Taylor's gaze dropped to the table, his fingers tapping nervously. "I get it, D'Andre. I mean, I don't like it, but I get it. We've messed up big time."

D'Andre sighed, a mixture of regret and relief in his voice. "Yeah, we have. And as much as I value what we used to have, I think it's time we take a step back. For Maiari's sake, for our own sakes."

Taylor's eyes lifted, his gaze sincere. "You really care about her, don't you?"

D'Andre's nod was firm. "Yeah, I do. And I want to do right by her. That means putting an end to anything that might jeopardize what she and I have."

Taylor's lips curved into a rueful smile. "You know, D'Andre, you've changed a lot since that summer."

D'Andre chuckled softly. "Yeah, I have. But I think it's been for the better. I've learned a lot about myself, about the people I care about."

Taylor's smile softened. "Well, I hope you find the happiness you deserve, man. And I'll do my best to stay out of the way."
