Amber
Four years and a couple of months later...
I stare at my own reflection in the mirror, nervous because this marks my last day of being a free woman. Alex will turn eighteen in a week, and I’m heading there before that happens to get to know him again. I’m nervous, excited, and also plain terrified of what might happen.
A car is coming to pick me up in an hour, and then I’m leaving the Snowflake pack forever. The Lycanrock pack will turn into my new family, and the thought of that is unsettling.
I’m a werewolf and an Omega at that—if I felt weak and small in my own pack, just imagine how it will be to be surrounded by literal giants. Lycans are taller than what is normal and packed with muscles. It’s going to be nerve-wracking to become their Luna. What if they will laugh at having a werewolf for their Luna? It’s the second most important role in the pack hierarchy.
Sighing, I glance down at the picture I took four, almost five years ago, with Alex. It’s of us smiling at the camera while eating cake inside his kitchen. I wonder how he has been? Has he done any more gardening?
To be honest, Alex and I haven’t really talked much lately. In the beginning, we exchanged plenty of letters, but then he stopped replying to them, and he never accepted my invitation to become friends on social media. Is it because he dislikes me? Maybe he regrets accepting to marry me, a woman who is five years older than him?
Suddenly the door opens to my room, and my little sister, Libby, strolls inside with an apple in her hand. “Sup! You ready to marry that cute Lycan guy?”
A shy smile spreads over my lips. I might have called Alex cute once or twice in front of my sister. He left an impression on me after our first meeting, and I liked the fact he wasn’t as huge and hulking as his older brothers. Alex was much cuter than them, and that’s why I’m not worried about seeing him again. There might not be any love between us, but at least I don’t have to fear my own husband.
“I hope so,” my eyes travel back to the mirror. “I’ve worked on my makeup for like an hour now. Do you think Alex is going to find me pretty?”
Libby walks up behind me, placing her hands on my shoulders while meeting my smile in the mirror. “You look gorgeous,” she says, flipping my white hair with her fingers. “Alex would have to be blind not to find you stunning.”
I blush. “Thank you.”
She grips my shoulder, beaming at me. “You got this, and your Lycan husband is going to be so lucky to have you.”
“I hope so.”
An hour later, the car arrives to pick me up, and I try not to roll my eyes when my mom starts crying. My dad hugs her, stroking her back to console her.
“Calm down. It’s not like she is leaving us forever. Amber is just one phone call away,” my dad says, but I can see this is getting to him too. His bottom lip is trembling, something that only happens when he is fighting his tears.
I try to keep my own emotions in check for their sake, but my stomach is churning with anxiety. It’s not just about leaving my family and pack behind, but also the fact that I’m entering into a completely new world. A world where I have no one to rely on except for my new husband, Alex. I hope he is ready to take on that responsibility.
“I will miss you guys,” I say, hugging my mom and dad before turning toward Libby. “Take care of them for me.”
“I will,” she says with a smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. It’s unusual for my sister to cry, but she is barely keeping it together.
I sigh. “You want a hug?”
“Yes, please.”
Libby squeezes me, and then we let go, meeting each other’s eyes before I turn toward the car. The driver has already stepped out and is smiling at me. “You ready to go, Luna Amber?”
My parents and sister gasps as if they are shocked to hear someone refer to me as a Luna. I can’t lie; I’m baffled too.
I still haven’t grasped the fact I’m about to become the Luna of the Lycanrock pack, and I fight a laugh when I notice that even my smaller siblings, that were playing in the sandbox just a moment ago are gawking at me with renewed interest.
Everyone is looking at me like I’m a goddess, and the driver stifles a laugh and ducks away to hide any trace of it. There is, however, a knowing glint in his eye, and I decide that I like him—he definitely called me Luna to get a reaction out of my family, and he succeeded. There is respect written on their faces now, and I hold my head up a little bit higher.
“You guys take care, okay?”
I get into the car, and the driver closes the door behind me. As we drive away, I realize my heart is pounding with anticipation. It’s not every day that a werewolf girl gets to marry into a Lycan pack, let alone become their Luna.
I pull out my phone and start scrolling through my social media, hoping to take my mind off things. That’s when I notice the notification from Zeke, Alex’s brother.
My heart flutters as I click on it, hoping for good news.
