Maven
I don’t know what brought me to this cottage, but all I know is the person living here has a unique scent. I’ve only smelled a scent like this once before and… it’s not possible for it to be the same person.I looked around and noticed whoever rescued me was no longer here. When I looked in the bathroom mirror, I noticed that the injuries I had gotten from being attacked had already healed because of my enhanced healing ability. I was grateful for the food the host had made for me and devoured it before I left. The longer I was around this scent, the more it was bothering me and my wolf because it was so familiar to the one that my mate, Elana, had. I knew it wasn’t possible for it to be Elena’s scent. Elena was long gone, and the scent was slightly different from hers.I try to shake the memories of her out of my head as I head back to my pack. I shifted into my wolf as I rushed back towards the Renegade Pack. As soon as I crossed over the border, my Beta was mind linking me to ask where I’ve been. It’s rare for me to stay gone overnight, so I understand why he was concerned. We need to figure out who attacked me. I’m the Alpha and I don’t look weak, so I don’t understand why anyone would target me when they know I wouldn’t be an easy kill.I huff as I head to my office so we can try to sort this out. Days passed, and we had no leads on what or who could’ve attacked me. My scars were already healed by the time I woke up, so the only person who could know was the person who tended to my wounds.I’m indebted to her. I plan to send her a check as a thank you… I don’t really want to see her again. Her scent was too familiar and brought back too many memories.I shake my head as I try to focus back on my work whenever I get a mind link from my Beta, Kaden, and he shouts in my head, “Alpha Knight, the council is demanding an emergency meeting!”My eyebrows furrow. This is unusual for the council and I mind link back, “What’s going on?”“They found an exiled wolf in town. They think it’s too dangerous to be left alone.”An exiled wolf? That’s… intriguing. It’s rare for a wolf to get exiled. They normally don’t live long after they are exiled because they can’t make it on their own or because a pack discovers them and kills them.I straighten my tie as I stand up and head out to see the council. The council has a small building that is designated for their meetings in the middle of our pack. Normally, they handle all the disagreements between pack members. It’s rare for them to need me present outside of the bimonthly meeting. As I walk into the building, I’m greeted by the one scent I didn’t want to smell. My head whips towards the scent and I see a woman with dirty blonde hair covering her face, her hands tied behind her back, and on her knees before the council.I watch as one of the councilmen, William, screams in her face, “Why were you exiled?!”He didn’t give her an opportunity to answer before he grabbed her by her hair and threw her to the ground. She cried out and I let out a growl as I stomped towards the council and demanded, “What is the meaning of this?”The girl struggles to get back on her knees and William stutters, “I-I was trying to assess if she-she’s a threat to us, Alpha.”My eyes narrow as I state, “You didn’t even give her a chance to respond before you threw her across the room.”A different councilman tried to defend William’s actions as he says, “Alpha, the girl is dangerous to our kind. She’s been exiled, she must be a traitor! She has to be punished!”The other councilmen voice their agreement and I look towards the girl. Normally, I wouldn’t hesitate to kill an exiled wolf. But… she’s the one who saved me. I have to return the favor.Everyone talks at once, coming up with different ideas to punish her, and I hold up my hand for everyone to quiet down. I look at the girl and she looks up at me and I see her honey brown eyes for the first time. I breathe out and say, “She will be punished.”The council mumbles their approval, and the girl trembles as I say, “She will have a choice. She can die or… she can be my slave.”Amelia
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. All of that traveling for… nothing. I will not be free. I have to be a slave, or I have to die?! What kind of cruel fate has the moon goddess given me?But… I recognize the man. He’s the man I saved the other night. Maybe he’ll be nice to me? He’s not killing me on the spot, so there’s a chance he is a good man.He crosses his arm and cocks his eyebrow as he asks, “What do you want to do, girl?”I bow my head towards him and say breathlessly, “I will be your slave.”He walks over and grabs my arms as he helps me stand to my feet. He turns me around and unties the rope that those other men used to capture me.The men around him start to say things like, “Alpha, how can you do this?”“Alpha, she’s an exiled wolf! She’s too dangerous to be left alive!”