EMILY KING.
It was the second evening, and my husband wasn’t back yet. I still had breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant like I did the first day. Except that I ate alone, which I had to admit was more fun.
I had also become very familiar with my phone. It was my first iPhone, and I didn’t know much about how it worked but I had been up all night and unable to sleep so I toured it. It turned out to be very much easier than I expected. I discovered shopping apps too. All you needed was a credit card. Then I found out that I had a credit card too.
It dawned on me that I was truly Emily King now. The name was inscribed in gold on the card. The first thing I ordered were air pods and they were delivered immediately. It had been in the middle of the night, but I had expected it to come the next day or even take days. I couldn’t tell if it was because I was Mrs. King or if this was just a norm.
All my subscriptions had been activated and I had unlimited access to anything and everything. At first, I surfed the net and read almost every article on my wedding. Some people loved my dress, everyone loved my air. There was not a single hate comment that I thought of as suspicious, everyone in the world cannot like you.
It was either Alexandro King hated hate comments and got rid of them, or he must have done something to filter them away, either way. He was totally in control.
Good riddance.
Unlike the other day, the chef kept me company and made me laugh as I ate. I ate something much simpler, and I didn’t have to go for breakfast in heels. Some people had taken unaware pictures of me and thankfully I looked good in them all.
One of the pictures was captioned, “Emily King is Human.” I didn’t know if that was a compliment or not until I asked Chloe. She came in late, as expected. The hangover wasn’t child’s play. I had only three glasses before the night was over and surprisingly, I didn’t get drunk. I decided my alertness all through the night and inability to sleep was a side effect.
Looks like expensive things liked me after all.
I walked around, smiled with people, made no friends but took some pictures with strangers. Baxter wasn’t looking like he did last night today. When I asked if he had a hangover, he ignored me and the look on his face told me we were back to being professional.
Chloe didn’t ignore me, but she did give me a speech about how last night shouldn’t happen again.
I decided to have a little bit of fun on my own too. So I took a picture of myself, on the bed, I was fully dressed to my shoes and all, but I sat at the edge of the bed, letting my hair fall but all over one shoulder, behind the other shoulder, was the rest of the bed, widely displayed.
The caption: #lonely. Missing my King.
It had a hundred comments in just a few minutes and over a thousand likes. Looks like people were watching me after all. Both men and women. There were millions of comments. Some sweet, some naughty. Someone commented: Of what use is a king-sized bed when there is no king on it?
Some people asked where I’ve been all this while. Again, everyone thought I was beautiful. I was starting to feel beautiful.
One thing I was scared about on social media was someone recognizing me. But no did, at least not yet.
After I got bored with my phone, I dropped it and attempted to watch TV. It wasn’t fun. Everything there was showing was a series, a series of which I didn’t witness their beginning, so I wasn’t inclined to watch. If I was going to watch a movie, I’d love to start from the beginning and not the middle.
It was barely evening when Baxter ran in and gave an announcement that got me a bit scared. Baxter always made sure to call to tell me that he was at the door before opening it. Standing up to see who it was seemed a bit unnecessary, but Baxter always made sure to send a text or call. Just to make sure he didn’t meet in any improper position. I also stopped locking the door behind me. I didn’t think anything bad was going to happen.
“Did you know there will be a party tonight?” He asked, urgency evident in his voice.
“Yeah. Alexandro King mentioned it yesterday. But I don’t have to go since he’s not here, right?” I asked, stuffing popcorn into my mouth. I discovered the fridge after an hour of boredom. There was any and every snack in it.
“He’s ‘husband or Alexandro’ to you, Mrs. King.” Chloe corrected with a snap. I rolled my eyes in response.
“You have to attend,” Baxter replied with no explanation.
“I can’t reach Alexandro. How would I attend a party filled with strangers I don’t know.” I whined. Baxter gave Chloe a look that meant ‘You take it from here. I’ve done my part.”
Chloe stood up on cue and came to stand in front of me, she straightened the collar of my dress. “You belong to this world now; you are Emily King. Your presence holds the same effect as Alexandro King’s. Moreover, it would be extremely rude to ignore and disregard a party that is holding right under your nose. Have you tried reaching your husband?”
