The next morning, I put on shorts, a tee shirt and Nike sneakers. I quickly made my self some breakfast and drove to the examination hall.
I look at my watch. I'm just on time, and I quickly make my way to the hall, and find my seat. The professor hands out the exam papers. I roll my hand around, to prepare it for the scribbling that I'm about to do.
"Alright everyone, you have 4 hours. You may hand in your paper as soon as you are done. Good luck." The professor whom I had come to know very well says. I breathe in and start my paper.
It goes well. I know most of my work, and the question are nicely put. Eventually, after three hours of writing straight, and ten minutes of checking, I'm done. I'm finished.
I smile widely and hand in the paper to the examiner. I skip excitedly outside.
I call up my parents to meet with them at a nice little coffee shop.&nbs
My phone rings. It's an unknown caller. I pick it up."Hello. It's Gale speaking." I say."Gale Armstrong?" The voice asks."Yes.""I am very sorry for your loss ma'am. I don't know if you have heard, but your sister and brother in law were in an accident. They both died on impact." The phone drops out my hand.No. No. They can't be serious. They can't be serious. No. No."Miss Armstrong, are you still there?" The phone says on the floor. I feel a large lump form in my throat as I sink to the floor."Y- Yes." I squeak. Shock, disbelief and utter despair run across me. No. No. No. No. I curl into myself, leaving the phone on the floor."You are the godmother of Theo Marshall are you not?""I - I am." I manage to make out, even though
"Aunty Gale!" He shouts and rushes over to me. I pick him up and hold him close. A tear runs down my check. He looks at me. "Why are you sad Aunty Gale?""Um .. I need to go and talk to the man inside the office. Will you stay outside and be a good boy?" He nods eagerly. I walk into the office."Ah, you must be Miss Armstrong." I nod, "so down to business. I know that you must be in shock, and that it's a lot to take in. I assume that you probably have no idea what to do, which why I am here to help." I nod. Shock preventing me from doing or thinking anything."Theo passes into your care. A social worker will be there to help you, and make sure that you are suitable to take care of him. Which brings us to the second thing. The will of your sister and brother in law. The house falls to Thony, your brother, who will inherit it because he is living in a rented apartment. However, Theo's furniture falls to
"Aren't they going to fetch me Aunty Gale?" He asks. I shake my head."No honey. They have gone to live with God. They can't leave heaven. So that means that you have to stay with me. They can't come back, but they love you very much, and that love will always be in your heart forever. They will always be alive in your heart and your mind." I hope he understands."Oh." His face drops. "So will I ever see mommy and daddy again?" I shake my head. A tear drops down his cheek, and I pull him close, as sobs rack both our bodies, and I hold him tightly as we cry together. I have him. That's what matters."I'm sorry baby. I'm so sorry." He says, and sobs into my shirt, making it all wet. I don't care though. I hold him close, even though I meant to be comforting him."So does that mean that now, you are my mommy?" He asks, through his tear face and I suck in a breath.
The social worker drives Theo to my home, as I had to take the motorbike. She understands that I will get a car, which I will now have to drive Theo around in.I let her inside the house."So, as you well know, I don't have any furniture for Theo's room, but I have already made arrangements to get it today. Let me show you where his room will be." I lead her to the guest room. She nods in approval."You have more than enough to keep Theo happy and comfortable. You handled telling him the terrible news very well. I know how hard this must be for you, but you will both be alright. So I'm sure you will get the hang of things, it will take time to figure out what to do, but if you need any help at all, please call me. You are now Theo's legal guardian." Rackel shakes my hand. I nod.A hoot sounds from outside."That's Theo's furnitures, as well as the ca
“Hello, my darling.” She says softly. I try to smile, but it doesn’t help.I walk up to my parents and my brother, and we join in one big hug, and as if it was a mutual cry, we sob together, and sink to the floor slowly. We stay like that for a few minutes until Theo interrupts.“Guess what Granny and Papa!” He says excitedly, “I get to stay with Aunty Gale now!”My parents look at me heartbroken and at the statement, my mother wails in agony. I try to give Theo a smile and pick him up.“Alright. Let’s get you home young man. It’s really late.” I hug my parents goodbye.“Drive safely Gale.” They state, looking at me with tears in their eyes. I just nod. I drive Theo home and lead him upstairs."Here is your room Theo." I show him his room, I take him by the mad and let h
I wake up, still holding a little person in my arms. He stirs softly.“Hey Theo.” I smile and kiss his forehead.“Hello Aunty Gale.” He smiles and hus me tightly.“Shall we go and eat breakfast?” I ask. It’s Thursday morning. The funeral is tomorrow. Theo nods. I take his hand. We head downstairs.“Would you like some a peanut butter and jelly toasted sandwich?” He nods eagerly.I make it for him. He sits on one of the three barstools and spins around on it. I laugh at his innocent antics. He is like the little light I have at the end of the tunnel. I cried myself to sleep last night. T
“How about we go do something shopping today?” I ask. Theo groans.“Do we have to?” I nod.“There is nothing in the fridge, we will starve if we don’t go. It might be fun.” I convince. He nods.“Come. Let’s go get dressed.” I smile. I pick him up on a piggy back.I hand him what he must wear. It’s a little striped blue and white tee shirt, with dark blue pants and cute little spiderman flip flops. He loves that movie.I quickly get change into my own clothes, shorts and a tee shirt, along with flip flops of my own. I make sure that Theo has brushed his hair and his teeth. He has a tiny little toothbrush. My sister has already taught him how to brush his teeth. I grab my iPad.“I have a deal for you.” I say in the car, as we drive to the nearest grocery store.&l
The funeral service was beautiful. It was sad at the same time. The attributes to my sister and her husband were beautiful. I gave a speech, and brought Theo up with me. It's Monday today. That means I have to go to work. I drive Theo to his kindergarten. I walk out with him, hand in hand. A lady comes to greet me. "Hello. You must me Miss Armstrong. Theo's godmother." I nod and smile. "Hey Theo, why don't you go play?" She says and he laughs, joining his little friends. "So," She smiles and rubs my back. "I know this journey is going to be long and hard. I'm here to help you. You haven't done this before. I have. Three times. My name is Kyla. I'm here to help you through this. Alright?" I nod slowly. "Thank you. That means a lot." I smile sadly. "Sure." She rubs my back. "It ends at 12. See you by at I'm then." I nod and head back to the car. It smells like her. It smells like Roses, her favorite fl
