Sasha exited her room thirty minutes later and made her way to the dining room, unsurprised to find the table had been left with all the dishes and food still there. Not a single solitary one of them knew how to pick up after themselves. They likely couldn’t wipe their own ass without coaxing and applause.
She fought her smirk at the empty pasta bowl though. They hadn’t been able to resist. She imagined them all sitting here begrudgingly enjoying the delicious meal she’d made. Ruthie had taught her well and she felt smug satisfaction at knowing even though they hated her, they liked her food.
She looked around wondering where they had all disappeared to and then decided she would have to clean up after them, regardless of Sonny’s warning to them while he’d sat at the table.
She gave a sad sigh as she noted Sonny’s dish still had most of his pasta on it. She began collecting the dishes and carrying them to the kitchen. It took nearly thirty minutes to get the
"I’m sorry, Nonno. I’m sorry, I –”“Angie what the hell did you do?” Rin grabbed her and pulled her away from the yelling man.Sonny was writhing on the bed, tea spilled all over his chest and his body straight out as if he were in agony. Sasha threw the tray off the bed uncaring it landed to the floor with a clatter and ripped the thin quilt off him. She yanked the shirt open to reveal light pink mottling on his chest, but he grunted about his leg, and she felt a terrible moment of panic. No. Not the leg.“Angie!” Rin shook her furiously. “What happened?”Sasha considered it couldn’t have been hard enough because her head was still attached, and she was still capable of speaking. She felt a terrible need to violently end the woman who had carelessly hurt Sonny. Her pathetic words only served to make her angrier.“I was trying to get comfortable on the bed and I accidentally le
Rin helped his grandfather back to the room and noted his family all still standing around the end of the bed. Angie was hugging the tin of cookies to her chest like a lifeline. She didn’t look like she was going to give them up anytime soon. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her cheeks were red from all the crying she’d done. If he had to guess, she truly felt bad about popping their grandfather’s leg open like an oversized zit. She was frowning, crumbs on her chin and staring into space.“I don’t think they’re sugar-free, Ang,” he looked to her hips with a smirk. “You complained about the carbs at lunch and now you’re shoving biscotti in your face like they’re oxygen. You should put those down.”“You only want me to put the tin down so you can take it.” She glared at him. “You can’t fool me. You might be the oldest but I’m onto you.” She hugged the tin tighter, “do
He looked to Sonny who was frowning and if Rin thought about, appeared a little high. He wondered what was in the pain tablet Sasha had given him because his pupils were fixated. At the thought of her he groaned. He’d just fucking bellowed the family business for the entire neighborhood to hear and she was literally right across the hall. She’d probably heard every fucking thing. He’d deal with her after. First and most importantly was the stoned man laying pale and barely moving. He took the tin of biscotti which had been left on the bed and set them on the nightstand near his grandfather and approached the older man, an ache in his chest he desperately needed to assuage. “Sonny, I’m sorry.” Apologies never came easy to him but this one fell from his lips with desperation. “I am so sorry for the disrespect this family has shown you.” He knelt on the floor beside the bed and kissed his grandfather’s knuckles of the hand he grasped. “You gave us the world and we gave you disrespect. I
Angie came into the kitchen sputtering, “there’s a stripper in a nurse’s uniform at the door. She said she’s a friend of yours. She has a kid with her, too.” “Did you let her in?” “I made her wait at the door. I’m not letting some stranger in a stripper outfit into the house!” Sasha rolled her eyes as she put the lid back on the soup she was making and walked past the woman, “do you think you could take your prejudice out of your ass for ten seconds?” “This is my grandfather’s house!” Angie trailed after her. “Your friends aren’t welcome. This is a special place. My grandmother would be rolling in her grave at the fact my grandfather is entertaining you in her home. This place is sacred.” “It’s a house not a church,” she clenched her fists. “It’s a home. It’s his home. My grandfather’s home. He doesn’t just let anyone in here.” “Is it? How would you know? You never visit.” She spat over her shoulder and was happy to see Angie’s face flush from
She tried to force down the panic at his words. She was acting stupid because her body was responding to the man in front of her and slapping the Don was likely a huge faux pas. She’d just hit the head of the Allegretti family, so she played tougher and looked him right in the eyes, “I’ll break those fingers if you touch the dish ahead of dinner.” “She’ll do it too,” Orion giggled, “once at the club a man came to pick on one of the girls and Aunt Sasha hit him with a chair. It was the funniest thing I ever saw.” “You weren’t supposed to ever talk about it again. What happens in Gina’s?” “Stays at Gina’s,” he waved at Rin, “but he’s Sonny’s grandson. It’s different.” “No, it’s not.” “Yes, it is,” Orion argued, “Sonny keeps secrets so Rin can keep secrets.” “You hit someone with a chair?” Rin went back to Orion’s story. “Right over the head!” Orion erupted in giggles. “The man fell to the floor like a rag doll.” He demonstrated by falling off the chair and landing to the floor in
She carried her bowl of soup in the direction of the room when she caught sight of Viviana coming down the stairs flanked by her mother and sister. “Where’s Rin?” “Sonny’s room.” She turned back in the direction of the kitchen. She did not need the drama. She’d rather eat alone. Surely Sonny wouldn’t get annoyed with her for avoiding them. “What smells so good?” Viviana questioned her eyes peering towards the bowl in Sasha’s hands “Soup. I made a huge pot. It’s in the kitchen. Help yourself.” She stood now frozen unsure of which direction she should go. Frick. She felt like she could handle Viviana, but Angie and Concetta were a pain in the ass. “Don’t you have to get ready for work?” Angie looked her over. “Where’s your costume?” Sasha tried desperately not to make a face at Angie. “Most girls don’t arrive to work in costume. They dress up when they’re there.” “What is your favorite costume?” “Executive CEO,” she bit out smartly. “Mafia princess is my other one.” She shifted t
Without missing a beat, Rin ripped the bowl out of her hand, shoved it next to his dessert on the tray and hauled her out of the bedroom. He dragged her down the hall towards Sonny’s office. She didn’t miss the smirks on the faces of the three women being accompanied by Gian as they were making their way out of the house. She winked back at them and blew them a kiss, further enraging the man who had his hand wrapped so tightly around her bicep it was likely to leave a bruise as he shoved her into the dark room and slammed the door behind her. “What the fuck is your problem?” she yanked her arm out of his grasp in a move which surprised him. He’d underestimated her strength and her ability. She fought the feeling of smug satisfaction.“You disrespect me in front my family, in front of my grandfather, in my family home?” he backed her against the door, slamming his hand against the wall beside it striking a light switch. It caused one lamp near a sofa to light up, but th
He was walking purposefully toward her now with the whip dangling over his fingers and he flicked his wrist making it effortlessly coil around her middle, stinging her flesh but not intensely. He was letting her know he had excellent skills in wielding the weapon. “Did you know I have a cattle ranch?” He tugged the leather and pulled her towards him. She stumbled over her feet at his trickery. “No,” Sasha swallowed at the intensity of his stare as he looked down at her. Her fingers gripped the leather as he pulled them closer together. She noted for the first time his nose was a little offset and had a small bump as if it had been broken once. She found herself wondering if it was work-related or from playing sports or something which happened on his ranch. “Mm. I’m an avid horseback rider. I have five hundred head of cattle. I am very good with a riding crop, a bullwhip and of course, the sexy ones like floggers and little braided hand-whips.” She licked her lips at his words. “Yo
