Chapter #16

I walked into the bakery where I work, the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries filling my nose. As I made my way to the back, I saw Jared, my coworker, working at the cash register. He looked up and our eyes met, but he didn’t seem excited to see me.

“Hey, Jared!” I greeted him with a smile.

“Hey,” he replied, his tone flat. “Wait, you can’t go in there yet.”

I stopped in my tracks, confused. “What do you mean? Why not?”

Jared sighed. “The boss wants to talk to you first”

" For, What?"

" I don't know. He told me when you come to the bakery send you to his office. He wants to talk to you." He replied.

“Oh,” I said, feeling a little deflated. I had been looking forward to starting my shift and getting to work in the kitchen. “Okay, thanks for letting me know."
