Burning Resentment

"You want that thug as your personal guard?" his tone was cold and disapproving. The man looked on the verge of bursting into flames.

"I am surrounded by thugs," she pointed out, fixing him with a sharp glare. His eyes narrowed into a slit, his lips tightened into a thin line. She perhaps enjoys riling him up.

"You know what I mean. He is not to be trusted. I will never allow this," he refused outrightly. Antonious wasn't to be trusted.

"First, I am not asking for your permission. I am telling you," she started, her shoulders squared and chin high.

"Either Antonious will be my guard or I'll have no guard. Secondly, who is here to be trusted?" she folded her hand and asked, insinuation evident in her tone.

"I'll have a word with Clovis. He will guard you. I trust him," Ryker responded, dismissing her demand. Clovis was his most trustworthy man. He initially thought of putting Adgar on the job but he couldn't. It had a lot to do with Adgar's earlier attraction to Rosalie. Even thou