I sneered at her last question, “Nope. If he has something to tell me, he’ll call. The party? Get me a befitting dress and I’ll show up. Please, I’d like something simple. I also have the perfect set of jewelry.” I said boldly like I had the confidence to show up all-powerful. I would act it till I became it.
“Good!” Chloe’s voice rang with approval. “You have an hour to rest, I’ll call your makeup artist.”
“Why do I need makeup?” I asked. I planned to show up and disappear, just so no one could criticize me for not coming. “It’s barely six pm. Why do I have to start preparing? The party is at least four hours away.” I complained.
“You’ll get used to it.” That was all Chloe said before typing orders on her phone. Baxter had gone back to wherever he was before. In an hour, the room was flooded again. Three ladies came. One helped me with my makeup, my hair was re-curled and styled while my nails were trimmed and polished.
I loved the nails; I thought I looked good with the curled, but it felt a bit earlier and itchy.
Once again I wore a black dress. This one wasn’t huggy, it was short and puffy. I felt like an underworld Barbie.
Chloe couldn’t follow me but when the clock tricked eleven, I was in front of the hall, ready to act my strongest and put my fears behind me. A part of me hoped Alexandro King was behind the door. The other part of me that had been freaking out told me to turn and run.
Too late.
The door pushed open.
I looked in and saw a world of chaos.
What could be behind the door? If you're enjoying this book, don't forget to like and comment. A vote would be nice but recommending to your friends would be awesome. xxxx
It was a chaos. The room was filled with people but choked with dresses. Everyone was bumping into each other. It took me a moment to realize what was going on. At the last party, I had worn my wedding dress, and I had stolen the moment. They had to get out of the way for me and many of them didn’t like it. This was my first lesson on how women in the outfit hated anything overshadowing them. I saw how they put on way too much makeup and spent unnecessary money. While I went through social media, I came to see that these men do not hide their mistresses. And this party wasn’t a strict one like the last one that had been trimmed down because only those invited to the wedding could attend. This party was a lot more crowded and almost every lady was wearing a ball gown of different colors. It was like a color duel. It seemed like everyone secretly wanted to steal the show and now they have succeeded in stealing the floor. Because I had no idea of how to get inside. Where were they men
There had been a time when I didn’t have to bother about what I’d be having for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.I was in high school and the only expectations my dad had from me were the words he said to me every morning before placing a kiss on my mom's lips and waving us away as my mom would drive me to school. “Be sure to have good grades.”He never asked for my report card after school so I might not even count that as an expectation. Yet I held on to it tightly and did have good grades. My mom was a different person entirely. All I got was “Have fun today!!!” Whenever she dropped me off at school. Thankfully, she never forgot to ask if I did have fun at dinner while we ate.Sometimes during my teenage years, I began to find my mom and dad kind of love and intimacy disgusting. How they were always kissing at dinner, or in the kitchen, or anywhere else.I made sure to stay out of their way and as I was the only child, I was quite lonely. Then I met this girl at school. She had a twin
The cards were spread before us. The huge man that had grabbed the boys did the shuffle. The boss man kept his eyes on mine. “Do you know what happens if I win?” He asked, drawing my attention away from the amazing skill display of cards the huge guy was doing. The sight was a bit intimidating. All I knew were the card arrangement and little tricks on how to win. The way he shuffled the cards got me scared. There were lots of things I didn’t know how to do. I was almost sure that I’d lose. “I don’t know what happens if you win, but if I win, my friends and I are walking out of here and we won’t be owing you a dime,” I said the words with bravery that was faked. My insides were quivering in fear, but I dared not show it. My dad had said cards to sense fear and anxiety, he that played with shaking fingers will never win. I took a deep breath in an attempt to banish my fear. All the men at the table burst into laughter at my words. The sound echoes around the room, making everyone t
