Chapter 0003

Emily was pulled into the room by a nurse, her feet barely touching the ground as she was dragged along. She was so pale that her skin seemed almost translucent, and there was a dark stain on her skirt that made Jackson's heart stop.

However he pushed the care on his face away.

The nurse sat her down in a chair, and Jackson turned to the doctor, his voice firm. "Do it," he said. "Start the transfusion."

The doctor nodded, and turned to prepare the equipment. Emily's eyes were wide with fear, and Jackson felt a wave of guilt wash over him. But he knew there was no other choice this was the best way.

"Jackson," Emily whispered, reaching out a trembling hand to him. But before she could say anything else, Jackson exploded.

"What?!" he shouted, his eyes blazing with anger. "You have to understand, I don't have time for this! I need to focus on Amelia!" Emily flinched at his words, and her hand dropped back to her side. "I just need a moment to collect myself," she said, her voice barely audible.

The nurse stepped forward and laid a hand on Jackson's arm.

"Sir, I think you should know that it looks like Emily has just suffered a miscarriage." Jackson froze, but still his face remained cold and collected.

After a long moment, he spoke, his voice cold and emotionless. "I'm sure I'm not the father," he said. "It's for the best that she lost it but I’m glad she didn’t die yet, as our contract isn’t over yet, stay strong, Emily."

Emily felt as if she had been slapped. The pain of her loss was already overwhelming, but to hear those words from Jackson was like a knife to her heart. She tried to speak, but no words would come out. The nurse's eyes widened, and she looked back and forth between the two of them.

"Sir, I think you should leave," she said. "You're not helping the situation. Do you want your wife to die! How can you say such a thing?”

"No," Jackson said, his voice still cold. "You're the one who needs to leave. I'm not going anywhere."

The nurse looked conflicted, but after a moment, she nodded and left the room. Emily stared at the floor, her head spinning. And then, she heard Jackson's voice again, this time softer, more hesitant.

"When you asked me to marry you, did you give me time to think?" he asked. Emily's head snapped up, and she met his eyes. "I didn’t," she said. "And I know, but I did that because I loved you."

“Well, if that’s true, I’m also doing this because I love you to.” This was the second time he would tell Emily that he loved her, apart from the first day they got married. “If truly you love me, you’ll do whatever I want.”