Zeke: Hey Amber, it’s been a while! How have you been? Anyway, I’m just texting you to tell you things have changed. The Lycanrock pack has grown under my little brother’s care, and I can proudly announce that he is about to become the Lycan King. It means Alex is the most powerful Lycan in existence. I thought I should let you know that, and I also want to point out that you can still change your mind about which brother to marry. I wouldn’t mind taking over as the Alpha again. Haha. Just kidding. Love, your big brother Zeke.
I stare at the message, blinking in disbelief. The thought of marrying Zeke has never crossed my mind. I found him too intimidating when I met him—too much of an Alpha male for me. Besides, I had a soft spot for Alex from the moment I saw him, even though I didn’t know him that well. But now that Alex is the most powerful Lycan in existence, I’m a little bit frightened. Not going to lie.
Though, I bet Alex can’t have changed that much personality-wise, right? He was really sweet when I met him almost five years ago, and he probably used his charisma to get where he is today. I have nothing to worry about.
I type a quick response to Zeke.
Me: Thanks for letting me know, but I’m perfectly happy with my choice. I’m excited to marry Alex and become the Luna of the Lycanrock pack.
The driver glances at me, “Everything alright, Luna Amber?”
I look up from my phone and nod, “Yeah, everything is fine. Just a message from a friend.”
He nods and goes back to focusing on the road. I turn back to my phone and continue scrolling through social media, trying to distract myself from my nerves.
As we get closer to the Lycanrock pack territory, my heart pounds even faster. I can feel the power radiating from this place, and it sends shivers down my spine. This is going to be my new home, and I am filled with both excitement and fear at what lies ahead.
Will Alex accept me with open arms? What does he even look like nowadays? Still feminine and beautiful? I sure hope so. I loved how long his eyelashes were in the past.
AmberAs the car turns onto a dirt road leading to the Lycanrock pack’s mansion, my eyes widen in awe. The house is familiar, but it’s been almost five years since I last was here and a lot has changed. The garden is more beautiful, with plenty of new fruit trees and flowers, and the house has been repainted in a warm cream color that makes it look very inviting. Yet, for some reason, my heart thunders inside my chest. This is it. The moment I’ve been waiting for. The moment when life as I know it ends and a new chapter in my life shall begin. The car comes to a stop, and the driver steps out to open my door. I take his hand, and he helps me out of the car. My knees shake as I stand up straight, trying to calm my nerves.Suddenly, the front door of the mansion opens, and a tall figure appears on the threshold. My heart races as I recognize Zeke and Sebastian. They are as tall and intimidating as ever, grinning at me with their hair neatly combed back and their muscular arms stretchin
AlexToday is a shit day, and I’m close to punching the tiled wall as I stand under the water stream inside the bathroom. I’m angry at life and also angry at myself for feeling this way. I’m beyond pissed off when I should be happy. Amber, my future wife, and mate, is finally here at my estate, and she is just as cute and lovely as before...perhaps a tad bit smaller than my memories allow me to remember? I can’t recall her being quite as delicate as she is now, even though I suppose she can’t have shrunk. Though, it’s not like I mind her size. What I do mind, however, is the fact that she immediately started undressing after I jokingly asked her to. Like, what the actual flipping fuck?! Would she start undressing that easily to any random man that asked her to? Groaning to myself, I turn off the water and head into my bedroom, freezing when I see my older brother Zeke lounging in my bed with a towel wrapped around his head.“What the fuck are you doing here?!”“Hmm, what am I doing
AmberI shriek in surprise when the door to my room swings open behind me. I turn around in shock, staring at Alex, who stands there like a statue. His mouth is agape, and although I’m naked, all I can focus on is his gaze as it travels along my body. I can’t even hide from his eyes. The nearest towel is across the room on my bed, and my skin prickles with anticipation when he doesn’t turn away. “W-what are you staring at?!” I try to yell, but it comes out as a pathetic cry.Alex quickly raises his hands in surrender. “Whoa! Don’t worry, I’m not missing anything spectacular here. You don’t even have any curves!”My face reddens, and I feel a wave of anger course through me. How dare he make such crude remarks about my body! I might not be the curviest model out there, but I’ve spent a lot of work keeping myself thin! But of course, I don’t dare to say that to Alex. I’m too shy around him, and my heart races as Alex steps closer to me and begins to laugh.“Hey,” he says between chuckl
