Chapter 18

SYLVIA

I woke with a start, my heart racing. A weight pressed down on my chest. Breathe, can’t breathe. I clawed at my chest to get it off. Hunter’s arm lay over my chest, I realized with relief. Gently I pushed his arm off me and sat up. It felt as if the darkness in the room constrained me. I needed air. I opened the French doors to the balcony and went out. The night air caressed my naked body, it felt good. I breathed in deeply, enjoying the scents of the forest.

Hands on my shoulders, I leaned back into his body, smiling.

“I just needed some fresh air, Hunter. I didn’t want to wake you.” I said, although I wouldn’t complain now that he was awake.

He didn’t answer me. I frowned. Sharp claws pierced my skin. No! I felt the sticky blood running down my back and arms.

 No! This is not happening. Wake up! Wake up! I can’t make a sound. I can’t move.
