Olivia Bestman sat in an armchair facing her husband. Thinking about how the situation escalated so much.
"Your lawyer came by yesterday... And left with a conflicted look, it bothered me so much what the secret meeting was about..."
She paused for a while to gauge his reactions.
"Is it true?."
"Yes... Yes, whatever your guts told you is true."
"How could you do that to our son? You can't give away all our fortune to a cripple! Ernest this is our hard-earned wealth!" She cried.
"I mean there are other ways to get our son to turn a new leaf than giving up everything to some beggar. We can sit him down and talk to him, when was the last time you both had a father and son time? It's either you're on your long travels or he's trying to avoid your judgmental gazes."
Ernest stood in anger. he loved his son as much but his wife contributed so much to his irresponsibility and still did.
Everyone was here except him!... Sophia thought while they all sat in the magistrate's office waiting for the so-called groom to make his grand appearance. There was no need for a white wedding. Olivia insisted it wasn't necessary and Sophia didn't mind, she wasn't stable for the stress that came with it though. So they all arranged a mini court wedding and after the paperwork are signed everyone would converge at the Bestman mansion for an extravagant reception. Maureen already saw to it that the maids at home prepared assorted dishes for her guests. Her stepmother was more enthusiastic than the bride herself, she dressed in a peach Alexander Mac Quinn gown which barely covered her upper bosom. But unlike her, Olivia dressed in a simple carton color skirt and blouse and matched with a flowery hat and her red bottom heels. She looked quite exotic and still maintained her simplicity, unlike Mau
Infuriated was the word Jason would use to explain his present emotion as he ransacked his live-in closet for his passport and money, yet found nothing. It was obvious his tenacious mother and over-prioritized father had invaded his privacy once more, dashing all his immediate plans of eloping with charlotte to the mud. Jason groaned in frustration, he flung some clothes off the hanger, furiously dragging his expensive leather box out of the wardrobe, and began tearing out everything in it without a second thought. Seeing red, Jason marched down to his parent's quarters in the east wing muttering incoherent words to himself as he ignored the weird looks by the servants around. "Where is it?!" He exhaled watching his mother carefully like a predator. Olivia stopped applying her night lotion and smiled once she saw her son came home. "Jason you're h
She woke up to murmuring, people were talking inaudibly in the hallway beside her door. Sophia thought it was happening in her late afternoon dream, but she woke and still heard two voices murmuring outside her door and one had masculinity to it. she wasn't expecting anyone, not Stan nor Maureen and her doctor was supposed to come in the early mornings. she sat up under the duvet to listen for a while. "Is she here already?" The male voice asked. "Yes_yes sir, she is but she's sleeping. you can meet her once she's awake, her doctor thinks_" The feminine voice was interrupted harshly. "I don't care what the doctor thinks, and I don't care to see her." Hisses. Sophia could hear footsteps retreating, and nothing. She didn't grab much from the little conversation but she guessed it was one of her maids. either Sabina or the other one whom she didn't know her name. But who she was talking to? She didn't know. But that was the least o
Jason finally moved in!... He moved in, having nowhere else to go for shelter he was forced to move into his new home. But he did well to see that they both never saw each other. He wasn't ready to become friends with anyone. So he'd return home very late at night and stay up all night in the living room to drink to stupor, whenever he managed not to get drunk outside. The drink helped his insomnia. Found it very difficult to catch a good night's sleep especially when the reason was just rooms apart. So he drank till he could forget his sad and haunting conscience. Then the next day he'd wake by 8:00 am after his morning routine he'd run off to God knows where. In his mind, he thought Sophia wouldn't want to lay eyes on him or speak to him at all. He thought she hated him for her situation. So he didn't want to see the pain in her eyes nor hear her bitter words. As h
Maureen visited!.... Maureen stormed the house with her noisy nature and demanded the maids rush to the kitchen and prepare varieties for her. Claiming she was supposed to be treated as a very important guest because it was her daughter's home. And so the maids did as she commanded. Luckily Sophia had no therapy sessions. "Dear you look so well and younger, bet your husband is good with you" she tried to tease. Sophia barely smiled. "Welcome, how is the house-hunting going for you?." "It hasn't been easy dear, my friends and even my enemies now want to be helpful because they think I've got gold, and of course I have. it's not easy becoming in-laws with such a rich family." She bragged caressing her costly chain watch. Sophia noticed, Maureen was becoming very extravagant and wasn't sure where the money was from. "Sure." "These girls you keep around are very incompetent. how long does it take to prepare a three-co
Jason had a huge fallout with charlotte. She was beginning to pressurize him, demanding they both elope to another city or country altogether as previously planned. Charlotte seemed to forget that what held him home was much more than he could explain. He couldn't leave his fortune and run off with nothing all in the name of love. He wanted badly to run away with charlotte and even get married but, he would lose everything and have nothing, and charlotte wasn't the most decent girl, she wouldn't be able to cope without money or understand that he was broke. She loved to spend a lot even on unnecessary things. She could spend money on trivial things because Jason was always there to pay. But this time the wheels changed. He felt more peaceful in his new home than with charlotte. She began to nag unnecessarily and her mood swings. Jason already lost count of the number of times she had
Lights... Someone pushed open the curtains and window blinds letting the morning sun sweep into the darkroom. Sophia stirred in her sleep. The bright rays causing her to lose sleep and she opened her eyes.It was too bright outside, you could never guess after a long cold, and drizzling night that the sun would be so intense. She sat up on her bed and recalled last night's event. she turned to space next to her hoping to find Jason there. But he was gone. But the sheets were rumpled indicating someone was once there. She thought when he must have woken and limped back to his room. If she could remember properly, his injury was very painful because he kept on grunting and trying to ease up his pain. He must need some help with it. Sophia turned to Sabina who was getting her bath ready. "Did... Was someone here when you came in?" She asked unsu
"You sent for me?." "Yes I did, this is yours" he dropped his passport on the mahogany table before him. "What's the need for it then? Thought you seized it?." "Your mother told me how you accosted her because you wanted to elope after your wedding," Ernest said, adjusting in his armchair. Nodding in realization. "She tells you everything. What's left to say then?." "You insulted her!... Am alright with you disappointing and disrespecting me but your mother?!." "It wasn't my intention to" Jason defended himself. "I was pissed off, I felt like a teenager! I am an adult for god's sake and still have my parents seize my passport without my knowledge." "We wouldn't treat you that way if you had the least respect for yourself." "Then why give it back now? Or you think I've become comfortable in my new home or I've suddenly become respon
