CHAPTER 8- The Ultimate Sacrifice
Killian didn’t even make it out of the building when he shifted into his wolf form, the action causing his clothes to tear into mere rags, into shreds.
He dashed off, heading into the forests, a shortcut that would take him straight to the pack borders.
Back at the grand hall, Kendra was cursing the Alpha,
In her head, of course.
She had barely managed to bark the words Wait, we need to plan first, when the infuriating beast had burst out of the grand hall, heading for the borders.
Kendra knew how important the pack was to the Alpha… he was as possessive of it as a mother wolf was of her cubs, but he didn’t know how many of the curers were out there, and granted… he was a very powerful wolf, but a few Silver weapons too many, and he would be just like a normal human being— completely mortal and at the mercy of the evil humans.
Now a little background on the origin of the werewolf curse.
The werewolf curse had infected a select few about a century ago, around the 1500s.
At first, when the plague struck, doctors and medical practitioners had tried every trick up their sleeves to address it… from bloodletting, to splitting skulls open and whatnot, but as the days went by the patients became stronger and stronger, until the full moon came and their morphing was complete.
You can imagine how surprised the normal Ton had been to see such spectacular feat.
The period of enlightenment by then, was a whooping two centuries away, and so naiveté and superstitious beliefs had been the order of the day.
All people who had been infected were proclaimed cursed by Royal decree and the verdict had been simple:
Death.
People with the curse had been on the run since, and they had found solace in each other, forming packs and associations because there was safety in numbers.
The Silver Crest Pack had been one such pack.
The Curers, with the full backing of the Queen had brutally annihilated countless wolves, extending their crusade into other countries that had sought out their help.
Over a hundred years and over, and they were still going strong.
And honestly, Kendra Sullivan had had enough.
She mind-linked the warriors of the pack who weren’t on duty that day, ordering them to meet the Alpha at the Pack borders, and then, grabbing a fork and a flute of champagne, she signaled for the musicians to stop playing.
Kendra then headed for the podium and beat the fork against the glass loudly to get everyone’s attention. “Sorry to ruin the fun, folks… but the time we have all been training for is finally here. The Curers have found Silver Crest—”
She was interrupted by loud gasps and the occasional wail, but she did her best to calm everybody down. “This is why we have been training, guys… we are not just going to sit here and watch them take away our homes, watch them take our lives from us.” Her gaze shot across the crowd confidently, and her eyes danced with fury. “No. We’re not giving them that satisfaction. We’re not giving up without a fucking fight! Now everyone get yourself armed and let’s head to the borders.”
A chant of vigor slowly rose out of the crowd, and Kendra felt her eyes change color as her wolf fought her for dominance. “Even if we die tonight, folks… let us know that we died with honor and valor, now come on… LET’S MOVE!!!”
Hundreds of people followed her out of the grand hall. Her ball gown had long been ripped into a short skirt to aid her movement.
She could see the look of pride on Tyrone’s face as they raced towards the borders and her heart warmed at the sight. “That was a very excellent speech, Beta Sullivan.”
But she couldn't even bask in the glory of the praise,
All she could think about was Killian and if he was safe.
*****
Killian’s wolf howled in contentment each time he brought another Curer to his knees.
He was going to do everything to save his pack, even if it meant dying to do it.
Honestly speaking, it was why he had dashed off into the woods without waiting for backup. For him, it was a suicide mission of some sort, to rid him off the curse and save his pack while he was at it, but for some reason, he was still alive.
You see, Killian had been shot with as many silver bullets and arrows as could out maneuver his sharp reflexes, but he was still going strong, still attacking more curers.
Killian knew that he should have been dead by now, because he could feel the poison coursing through his veins, but rather than feel faint, he felt even more invigorated than ever.
“RETREAT!!! WE NEED TO RETREAT! THIS ONE’S IMMUNE TO SILVER!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES, SAVE YOURSELVES!!!” Someone shouted, but his words didn’t even end when Killian’s vicious jaws clamped down on his throat, ripping out his innards in a gory, bloody fashion.
The rest of the curers –first about 200, now, just a mere 80– fled for their lives, but it was too late for them, Kendra and the rest of the warriors charged in on them, striking everyone who was left in a vengeful fury.
By the time the mini battle had ended, not a single Curer was left alive, it was a complete obliteration.
Kendra’s gaze sought out Killian in through the crowd, and her heart sank at the sight of so many silver arrows sticking out of his jet black fur. “Killian!!!”
She was by his side in a minute, tears already making its way into her eyes. “Oh, Kill… what have you done?”
His wolf whined softly and licked her face, its frightening gray eyes shining with unshed tears.
Kendra felt his fur ripple underneath her touch, and then she heard bones crack and shift, then the Alpha was human again.
She quickly flung her cloak off her shoulder and covered him with it to shield his nakedness, being careful not to touch the arrows still sticking out of his body.
Seeing her look of concern, Killian chuckled in humor, blood spurting out of his lips at the action.
Kendra observed him in horror.
It seemed the poison was slowly putting him in a state of delirium.
“You’re badly injured, Kill. Your body is totally covered in silver bullets and arrows.”
“Come on. What are you talking about? I’m perfectly fine, Ken… see?” He whispered. “Sometimes, you worry too damn much.”
Those were his last words before the darkness swallowed him completely.
