.Chapter 9: Screw Alpha Chadwick Kai.Saint was leaving.Tasha was leaving. And Jessica was drunk out of her mind. She was moving clumsily on the dance floor, immensely different from her usual, graceful, dancing style, and pressed up against some other wolves. The club reeked of alcohol, sex, vomit and sweat and in the back of her mind her wolf was on high alert, making sure nobody tried to take advantage of her.Jessica is not this sort of person – she doesn’t like getting drunk or dancing among the equally drunk, but her two closest friends are leaving and she feels awful. And lonely. And she just wanted to make it go away.“Such a pretty, small Omega,” a Beta slurred into her ear and Jessica, even if she was tipsy, pulled back with a scowl. She hated the way the Beta said it, ‘pretty’ and ‘small’ in a way that was patronizing.Jessica stumbled away from the lewd stare, feeling like she wanted to crawl out of her skin.A new song started to play and Jessica closed her eyes, losing herself to the beat and rhythm and addicting melody.Screw Chadwick Kai and his gorgeous face and his dazzling crooked smile and his mesmerizing voice.‘I don’t want him. I don’t need him. He’s just a stupid, conceited Alpha.’Jessica’s fist clenched and a voice in her head says ‘you keep telling yourself that.’Someone came to dance with her. The room was spinning and the lights were low but Jessica could make out single-lidded eyes and thin lips, smiling in a way that was brash and arrogant. Hands come to rest on her waist and pull her close and Jessica briefly thought this isn’t right but that only made her want to do it more.So she let it happen, slightly on edge. The other guy mumbled compliments in her ear and Jessica only picked up half of it, but from what she did hear, it was enough to make her flinch.“Whoever let you go is going to be sorry. You’re mine now.”Ugh.Jessica hated being talked to like this – like an object to be owned by other people, passed around. She went to step away but the hands on her waist prevented her. Irritation crossed her alcohol consumed mind.“Hey, let go.”“But why? We only just started.”“I don’t want to dance with you,” Jessica hissed and tried to pry his hands off. The guy only gripped her harder and Jessica winced in pain. Her wolf snarled. The other leaned forward, drunken breath blowing in Jessica’s ear, making her squirm. “You’re so feisty, are you this aggressive in bed too? I’d love to find out.”Jessica grimaced, disgusted. The mere thought of it repulsed and offended her.“Fuck off, or –”She was cut off by another person stepping between them, shoving the offending wolf away. The new guy was only slightly taller than Jessica herself, but he had an aura that told others not to mess with him. He glanced at Jessica and then grabbed her hand, tugging her through the club towards the exit.Jessica was stunned but let this stranger lead her out into the street. She came face to face with a concerned and enraged Natasha.Jessica looked to the guy who had helped her out of the unpleasant situation and realised, oh, this must be the Amir.Tasha was livid. “Jessica, what are you doing? You can’t get drunk alone, you’ll be taken advantage of. How could you do this to yourself?”Her best friend crossed her arms, eyebrows narrowed and jaw clenched hard.Jessica opened her mouth to reply, probably something doleful, but her teeth chattered as her senses started to work again and she recognized just how cold it was. “I t-think I left my jumper inside. I-It’s cold.”“You can buy a new one,” Tasha said candidly and wrapped an arm under Jessica to support her, and also provide her some warmth. “Come on, let’s get you home.”Jessica nodded, too tired to resist and it wasn’t like she wanted to go back into the club. She bit her lip. “I’m going to be alone, Tasha,” Jessica garbled, words sounding incoherent, and rested her head in the crook of Tasha’s neck. “No one is e-ever going to fall i-in love with me.”“Shh, stop spouting bullshit,” Tasha sighed. “You can come visit me in the city, scratch that, come live with me. With us.”Jessica sniffed, teeth chattering. “Amir w-wouldn’t like that.”“Amir will put up with it.”“Amir is right here,” said male butted in, sounding a little bothered, but when he saw Jessica’s tearful face he softened. “But yes, you can come stay with us, I guess.”