I only wanted to see if I had lost or not. He seemed so confident. We both knew he had tried to use his looks to distract me. When he refused to lay his card, I dropped mine. I wanted this to be over. “A queen of spades.” He read my card aloud. Then he dropped his. It was a king—a king of spades. The king was greater than the queen. I had lost. “Don’t give me that look. A king is as important as his queen.” He smiled, playing with the cards. He placed them side by side and turned them to face me. “What do you think?” He taunted. I wished I could look into someone else’s eyes, but everyone seemed so far away. When I looked up, I noticed the boys were gone but Darcy sat where she had been sitting. At the same time, the door opened, and her brother busted in, fury written all over his face. He went straight to his sister and tried to pull her away, but the huge guys blocked him. I couldn’t hear the words they said but he was mad that they wouldn’t let go of his sister. Hell, he w
EMILY KINGPRESENTLYI smiled at the memories, watching spread the cards again over the table. I had no plans to lose but I confirmed my credit card in my purse before the game even started. Everyone looked at me with watchful eyes as I was asked to shuffle.I picked it up and displayed the only shuffle trick I knew. After my mom died, only cards kept him sane. We played for hours. We were best friends in the game but whenever I got my hopes up and thought he was finally feeling better, he drew back into his shell as soon as the cards were away from his hands.I could play cards a lot better now, but I was no closer to my dad.I called myself back to the game as I laid the cards I had shuffled. I lifted my head to see keen eyes watching me.“Where did you learn to play cards? I heard from behind me. “Did Alexandro teach you?” it was Nina. I might have lied and agreed if it was someone else, but I liked Nina enough to be honest with her.“No, I learned this before I met Alexandro. My f
I got home tired and had a bit of a headache. I was starting to refer to this beautiful suite as home, I would miss it when I got home. Funny enough, as soon as I got in, I couldn’t sleep so I picked up my phone. I wasn’t drunk but maybe I wasn’t very conscious of my actions or the alcohol I had drunk earlier made me brave. I went to my contact list and dialed Alexandro King. “Hello, Cheater.” I greeted as soon as it beeped to signify, he had picked. And that was the last thing I remembered. ALEXANDRO KING She had to be drunk. How could she not be? I swerved as I noticed my favorite parking slot was free. A valet had offered to help me park, but it was my favorite car, and I wasn’t in a hurry. I had not intended to come back to the hotel till the end of the week but all I could think of was what mess Emily would put herself in. Then Baxter reported to me that she had attended last night’s party. I had not expected her to attend in my absence and was a bit worried, but when I hea
Her bra and panties lay abandoned on the floor, and she was spread on the bed. In only one piece of clothing. It was my shirt, but now it was no longer just on her hip. She is wearing it. Her head was resting on a pillow which her both hands were tucked under. On the table was an opened wine and a glass cup. There was still wine in it but she hadn’t drank much of it. I moved towards her and sniffed in her smell. There was a little alcohol on her, but it didn’t seem like she had drunk much, I took another sniff but all that invaded my nose was the vanilla smell of her hair. I couldn’t resist the urge to touch them. On my touch, she moved, curling herself before stretching again. Revealing the rear of her and making me wish I had stayed away. I couldn’t resist touching those legs. I laid a hand on her knee and heard her give a deep sigh. I let a little chuckle escape my lip, she wouldn’t hear it. I loved how sensitive she was. My hands moved down her legs, loving how smooth they w
Emily King No, no, no, no. This did not just happen. But it did. If the pleasure running in my veins wasn’t enough proof, the clenching of my insides for more should sprinkle a cold bucket of reality on my face. If that didn’t work, all I had to do was open my eyes to see the man standing in between my legs. “Open your eyes, Emily.” He called. His voice was gentle, was patient, like that of a lover. He was not my lover. Her was Alisha’s. “Let go of me. This didn’t happen.” I muttered the first words to him then the second to myself. “No, no, Emily, don’t do that, except you want a reminder.” He spoke, and I could hear the chuckle in his voice. It sounded cold and triumphant, like that of a devil when he knew he had won. His hands tightened over my hip and I felt the tip of his nose gently nudging the side of my core. My whole body swelled in response to his touch, betraying me. I tried to buck off him but instead, I just brought myself more into his face so I strayed still, emb