“You must rethink this, Alpha!”Once he is done untying my hands, he yells out, “Enough!”His voice startled me and caused me to jump and I noticed all the men in the room instantly shut their mouths and looked at him with wide eyes.He says, “If you are against my decision, then by all means you can challenge me over it! If you win, then you’ll be the Alpha and can choose to do whatever you want to the girl as you see fit.”His eyes flicker to each person across the room and he raises his arms up and says, “Come on! Any takers? Anyone want to challenge their Alpha?”No response and he spits out, “I didn’t think so. Elder Julian, can the meeting be adjourned?”The one he called on stutters out, “Y-yes, Alpha.”The Alpha grabs my arm and pulls on it as he leads me towards a car. I tried to keep pace with him, but his legs were so long it was hard to keep up. I’m grateful that he saved my life, but I’m terrified of what the future might hold as his slave.Once we get into the car, he passes me a phone and says, “Put in your address. I’ll let you have a few minutes to collect your things.”I’m shocked that he’s even giving me this opportunity, so I put my address in as fast as I can and pass the phone back to him, hoping he won’t change his mind.It takes a half hour to get back to the cottage, and we said nothing the entire time. He had classical music on in the car, which surprised me because, based on his rugged appearance, I would’ve expected something more… alternative. The man is handsome. He has dark brown hair that is styled; he wore a button-down shirt, but the sleeves were rolled up and I could see tattoos creeping out at the bottom of his sleeves. There was a small amount of stubble on his square jaw. I haven’t had much of a chance to look at his face because I don’t want to look like I’m gawking over him.We pull up to my cottage and he says, “You have 20 minutes and then we will head back to the pack.”I nod as I open the door and rush inside. Thankfully, I didn’t come to this town with much, anyway. Everything that I had brought or purchased could fit inside a duffle bag, so I rush inside to get everything together so I can go back to the car.A small part of me was tempted to run, but I don’t have much money left and if word spread about me running away from his pack, then I know other packs wouldn’t hesitate to kill me on sight. I must have faith that everything will be okay. Then again... this will probably be the only chance I have to run. Shouldn't I take it?
Maven This girl’s scent is driving me nuts. It’s way too similar to Elena’s.Elena’s scent was like sweet like honey, with just a hint of lavender, and this girl had the same scent, except she also had the smallest hint of citrus, like the smell of oranges.I’m ready to get back to the pack house and put some distance between the two of us. It’s too painful to be around her. The worst part is my wolf is adamant that she is our mate. I felt the tingles when I touched her skin, and her scent is driving me wild… but I can’t go through that kind of loss again. It doesn’t matter if she is my mate, I can’t accept her. Losing Elena, it was… it was my fault and I can’t be the one that causes another life to be lost.I gulp down the lump in my throat as the girl rushes back into the car with a single duffle bag. My eyebrows furrow, surprised to see her with such little belongings, but it doesn’t matter. If that’s all she wants to bring, then t
Amelia By the time I came back outside, Alpha Knight had already sent Veronica away. He breathes out as he sees me walk towards him with my duffle bag. He tells me, “Sorry about that. Veronica is my Beta’s daughter, and she’s always been a bit… wary of newcomers. Anyway, there’s a room you can have inside of the pack house. It has an attached bathroom, but the kitchen and dining room are on the main floor, so you’ll have to deal with that.”I nod, “Whatever you think is best, Alpha Knight.”We walk into the pack house, and he shows me my room and walks off. I look at the time and see that it’s now past 9, but with all the events today, I feel exhausted. I fall onto the bed and knock out. I wake up to the sound of knocking on my door. I get up and see a woman who was probably in her early 40s standing in front of me. Her eyes flicker to my face and she asks, “Are you Amelia?”I nod, “I am, and you are?” “Maggie, but call me Mrs. Wilki
I rush out of Alpha Knight’s office and make my way to the kitchen, where I know I’ll meet up with Maggie. As I wait for her, I start the clean-up process for the kitchen. The incident with Alpha Knight repeats in my head as I clean the dishes.I don’t know what it is about him, but there’s some kind of pull I have towards him. I don’t know if I should be intrigued by it or scared. But I have to make sure I don’t screw up again. I can’t get exiled from this pack… if I get exiled, it will be the nail in the coffin for me.I hear Maggie’s voice and it brings me out of my trance as she asks, “How did breakfast go, Ms. Amelia?”I smile softly, “It was fine. I struggled with the coffeemaker and ended up being a couple of minutes late, but otherwise, it seemed to be okay.”She makes a face at me with her eyebrows furrowed, her eyes squinted, and her lips pouted, but says nothing.
