If there was anything that kept Emmaline’s mind completely away from work, it was children. She could stay in a room full of them and feel nothing but pure joy that they produced. She didn’t think they were stressful at all she thought of them as little bundles of joy and stress relief.
And after the stressful week she had which was more or less about Alan’s Houdini act she needed to de-stress with immediate effect which is why she took the opportunity to watch Chloe’s kids while she went to spend some quality time with her mate.
“Thanks for watching them Emma.” Chloe thanked passing off a sleepy Dylan to her. Emma patted the boy’s head adoringly and hugged his soft warm body to her chest.
“Common we both know I should be the one thanking you guys,” Emma joked. Chloe’s husband, Josh laughed as he tried to pry his hands away from his three year old daughter’s grip. Brianna was a stubborn little thing and at such a young age Emma could see that she was going to be so much like her mother when she grew up.
Emma cleared her throat and stretched out her hand for Brianna to take, “Come on Bri, let’s go inside.”
Brianna pouted her small lips and sent a flattering puppy face to her father who had since had a hard time falling into the trap of her beautiful eyes. “Can I come with you Daddy?”
Also she was attached to her Dad and hardly left his side which made her reluctant to stay with anyone else that wasn’t her parents. And you might have guessed going to school every day was tough for Josh.
Josh laughed and glanced at his wife who was already wearing an you’re-gonna-have-to-sort-this-one-out-yourself look. He retracted his gaze to Emma, the only woman he knew that could say no to Brianna’s puppy eyes.
“I’m not going to say it again Brianna come inside with me.” Emma commanded with a gaze that always made her obey.
She reluctantly left her father’s side and walked to Emma’s side, she gave them a sad wave before going inside the house by herself.
It was going to be a fun afternoon Emma thought after Chloe and Josh left….
After hours and hours of watching cartoons and baking cookies with Chloe’s kids, Emma felt like she was a new person. She felt refreshed once again and ready to take on the world. Emma left her house few minutes after Josh came to pick up his children, he thanked her profusely for her help and Emma brushed it off like it was nothing.
Now she was walking in a slow pace to the pack’s borders. It was kind of habitual for her now to check how well the patrol guards were securing their territory every Friday evening. And since the event that happened exactly one week ago with Alan Baker, she felt she had to check it to be sure that her people were safe.
“Good evening Alpha Emma.” The head of the patrol team greeted walking up to her. Emma unfolded her arms and exchanged pleasantries with him. Mr. Gaius was a middle aged man that served in the same post during her father’s tenure as Alpha. Because of his age he would soon step down for a much younger and active man and he never failed to express his displeasure about it every time he saw Emma.
But this time he decided to keep it to himself knowing that she was checking the perimeter today because of the incident that happened last week.
Emma walked from the east to the west of their border checking to make sure that each post was occupied with at least one or two men. When she was satisfied with what she saw she decided to go for a run in her wolf form outside the pack’s territory.
“Let me send two of my men with you just to make sure that you’d be safe,” Gaius suggested. Alpha Emma simply smiled and told him, “I’ll be fine on my own.”
With that she trotted into the darkness that had fallen over the land.
Five minutes into her short walk, she started to become restless. She didn’t know why and she didn’t know what was causing it but her mind was spiraling in a way she had never imagined.
Emma couldn’t focus on a single thought and some parts of her body were tingling.
She raised her nose in the air and breathed in the evening air for a full five seconds, a sickeningly sweet aroma passed through her nostrils and on impulse her legs started taking her to where the scent was coming from. Goosebumps sprang up on her skin as her heart hammered in her chest in anticipation, she wasn’t a fool, she could tell the signs and besides she had heard a lot of people describe the feeling of meeting your mate for the first time.
A part of her could not believe it, and the other part of her thought her body was playing tricks on her. But she wouldn’t fully believe until she saw him since seeing is believing.
She used her hands to remove a branch in her way and after a few more steps she walked into a small clearing. It was very dark now but Emma could perfectly see the outline of the man lying on the floor with several cuts across his body. She stood rooted to the spot as she gazed at him.
Her hands were shaking and she keep could barely keep her heart beat in check.
Her mate, the last key to her happiness was finally here.
But he was dying. With shaky hands Emma reached into her pocket and brought out the phone she had stuffed there when she left the house, she put on her flashlight and checked the surrounding. For some one that was always alert and quick to act, she was behaving like a newly born sheep practicing how to walk.
Emma inhaled and exhaled, taking deep breaths to calm herself and wake her sleeping brain to action. When she felt calm enough, she walked towards the unconscious man and knelt beside him.
