Mrs. Peters didn't find it funny at all but she assumed her son must be playing some kind of game. He appeared to be in a good mood but still, he shouldn't joke with something so weighty like this.
“Alex, what sort of joke is this?” She asked, hoping that Alex would confess that it was a joke too.
“Joke? I'm playing no jokes, Mum. Didn't everyone want me to get married? This is my wife-to-be, only a few preparations left.”
Clara, who had been listening to all that was happening, quickly adjusted her position and sat upright. Mrs. Peters had been condescendingly looking at her all through the discussion, though she hadn't said anything to her yet.
To Mrs. Peters, Clara was too small to have that conversation with, she rather have it with her son.
“I know you are cracking one of your jokes again. I'm here for a reason.”
Alex Peters didn't react in the manner that his mum predicted. His gestures just showed that he was very serious about what he said.
“Mum, why should I be joking? Everyone wants me to get married and she's right here.” Alex spoke confidently, turning his gaze to Clara in a way to make her relaxed.
“That will never happen! Speaking of the reason I am here, I found a lady for you. Since it was so difficult for you to pick a noble lady since that lady left you, I found one.” Mrs. Peters continued, her tone was serious this time, more like she yelled but that didn't shake Alex.
“Her name is Annie and she has been out of the States for five years. I privately looked into her background and she comes from a noble family, she hasn't been in any scandals, and guess what? She agreed to return just to meet with you.” Mrs. Peter explained. Her tone wasn't as serious as it was before.
It was more like she wanted to convince Alex but the only reason Alex still stood was because he didn't want to disrespect his mother.
“Mother, you mentioned it is difficult to find one and who is the lady next to me then?”
“You little thing! What are you doing here while I'm trying to have a discussion with my son? get out of here?”
Clara bowed her head, she wasn't used to the rich people’s lifestyle, and truth be told, Mrs. Peter's presence frightened her a lot.
How was she going to tell her that she wasn't even interested in this whole thing and that Alex dragged her to this place?
She decided to keep quiet, it wasn't in her place to relay that kind of information and since she didn't plan on having anything to do with this family, it would be good if she remained silent, Mrs. Peters might label her a liar also.
Clara bowed her head while moving toward the door but Alex held her wrist again. “Don’t move an inch, I brought you here so don't move an inch.”
Clara would have left if Alex said just that, but because he was holding her, she couldn't leave. She couldn't look up either.
“Mum, I appreciate your effort in helping me to look for a wife. However, it is useless since I have one now.” Alex sounded off again.
Mrs. Peters raised her brows this time in shock, she clenched her fist like she was going to hit someone but managed to control herself. Then suddenly her phone rang,
“Excuse me,” she murmured to Alex and put the phone close to her ears.
“Mum, Did you see it on the news? Is the flight delayed?” The female voice at the end asked but Mrs. Peters dismissed her, promising to call back.
“Did you see that Alex? Annie was making arrangements already? You Wouldn't have her embarrassed this way. She is a public figure and in one way or the other, if the information leaks, we would be in trouble.”
“I guess you are the only one in trouble, why not stay with her since you care so much,” Alex replied and from his mum's reaction he regretted being too harsh, but nonetheless, she caused it.
The drama wasn't ending anytime soon so Alex held Clara and they headed towards the door. Though it was his house, he wouldn't watch his mum keep making Clara uncomfortable. They would rather leave the house until she was gone.
“You dare not walk out on me, come back here!” Mrs. Peters yelled but the sight of Alex and the girl had faded away.
Mrs. Peter swore that not when she is alive will she allow her son to marry that good-for-nothing lady. And whatever the lady had done to him will clear off very soon. At least, she knows her son too well.
Alex had held Clara till they were out of the house. Clara instantly yanked her hand away. “I guess you are taking me home now?” she inquired of him.
Alex reached out for her wrist again and held her till they got to the car. He just ordered his driver to drive them somewhere but Clara seemed not to be familiar with the place.
“You still haven't told me where we are going this time.”
Alex didn't want to have her worry so he just gave her a reply. “Clara, I'm sorry for what my mum did back there. Don't pay attention to her words, she's like that sometimes but I will handle it.”
Clara looked at Alex in a supposedly awkward manner. That wasn't the answer to the question she had just asked him. Alex understood that gaze so he began again.
“I only figured out how uncomfortable you were in there and since she wasn't planning to leave, I decided we would go strolling for a while. We don't really need distraction planning this marriage.”
Clara smirked for a reason best known to her. She had not expected that reply, rather had she digested it too.
“What?” Alex called into question authoritatively as though Clara didn't have a say.
“I’m sorry Mr. Alex, but I'm not interested in being your wife.” Clara replied.
Yet, why does she feel bad telling him that? He was just a stranger she had just met. Why does she feel like she was doing something wrong?