MavenIt’s been a month since I brought Amelia into our pack. My meeting with the council is coming up soon and I need to inform them I plan to give her the option to become an official member of the pack. She currently is still a rogue. She’s just been in the pack as my slave, but now that I see how well she’s doing here and I know she’s not a threat to us, I want to make her an official member. The council won’t like this decision, but I don’t care. I need her to know that she matters and that she’s done well around here.Honestly, she’s thriving. She does everything asked of her perfectly and after that first day, she’s never been late again. Maggie only has good things to say about her, she’s nice to every pack member she comes by even if they aren’t nice to her, and she has kept her distance from me just like I requested in the beginning…I love that she listened to my ins
MavenI detest the days that training runs late. It throws my entire day off schedule.Of course, I could leave early if I truly wanted to. But I respect our head trainer, Dustin, and I will not be the first to skip out. These group trainings are a great way to boost morale within the pack. They would see me as weak if I was the first one to leave.Maggie sees me from the kitchen and grabs a water bottle for me and tosses it to me. I mutter a thank you to her before I walk towards the stairs and take them two at a time all the way up.I huff as I open the door to my office, and I freeze in the doorway and watch as Kaden’s body stiffens, and he stops moving.I move my head around him and see Amelia quivering on the ground as blood pours from her nose. Her eyes flicker towards me and I maintain eye contact with her as I ask, “What’s going on here?”Kaden speaks, “Amelia tripped and fell when delivering your food, Alpha. I was just about to help her stand up.”At that moment, I noticed t
AmeliaMaggie knew something happened to me, but she respected me enough not to ask about it and to just give me lighter duties for the rest of the day. By the end of the day, she told me to go get some rest.In the morning my nose was still swollen, and I had bruising on my face. I take a deep breath, cursing the fact that I have a weak wolf that caused my healing process to be much slower than others. I want to act like yesterday never happened.I walk to the kitchen and start making breakfast. Maggie surprises me when she says, “Oh dear, I was going to take care of the Alpha’s breakfast.”I glance up at her and tilt my head to the side as I ask, “Why would you make his breakfast? It’s my responsibility.”She purses her lips and says, “I didn’t know if you’d feel up to it, Amelia.”“I’m fine. Let’s just move on.”She nods, “If you say so, miss. But if you need to talk… just know I’m here.”I close my eyes, taking in her words, and whisper, “Thank you, Maggie.”I continue on like nor
MavenI’ve wanted to initiate Amelia into our pack, but this isn’t the way I planned to go about it. I wanted Amelia to want to be a part of the pack. And now I feel like I’ve taken her choice away from her now and that is the exact opposite of what I wanted to do. But… Veronica made my blood boil, and she was out of line.I’m having so many issues between her and her father right now and it is making me feel incredibly on edge. My wolf was annoyed by them and temperamental, he wanted me to just kick them out of the pack, but I can't do that.We get into my office, and I close the door behind me. I notice when I walk past Amelia and raise my hand up to run it through my hair that she winced. I look at her confused for why she did that. Does she really think that I would hurt her?I know I haven’t been the kindest man toward her, but I didn’t think she thought I was that cruel. I ask, “Are you okay, Amelia?”Her eyes flicker towards me and she gives a tightlipped smile as she nods, “Ye
MavenAmelia and I tear apart, and I look towards the door and see Beta Kaden. A small part of me feels relieved that we were interrupted, but seeing the angry look on his face, I know that this will not be a pleasant conversation. He’s insanely protective of Veronica. I’m sure he’s not happy that I chewed her out. But he has pampered her too much and allowed her to believe that she can treat anyone any way she wants to, and I will not accept this behavior. Our pack needs a change.Honestly, with Amelia’s kindness and sincerity, she has shown me what kind of Alpha I want to be and how I want our pack to look like to others. I want to be kind to our members and treat them well. I want people to wish that they were a part of our pack. Kaden’s eyes burn with anger as they flicker between us, and I ask him, “What do you need, Beta?”His eyes focus on me, and he says, “Alpha, I heard you were initiating Amelia into the pack? Don’t you think that’s a risky id-”I cut him off, “I just initi