Alan Baker worked as a spy for a top secret organization run by ghost individuals, people with enough power and wealth to buy countries. As far as he knew this people got anything they wanted even if it meant sacrificing a few lives. Fortunately, Alan’s department was that, he was what you would call an Informationist, in his case he dealt with collection of information by directly relating with the targeted person just like he did with Emma. Since the time he had spent working at the organization, he had never questioned the decisions his Boss made or the missions he was assigned to. But things were taking a change in his mind as the topic of Alpha Emmaline remained in his mind. He found it hard to believe that all they wanted to take from her was her title as Alpha of The Golden Wolves Pack. He was of the opinion that they were after so much more. But he couldn’t ask around or else he will be under suspicion by the firm and that was far worse than any punishment. His mind went ba
“You’re awake.” Emma whispered as she stared back at Caleb who was now wide awake and conscious. Now that Caleb was awake he could fully reassign himself to do the mission that he was sent to do. As anyone would expect from a top secret spy organization the accident that got him unconscious a few metres away from The Golden Wolves territory was all planned. His boss took a big gamble when he decided that they would put him outside in the pack in a place Emmaline was sure to pass when she did her roundly check-ups. This was because she was unpredictable and only a few people could gauge her actions and thought process. Emmaline dropped the bag that she had been carrying from the office, now that she tried to cover the distance between her and her now conscious mate it felt too heavy to move with. Her breath hitched and she stopped walking once his sweet scent wafted past her nostrils, it was the same scent that caught her attention in the forest.Somehow it was sweet and manly. If sh
Believe it or not but a few days had passed since Caleb’s waking. Emma continued to ignore the piling work her Beta an Gamma left for her choosing to spend all her time with her mate but she wasn’t stupid so she made sure that they both saw her working tirelessly until she ran off to the cabin to spend time with Caleb. In the space of those three more days her mood and countenance had brightened beyond explanation. Lincoln didn’t know what to think of it because she was even more unpredictable than this pregnant wife. Out of concern he asked her what changed but she replied him with a smile that spelt…..I’m not ready to talk about it yet.Since that day he dropped the matter knowing fully well that nothing Emmaline did could escape him. Caleb on the other hand was dying to come out of the cabin and acquaint himself with Emmaline’s pack. He had notified his boss on the success of their infiltration and what was next was for him to get himself acquainted with Emma’s group of friends a
The day following Caleb’s agreement to be introduced to Emmaline’s friends and then to the pack at large was specially set aside so that they could both arrange the story of how they met and came to know that they were mates. As usual Emmaline did what she was supposed to do very early in the morning giving the impression to a suspicious Lincoln that everything was indeed alright and back to normal but to his surprise when he went to check on Emmaline by some minutes to three in the afternoon her office was empty with piles of paper on her desk like she had never been there in the first place. Lincoln sighed and closed the door disappointed in his childhood friend and Alpha. He was beyond confused at her current behavior; he had never for once in his life seen her act so mysterious and irresponsible. Chloe’s hard to miss footsteps brought him out of his reverie and he raised up his head to see her walking in his direction with a file in her hand. She rose an eyebrow at him and stop
While Alpha Emmaline’s faithful friends talked about her odd behavior and how best to get them to talk to her, the Alpha in question was in the cabin that had now become her favorite place on the pack with the man she had desperately wished for all those years ago. Presently, she was seated across her mate, Caleb with a big smile on her face that portrayed how happy she was. They had been like that for close to an hour and a half deliberating on the story they would tell everyone when she finally introduced him to her friends and the pack. Weirdly enough Caleb was of the opinion that they should stick to what really happened on the night they met but Emmaline thought that they story would be too fishy and people will ask questions that she wasn’t keen on answering. “How about that we met in your pack when there was a meeting or mate-meet or something?” Emmaline asked, stating a different opinion from the last one for what had to be the fifth time. Caleb shook his head unimpressed
Chapter 10:Emma felt something she never felt in her life, secured and loved. She reciprocated his hug and had a bright smile. Unfortunately, the warm hug was interrupted by an incoming call from Emma’s phone.“Uhm, I will get this,” she said shyly and walked to her bag before retracting her phone, seeing that it was a call from Lincoln, she felt nervous as she had been dodging her job as an Alpha ever since she met her mate.Nevertheless, she pressed the green answering icon before placing the phone by her ears “I am not calling as your Gamma but rather as your friend, can we meet now?” she could hear the sadness in his tone and it was unfair for her to treat him this way.Emma sighed heavily before glaring at Caleb who glared at her attentively with a soothing smile “Yes, let's meet at the fun house out of the territory” she said and Caleb felt excited but he couldn’t express it.He was tired of being confined in here, he has to meet with the other members of the pack so he could s
Caleb glared at Emma, he wanted to see how the smart Alpha will handle such a case. Will she tell the truth or lie to her friends?“I met him unconscious, but please don’t tell anyone about this, and don’t ask any further questions." “Unconscious? Then what made you think he is not a rogue?” Lincoln frowned, even if he is her mate that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t check his background.“Linc,” she called angrily, Chloe held his hands signaling that now is not the time for all the questions.“So what now? Should we let the pack know about this?” Chloe asked trying to lighten the mood, Emma had a sad look as Lincoln was her best friend and she expected him to understand the joy she is feeling right now since she finally had a mate. The silence was interrupted by a call from Lincoln’s phone, he slid his hand in his pocket and retracted his phone without taking off his gaze from Caleb.“Spicy chips, your baby needs it now…now,” Elaine yelled, he pouted angrily before staring at Chloe who h
Caleb was excited that Emma and her friends came over for a drink, it was said that the most honest man is a drunk man. So here was his opportunity to gather information about any recent discovery of the pack.“A toast to the newfound mate.” Chloe raised her green bottle of beer as they all did the same and clicked, Emma smiled at Caleb before taking a sip.“This news will shut all those gossips in the pack, now you will finally be able to live in peace,” Chloe said joyfully.“That’s right, at least there will be someone else to handle your problems and not me.” Lincoln added as she pouted. Caleb picked a slice of lemon before handing it to Emma.“Of course, I am ready to share all your problems and worries…I will love that,” his green eyes stared deep into hers, she could hear her heart trying to leave her chest and also how comforting his gaze was.“Tell that to her parents tomorrow,” Chloe said breaking the invincible tension in the air, Caleb acted surprised and excited.“I am cur