Alex Peters ignored what Clara had just told him. The driver had matched the break forcefully because of Clara’s reply to Alex, but he was quick to apologize to his boss. Clara felt a little regret uttering the last statement. It was truly how she felt but she didn't know why the man kept bothering her. They already made a mistake by having a one-night stand and he should just get over it. They arrived at a flower garden and stopped the car. Alex and Clara came down having a nice view of the place as they walked like every other person there. Clara followed Alex reluctantly and they hadn't said a word to each other. But Alex was walking side by side with her like they were couples. Suddenly, Alex received a phone call. It seemed urgent and he urged Clara to wait while he quickly addressed the matter. “I will have the driver drive me to the office for some clarification. Please, don't go anywhere, I will be back in twenty minutes.” he urged her and before Clara could say anything,
At the airport, a young beautiful lady was seen standing. She was dressed in a jumpsuit and a red heart with sunglasses. She looked more like a model and she spoke with an accent. “Mum, is he not going to be the one to pick me? I saw the driver you sent here.” Mrs. Peters at the other end tried to explain to Annie Cooper that Alex was busy at the office. “You don’t have to worry about that, Alex as the CEO is quite busy but he’s got more surprises for you.” “OK, Mum. Got it.” Annie replied and hung up. She pouted her lips, flung her hair, and matched to the spot where the driver was waiting for her. Mrs. Peters had just lied to Annie Cooper. Even though Alex didn’t plan anything, she knew that with time, she would be able to convince him and until then, Annie would be staying in the five-star hotel. Alex gazed at Clara for a while, she was still asleep. Due to their exhaustion the previous day, they weren’t able to talk about the condition and now he was off to work. “Wooo,” Cla
Clara was startled by the scream of Mrs. Peters. She didn't expect her and she also didn't know when they came in. “Good morning Ma.” She greeted politely to show some respect but the old lady was going to find fault. “What did you just do? Greet me? Do you think that will change the fact that my son brought a prostitute to his home?” Clara tucked her lips to the insults Mrs. Peters laid on her. She didn't dare to open her mouth and speak while the Lady still spoke. Annie Cooper rushed to where Mrs. Peters was standing. She had been looking at the glass design on the wall but because of the way Mrs. Peters spoke, she wanted to know what was happening. She had just finished examining Clara and turned to Mrs. Peters and asked her. “Mum, who is she? I was thinking the servants should have a room close to the kitchen or outside.” “Mum, is she the head of the maids? She must be really annoying and that is why you are yelling at her.” “Did Mr. Alex pick her up from the streets? I hear
Alex immediately came down from the car and went after Clara. He held her wrist the way he normally does but she pulled it away instantly.“What’s the problem? See I'm home, I told I was going to work only half of the day and I'm back. We could talk about what you always wanted us to.”Clara acted so reluctantly. They were still under the rain and because of her, Alex was now drenched.“Let’s get into the car.” Alex said again and tried to hold her but Clara pulled her hand yet again. This lady is just so stubborn, even if she's mad can't we just get out of the rain. Alex said inwardly, he already shivered a bit because of the cold.“Mr. Alex, I don't think this marriage thing is possible. Your wife-to-be is already inside, she’s pretty and she has an accent too.” Clara clarified to him, she had wanted to add that she has a bad character but that wasn't in her place to say. It is left for Alex to figure that out.But a part of her was waiting for Alex to tell her all those things didn'
Annie couldn’t stand the insult she had just received so she ordered a cabbie and left. All this while, she had been trying Mrs. Peters's number but it wasn’t going through.Shortly after Annie left, Alex received a call. You could tell that the call was from his mother. After a few banter words with the person at the end of the call, he returned to Clara.“Are you okay?” Clara asked, noticing the worry on his face but Alex assured her that he was good.“I would love you to accompany me to a family dinner.” He uttered.Clara gave him a dismissive look immediately. Why would he ask her to accompany him to a family dinner? Family that doesn’t like her. Does he have a death wish for her?“See Clara, I just want to make myself straightforward with them so they can leave us alone. You asked if I was okay, I just finished talking with Mum. She wants everyone to have dinner at the family house tomorrow and I’m taking you with me.”“Are you sure about this Mr. Alex? Don’t you think that will g
Clara, Selene, and Elizabeth turned to the direction the voice came from, to their surprise, it was Alex walking towards them.Clara never thought that Alex could come looking for her. It was probably a coincidence, he was just passing by.Same with Selene and Elizabeth. “Mum, Did Young Master Alex come looking for her?” Selene asked with a wrinkled face. Almost spoke with her teeth so Alex wouldn't hear her.“No way, there was no way he came looking for this bitch.” Elizabeth replied to her daughter the same she asked.Alex walked closer, exhibiting the same aura that he carried wherever he went. Clara could feel it, from his eyes, it wasn't a coincidence, he really came looking for her. When he got close to her, he put a jacket on her shoulders. “ You might catch a cold”Clara was speechless. She did not know how to react, especially in front of her step-mum and step-sister. Alex saw the look on her face and noticed that something must have been wrong before he came.Alex then turned
Clara circled her eyes to make sure that those people were not carried away by what Annie had just told them, but no, she was right, they were! Who wouldn’t get carried away when Annie spoke with an accent and when she looked like a model or a celebrity? “Not at all” Clara let out as they came forward to her. “We need to search you. This lady here clearly said you are a thief and even though we won’t be selling to you anymore, we are afraid you must have stolen something from here.” The store attendant explained. Just right away, the manager who had been indoors the whole time came out. “What’s happening here?” She asked. She looked at Annie Cooper and Clara Roberts while waiting for an answer and of course, she already knew who was at fault and who was a high-class citizen. “Madam, what is the problem?” The manager finally directed the question at Clara. Clara couldn’t believe that there were many here but she was the one chosen to answer the question. Obviously, she has been
Clara found it hard to let go of him. His body offered her warmth and comfort. But she had to, she was beginning to fall in love but was so scared as she didn't even know him so well. Alex and Clara left the police station to the store where Clara went to purchase the jewelry. Clara was mute and just kept looking at Alex. “Do I look scary?” Alex asked her, does Clara think he's blind and can't see her? “Not that,” Clara replied, chuckling. “Thank you for always saving me. Should I start calling you my Saviour?” she asked him, still chuckling. Alex immediately waved off that. “No no no. Don't call me that. You can call me other sweet and romantic names like ....” “Like?” Alex folded his lips and cleared his throat. “Ah. Yo..u sh..ould know what I mean.” he stuttered. “I really don't. What should I call you, Mr. Alex?” she feigned innocence. Wasn't she the one who couldn't let go of me a few minutes ago? Alex thought. Why was she pretending not to know anything now. They arrive