AmberI’ve spent more than an hour talking to Alex. We are sitting on my bed while munching on cookies that his butler delivered us. It was the same one that drove me here. His name is Smede, and I like him, even if he is a scary Lycan. Alex, on the other hand...well...I glance at Alex when he stuffs his mouth full of cookies before swallowing. He doesn’t even chew before he burps and looks at me with a raised eyebrow. “I’m not going to apologize for my bad manners. This is my home.”My cheeks turn molten hot. His stomach is jutting out a little from eating so many cookies, but it’s still pretty obvious he has a six-pack underneath his clothes. “Umm...I-I wasn’t expecting you to do that...” I mumble. Alex grins mischievously, “Well, you better get used to me having no manners because that’s just how I roll,” he says while patting his stomach. “This is also a house where only men live, so eh...things might smell like cheeseballs.”I cringe at his words and nod awkwardly. I’m not sure
AlexI drag my tired ass up the stairs after a grueling workout in the basement. I expect to be alone on my eighteenth birthday, but to my surprise, Amber waits for me in the kitchen. Amber has been avoiding me like the plague for the past week, but today she is decorating my cake, her face unreadable as she avoids meeting my gaze. The tension between us is palpable. Now that I’m finally legal, our wedding can take place...if Amber still wants me, that is. She was acting really strange when we fell asleep in the same bed. The little thing touched my abs and then ran away as if my skin had burnt her. Doesn’t she like my muscles?I meet her gaze, hoping that some miracle will happen, and we discover we are fated mates, but nothing happens. Fuck. That means Amber’s mate is still out there. Like, I can claim her as mine since I’m a Lycan, but until then, there is an ACTUAL guy waiting for her out there. “Umm...” Amber’s frightened eyes meet mine. She seems uncomfortable with having me s
AmberIt feels odd walking into Magic Academy. This is where I will finish my degree and where I will take additional courses because, let’s face it: I rather not spend too much time at home. I intend on avoiding Alex Lycania like the goddamn plague because that guy has the ability to hurt me by just opening his stupid mouth....it just sucks that Alex seems to be a superstar on campus. There is a whole wall committed to him. He is apparently the team captain of the Lycanball team, The Hellwolves—a real original name right there for a sports team that is entirely made up of Lycans. I rolled my eyes so far into my head the first time I heard it that I, for one second, feared I would end up blind. Sighing to myself, I reach down into my backpack to pick up my laptop. I’m hanging out on the bleachers of the Lycanball stadium. Alex is running on the field below, and while I know I shouldn’t be watching him, I’m very attracted to his muscles and shirtless torso. Not coming here to study w
AlexI hate parties. In my opinion, they are a huge waste of time. I’m the Lycan King and the Alpha of my pack—I should be helping my Beta, Zeke, do paperwork at home. Or train with my warrior Lycans with my Gamma, Sebastian. Even the gym would be time more well-spent.The only thing besides Alpha work I have time for is Lycan ball since I plan for that sport to turn into a career. It also helps me keep muscle mass. But this? This is just misery!I sigh to myself and run my hand through my wet hair. I barely had time to shower after practice since Amber’s new friend, Emma, was stressing so much. She kept telling Amber that we needed to go if we didn’t want to stand in a party queue for free beer, and so here I am, sitting on a chair at a freaking frat party. Could I get any more miserable?“Are you having fun?”I look up at Amber. She is almost as tall as me sitting when she is standing. Utterly adorable. But what is less cute is that she is holding a red plastic cup filled with who-k
Amber“We are sooooo lost, Alex...” I hiccup and smile at the large and beautiful Lycan walking beside me through this very creepy labyrinth. He scowls down at me with wrinkles forming on his nose.“We are not lost.”Laughter bubbles up in my throat. “We are.”“No, we are not.”I just giggle and lift my chin, keeping my eyes on Alex’s face. He is so damn pretty...would he mind if I just lifted up his T-shirt and licked his abs for one hot minute?“What?” Alex barks when I beam up at him. “Why are you looking at me like that?”“Because you’re so pretty,” I say in a baby voice that I hope he finds cute. I want Alex to like me.But much to my disappointment, he rolls his eyes at me and mutters, “You’re so drunk...”“Maybe…”Despite Alex’s attitude, I don’t stop smiling as I follow him. He is walking really, really fast, though. I have to take two steps at a time to keep up with him, but I’m struggling right now and almost fall head-first over a root that sticks up from the ground.
