Chapter 44

Quickly, I dodged out of the way, only missing the pressure of her nails by an inch. She skidded across the broken debris. Her hands positioned and sliding along the length of the glass we stood on. Her movements were fluid, as in that of a warrior. That could not have been me. She stood back up and I felt cemented to my feet. A snarl, a disgusting ugly snarl was situated on her face. Then as if she was fighting against everything in her, against the wind, against her free will, she began advancing to me again. The same cracks only deepened, the same gaps only widened from the weight of her ascending footsteps.

That was when the whole glass shook and rumbled, and split half way in the middle. I lost my footing. Tendrils of air whipped and bit on my face and my skin. I was falling. Helplessly. Without any escape. With no end in sight. Flashes of the debris that was suspended in the air was coming down at an accelerating rate, came down with me. My breath hitched in my throat.