CHAPTER 9- THIS WAS GOING TO HAVE TO DO “Any changes, Maymunah?” Kendra asked for the umpteenth time as she observed the comatose Alpha. “Still nothing, child.” The Oracle confirmed. “Honestly speaking, it’s a miracle he’s still alive, Kendra. No wolf should be breathing after having that much silver in their system.” If it was a miracle, why wasn’t the brute fucking awakening then? Kendra didn’t ask the Oracle this though. She already knew what the answer was going to be. Only the Gods knew why. At this point, and with everything that had been going on, Kendra wasn’t even sure she believed in them anymore, but for the sake of her best friend, she prayed to all of them… Zeus, Poseidon, Hermes, Athena… she prayed to whoever cared to listen to save her friend who was simply put, nothing but a pure heart. It had already been three days. Three days since their clash
CHAPTER 10- Wet Killian was trying to work out, but he couldn’t concentrate. What in the fuck had he gotten himself into? He couldn’t really explain it, but it was like now that he had gotten a taste of Kendra… gotten a taste of her lips, of her skin, he just couldn’t seem to stop himself and his thoughts. He wanted more! But that did not even make any sense. He had never felt that way with anyone, not even Artemis whose company he was growing to appreciate more and more each day, the feelings just… confused him. Was he feeling this way because inwardly, she was the one he wanted to be with? Or was it because he was afraid that she would find her love in the arms of another man from another pack and leave him all alone? At this point, he didn’t know anymore… and he didn’t care. All he knew was that he was a very stubborn man, and that he was goi
Chapter 11- Tyrone RiverdaleKendra Sullivan was in the pack gardens, tending to a patch of vibrant, red roses. It was one of the little things she loved to do when she wasn’t playing Beta, or taking her wolf for a run, or sparring, or drawing…Yeah, the she-wolf was quite talented. It was early morn, that time of day where the sun was out, but not too hot or shiny. It really was a beautiful day to be out.Kendra felt at peace in that moment, it was a much welcome respite after being so tense for days. She had spent the whole week avoiding Killian, because after his recovery, it became apparent that the very air they both breathed was charged with some indescribable force. The Alpha wanted to talk about the kiss, but she surprisingly didn’t, because she had a hunch as to what he was going to say.And she wasn’t sure it was going to be something that would make her heart flutter with
Chapter 12- Sheer will For the whole period of the council meeting, Killian did not say a single word to Kendra. Everything he wanted to say that required him addressing her, he threw to their gamma, Miguel, instead. He had seen how much that had unnerved her, but he literally didn’t care. It wasn’t like she had cared about his feelings when she had turned up late to the meeting with his worst enemy anyway. By the time the meeting had ended, Killian was a complete thinking mess. Was Tyrone courting his Beta? It seemed like the only logical explanation… the only reason why they were suddenly spending so much time together. But if that were so, why hadn’t Kendra told him about it? Of course she knows you’re going to blow your fucking fuse, you arrogant brute! His conscience mocked darkly, but he brushed the thoughts aside. He didn’t care. Kendra could do wha
Chapter 13- SpentAnd then she was spent.Kendra’s eyes fluttered close and she sunk into the bathtub to shield her body from her friend’s watchful gaze, horror seeping into her veins as she struggled to comprehend what had just happened and the implications it was going to have on their lives and their relationship. The female-Beta took a deep breath and stepped out of the tub, pretending not to care that the Alpha could see her… all of her. It was the only thing she could think of to grasp onto the remaining thin ropes that were holding their relationship together. She brushed past him nonchalantly and reached for her robe to cover her nakedness, and then turned to him when she was fully dressed. “What are you doing here?”Killian just didn’t understand. How was she so cool and unconcerned about what had just happened? He was literally struggling to come to terms with it&
Chapter 14- Seeking AnswersLove. Now Killian just had to laugh at that.As much as that would have been a very wonderful piece of news, it was unfortunately not true. There was no way he was in love with Kendra. No literally, there was no way.He had been cursed. Or had everyone suddenly forgotten about that?“You seem to have forgotten that I’m still cursed—”“No, I know that… but think about it, man…” Tyrone cut him off excitedly, “Until yesterday, you thought you were impotent… hell, we all thought you were. Honestly speaking, I’d wager everything I have if it came down to it, but I think you’re slowly breaking all the other aspects of the curse, Killian.”Killian pondered over the blonde Alpha’s words…Could he be telling the truth? And if he was, what did that mean for him?
Chapter 15- The grand revelation The two wolves had barely made it to the entrance of Maymunah’s wing when the grand door opened with a sudden surge, a strong gust of wind being the apparent cause. The two shared a knowing look. Damn Maymunah and her sometimes annoying love for theatrics. “Ah, I was just about to send for you guys,” She croaked, moving about more swiftly than usual. “Wait, you didn’t send for us?” Kendra asked in puzzlement. “No, child. Killian just wanted Alpha Riverdale gone.” Came the oracle’s answer. Kendra shot the Alpha a silent glare at that, but thankfully, she didn’t say anything. Maymunah’s outer chamber was like something out of a fairytale storybook. That typical witch’s parlor with floor to ceiling shelves stuffed with all kinds of books, and potions, and cauldrons upon cauldrons… but somehow the room was also surprisingly neat and tidy. “Looks like s
Chapter 16- The Rejection “Maymunah? What are you doing?” Killian asked in confusion. “Come on, get up Maymunah…” Kendra quickly rushed to her side, “What were you thinking, kneeling down like that?” The she-wolf helped the old hag to her feet. “What’s going on?” She and Killian both asked at the same time, waiting for the Oracle’s reply. But the old woman continued to move about, seeming exceptionally happy all of a sudden. “Oh, you two clueless pups,” She finally said. “Don’t you see? The goddess of the moon has come to our aid. The curse has been broken.” “I-I don’t understand.” Kendra shook her head in confusion. What was going on with the Seer? Had the over-exertion perhaps affected her in more ways than they could imagine? Because she was really acting all weird. “Kendra, Killian. Take a seat you two, I’m going to explain everything.” The two wolves did as the oracle said. “You know we’re supernatural, right?” She started. Kendra and Killian shared a silent look. It was