“I like you already,” Jessica murmured and Tasha snorted, albeit pleased.Amir zipped up her jacket, complacent.Jessica felt her eyes begin to close, eyelids heavy all of a sudden. The rhythmic sound of footsteps – hers , Tasha’s, Amir’s– began to lull her into sleep, soothing her.The slightly sick feeling in her stomach and dizziness had eased and she was feeling far more relaxed. She really wished she could have fallen in love with Tasha, her best friend. It would be so easy. So nice. She mumbled something about how thankful she was for Tasha, but her friend abruptly jerked away and pushed Jessica into the arms of the unsuspecting Beta. Why is everyone shoving me around today?Amir stumbled with Jessica until he caught his balance. He was on the verge of cussing and asking what in God’s name Tasha was doing when he saw the familiar, tall figure walking towards them. His hands were in his jeans pocket and a beanie was pulled low, bangs hanging over his eyes.Amir sighed, “Natasha, don’t...”Said Beta had already stormed off towards the other.“Fantastic,” Amir said, voice blank.Jessica cracked open an eye and saw a blurred, fuzzy face that looked like an Alpha she knew. Her suspicion was confirmed when that beautiful scent washed over her.She was already drawn to it, even in her drunken state, and yet her wolf was telling her to ‘stay away’ and Jessica decided to listen to it for once. She curled her hands around Amir’s neck and hid her face.‘I do not want to see him.’“There, there,” Amir muttered, patting her back awkwardly.Jessica couldn’t see what was going on, but she heard snippets of Kai and Tasha’s argument, or rather Tasha yelling heatedly at Kai, who patiently tried to respond before being interrupted mid-sentence.She whined, not wanting her best friend to get in a quarrel because of her.“Don’t worry, Kai won’t do anything,” Amir comforted her, sensing Jessica’s distress. “He’s not like that.”Jessica felt a tight feeling in her stomach, like disappointment and sadness from Kai’s earlier rejection.I know, and that’s why I had to end up liking him.“Now you listen here brat, you stay away from my Jessi or I’ll make your life hell when I come to the city. She doesn’t need this from you!” Tasha continued to shout as Jessica curled up against Amir, incredibly embarrassed.Jessica was older, she was the older one, so why was Tasha having to defend her?She felt terrible. This was her problem, Tasha shouldn’t be caught in the middle.Kai said something, not angry, but firm.Jessica turned slightly to see him and their eyes met. There was that dangerous promise lingering behind his controlled appearance as he did a once over of the position she and Amir were currently in.Kai’s scent suddenly became stronger, or maybe Jessica just sobered up a little, and she didn’t think she could fight it anymore. She pulled away from Amir slowly and walked towards the disagreeing pair, each step agonizing and relieving. He and Tasha stopped arguing when they saw her approach.“Jessica... ,” Tasha started but a pleading look from Kai and she stopped.Jessica gave her best friend a tight smile, I can handle it.This wasn’t Tasha’s problem, it was Jessica’s, and she had to fix it herself..Claimed by the Arrogant Alpha .Chapter 10: Alpha Kai . Kai is not sure he had ever felt this hopeless. He wasn’t used to not having control, and maybe that was why Alphas craved it so much. Kai can’t deny, he too needed it in his life. But when it came to Jessica Hart, he was at a loss. He couldn’t control him, and it seemed Kai couldn’t even control himself. It was terrifying.“She hates me. I screwed up,” Kai said to Yves, lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Yesterday’s scene was on repeat in his mind, his idiotic words echoing. Shame overwhelmed him. “How do you stay so collected in front of Saint?”“I don’t, but he gets me,” Yves chuckled as he typed on his laptop, sending a new musical arrangement he had created that day to his colleagues to continue touching up and editing. “From like the first second we met, we kind of clicked.”“Jessica doesn’t…” Kai trailed off because the words, the mere thought, made his wolf growl angrily at him. Such thoughts didn’t belong.

