further. Whether it be because of my connection, or another mystical reason, I knew that wall was the end of this realm, and the beginning of another.
I remembered something I was once told, that the Earth and Fae realm are connected. While it made little to no sense, the future ruler had to be in the human realm.
'How would a human be a useful ruler to the Fae?' Atlas's thoughts trickled into my own. 'How long could a human possibly survive in this realm? Nearly everything is out to kill you, and the Fae are immortal. What is sixty--maybe seventy years of ruling when you'll simply die shortly after? Seventy

We met Alette back at our suite an hour later. With the High Lady's cold, furious eyes on my face, I descended the stairs. My arm was linked through Atlas's, and more than anything, I desperately hoped I remained on my two feet.
