CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHT

Kol’s POV

Charlie had stood in the room with tears in her eyes just after her operation. Mr Rivers had left almost immediately after he donated the blood, barely sparing her bed a glance or two. I didn’t know whether to be angry or sad. The doctors had done the best they could.

“The bullet barely missed her heart, severe trauma to the head, a couple of cracked ribs and pierced lungs. We’ve done all we can. It’d be a miracle if she wakes up at all. I wouldn’t want you to get your hopes up.” The doctor had patted down my shoulder, gave a little squeeze, feeling sorry for me and left me to stew in the atmosphere of trepidation and anxiety.

We’d called in the best doctors, including my personal doctor who’d checked up on Tori before.

Josh had gone back to the office so everything wouldn’t fall apart, because left to me, nothing else mattered. The world could burn for all I cared.

“We’ll keep watching her for changes. Go home, get some sleep. It’s been four days Mr Drey.”