This wasn’t Tasha’s problem, it was Jessica’s, and she had to fix it herself. “Fine. Fine!” the Beta snapped to herself more than anyone else. She gave Jessica’s shoulder a quick squeeze, making sure she really was okay, before spinning back to Kai, eyes grave. “But, I swear, if she comes back upset again I will –”“Alright, that’s enough you two,” Amir interrupted, taking Tasha’s hand as he tried to put into words the torture she had in store for Kai. “I think he got the message. Yes, I know, he’s a brat. Let’s go, Jessica will be fine.” Amir glanced over his shoulder at Kai and maybe it was because he was older, or his piercing stare, or something else entirely that Jessica couldn’t quite pinpoint, but she swore everything became tenser than before. The air seemed to get colder, too. Kai m

She had a moment of contemplation, before she suddenly trembled violently. “I’m c-cold.”“Oh,” Kai murmured and it wasn’t a sound of surprise, it was one of adoration. Gosh, she was too much. And then he mentally kicked himself for not seeing the way Jessica’s small frame quivered. He pulled the hem of his jumper over his head, careful not to turn it inside out, and handed it to the Omega. Truthfully, he would have liked to help her put it on, but he didn’t think that would be proper, yet. “Weren’t you the one warning me about getting a cold before?” He teased softly, trying to break the ice.Jessica gave a slight nod, but Kai was completely raptured by how endearing Jessica looked wearing his jumper. It was far too big on her – her hands disappeared in th

Tears started to form in her eyes and her mind was unable to grasp anything except that he wants to mate with me. Her wolf was deep in thought, contemplating Kai’s words, but secretly pleased. Jessica bit her lip. “N-Now?”Kai’s eyes crinkled at the corners as he laughed. So beautiful. “That depends on you.” He brushed back a stray tear, fingers gentle against her cheek. “If you want to be my mate, that is. If you know you won’t regret it in a few days. If you’re sure you’re doing this for the right reasons.” Jessica heard the trace of worry Kai tried to disguise.Right reasons?Jessica dropped her gaze to Kai’s collarbones, unable to handle the Alpha looking so vulnerable. Without his good looks, without his status, Kai would still make Jessica’s heart race. He was understanding, and patient, and respectful. He was t

When Kai finally marked Jessica, he sunk his canines into the curve between her neck and shoulder, it had felt like something deep inside him, a part he didn’t even know about, was complete. And because of their mating bond, every kiss, every touch, every smile they shared afterwards felt more intimate, they felt closer than even when they had been pressed right against each other. Jessica shifted in his arms and leaned her head back, satisfied at the red mark she had left on the base of Kai’s neck. Jessica made a tired sound. “Everything hurts so much.”Kai’s gaze darted to the healing mark which he had finally managed to apply some antibacterial cream and a small wound dressing to. “Still? I thought it would be okay by now.”“Not the bite mark,” Jessica chuckled and ran a hand up Kai’s toned stomach, muscles shivering at the contact. “Everywhere else.”“Oh,” Kai blushed, and then smirked. “And here I was hoping we

I feel like a proud grandmother.”Jessica looked up at her best friend, suddenly feeling very shy (and a little creeped - why 'grandmother?'). Not because of Natasha’s dramatic reaction, but because Amir was beside her. Jessica thought back to the horrible impression she must have given Amir days ago– all drunk and clingy and whiny. She and her wolf cringed. They’d definitely have to apologize and thank him for dealing with that later. Saint had reacted like Jessica’s mother, squealing and fussing over her, whilst Saint’s father, the mayor talked quietly with Kai. His father wasn’t a scary or terribly strict person, but she was sure he would say something about treating Jessica well. Yves and Amir had acted as if they’d already suspected as such.“All

Wheels of his heavy luggage rattled behind him as he coursed through the bustle. The faint whiff of sweet vanilla trembling around him gave him a great sense of security and belonging amidst the sea of strangers.Curled up in Yves’s neck as they walked together, his fluffy ball of warmth snuggled deeper, purring complaints as his eyelids fluttered open only to squint shut again in seconds. “I know, baby, I know, we’ll be home soon.” Yves tried to soothe his mate by scenting him, leaving tender kisses and nuzzles on his curly head, but to no avail. Saint only shrugged it off leading Yves to believe it must be the tiredness from the flight. One of the plethora of similarities the two of them shared was the stinging earache all the constant flying gave them. After so much traveling around the

Saint didn’t notice the exchange between the brothers as he stared out the window in awe at the moving buildings.“I called Chanel after landing.” Yves said after the short silence. “Is she home?.” “No she’s not, still at work but she called me after,” Valentino laughed, “yelled at me the whole time to drive faster. Which I was doing, I'll have you know. The paparazzi are a little too pesky to get rid of. Last thing we want is an ugly scandal on your first day back home with your mate.” Yves chuckled at that, hiding behind the smile, his paralyzing fear, that of some unfortunate rumor, some vile scandal involving him and Saint to be thrust into the media by the press. “Don’t worry, pup. I’ve already talked to all my teams, nothing will
