Sophie’s Pov
I spent the whole weekend shopping for new office wears and some flats as I had just one that Gia gifted me a few months back during my project defense.
Now the weekend was over and I got even more excited about my new job. Both Rina and I just had breakfast, after clearing the table and promising to do the dishes later I rushed to the mirror to ensure my makeup was intact even though it seemed like I didn’t have any on and my dress was intact.
“Rina, your backpack” I scolded Rina who seemed to have left her backpack either in the kitchen or her room.
She made an ‘Ohhhhh’ sound while she rushed into the kitchen and then came back in a blink of an eye.
“Aunt Gia will drop you off at school and pick you up later, I need you to be at your very best behavior okay” I said more in a pleading tone while she nodded while sulking into her lower lips.
After we were both outside I locked the down firmly behind me. We were about to head down the street when I sighted Gia’s car “Thank goodness she’s here” I said more to myself while I rushed towards her already parked car, pulling Rina behind me.
“How’s the newly employed faring” Gia said to me with a smile after I had placed Rina in the back seat and got into the front with her.
“Can you just drive?” I asked slightly nervous while my eyes glanced to my wristwatch, if anything I wanted to be 30 minutes early.
“You’re going to do great” Gia assured me while she started the engine and drove into the street.
“I hope so” I bit my lips anxiously.
After Gia had dropped off Rina, she insisted on taking me to my work place since taking the bus would take my time and it might be hard to get a taxi.
“You didn’t have to” I told her after we had arrived.
“Your first salary belongs to me, you know that right?” Gia told me smiling.
“I will think about it” I replied while I kissed her quickly and then hurried to the lobby.
The company lobby seemed even more packed than it was on the day of the interview. Everyone seemed busy, either holding a file or on the phone and rushing over to someone.
It took a while for the elevator to arrive and immediately it did we all rushed in knowing the elevator wouldn’t contain everybody, the last three persons that stepped in were asked to step out and wait for the next.
I didn’t bother hitting the seventh floor button as someone already did. I struggled to breath as I was squeezed between two medium sized females and their mixed perfume made me feel like I was going to faint.
“Excuse me” I tried to say but was cut short by a tall man who wore an angry look.
“Hey you” The man pointed to me “Can you stop moving around? We’re all trying to be comfortable here” He added angrily.
My eyes quickly scanned that of the people in the elevator and they seemed to have agreed with him “I’m sorry” I said through gritted teeth while I tried even more to stop my self from throwing up.
Immediately the elevator opened at the seventh floor, I rushed out breathing heavily. The stares I got from people around made me realize they noticed me but I didn’t care all I wanted to do was to breath out all I had been holding and also find a way to fix my already rough hair.
Unlike the day of the interview the floor seemed a little bit crowded and my eyes quickly glanced to check my wrist watch, I breath out relived when I realized I was twenty minutes early.
“Miss Wells?” A caramel skinned lady approached me. She was dressed richly in a pink top and a black fitted skirt which stopped right after her knee, and a average black heels.
She held a blue long book in both hands and smiled brightly as if she was paid to do just that.
“Miss Wells” I heard her call again, all this while the smile didn’t leave her lips but for some unknown reason it seemed like she was going to laugh.
“Y....Yesss” I snapped back into reality “I’m Miss Wells” I told her hurriedly.
“I’m glad that you are” She shook her head slightly and then stopped to look at the book in her hand for a minute while I took the time to look around “You missed your interview” She said suddenly sounding a little bit disappointed.
My heart beat increased rapidly and I hoped within me that she wasn’t going to tell me I was the wrong employee
“But.....” I started to say searching for the right excuse but I couldn’t finsh my sentence as I was cut short.
“Miss Crest vouched for you” She said suddenly, as if understanding that I didn’t know who Miss Crest was she pointed to the lady I left I cv with “She’s a little close to the admission personnel you know” She stated while she walked down the hallway and I followed her slowly.
“Do you have any work experience” She asked while we entered an empty conference room.
“No ma’m” I replied biting my lips, I took a lot of part time jobs but none was related to this business “But I did train at IU” I added, hoping the six months compulsory training at school would count as job experience.
“We can work on that” She smiled beautifully while she opened another door which led to a room filled with about 20 persons.
The room was extremely quiet that I almost could hear my own heartbeat. Everyone sat nervously and I needed no shrink to tell me that they were all newly employed and were waiting for whoever to come address them.
Without realizing I missed a foot and ended up landing on the floor hitting my butt hard. Everyone’s eyes rested on me but unlike the expected situation, no one laughed at me.
Some eyes showed clearly that they felt sorry for me, while some showed clearly that they didn’t care.
“Are you okay?” The lady from before asked worriedly while she stretched her hand to help me up which I took without hesitation.
“I’m fine” I managed to smile while I wiped off an imaginary stain off my skirt.
My day couldn’t get any more worst, first the elevator and then here. Can my first day just go on without any drama? I groaned inside of me.
“Miss Wells” She called again while I was about to take my seat “Can you wipe off your lipstick? It’s all over your face” She told me while I pulled out my phone, turning on my camera to take a look at my face.
“Shit” I cursed realizing I had walked out from the elevator looking like that and the smiling Miss didn’t even try to warn me about my face.
No wonder she had been smiling all along, she was too good to be true and I definitely would pay her back for mocking me publicly.
Chresanto’s PovAs soon as I stepped into my office, my cell phone beeped causing me to pull my eyes away from the file on the desk.“Sir the new employees await you at the conference hall” Josh my secretary reminded me.I had just arrived from the CEO’s breakfast meeting, which was said to be a compulsory meeting for all CEOS. Josh stated it was a grand way of announcing that I was the new CEO of Lightwood Company.I had all weekends to study all about Lightwood Company and I was glad I already had working experience else it would have been hard taking over the company just like dad had stated.“Sir” Jo
Chresanto’s Pov“And what exactly do I have next?” I asked Josh while I stood solely in front of my mirror fighting with the fact that I had refused to get my tie right. It was already past 4pm and as much as I would have loved a first less busy day at work that wasn’t the case. I have had from breakfast to lunch with several investors, share and stock holders and also people who could influence the future of Lightwood.“Dinner with Senator Banko sir and his wife the Minister of finance” Josh told me while he arranged some papers into a certain file.“Details?” I requested for almost pissed, while I removed my tie angrily after several failed attempt to fix it.
Sophie’s Pov“The files Sophie, I instructed they be on alphabetical order” Mrs Perry who was in charge of teaching us all we needed to know about the company said to me in a loud stern voice.“I’m sorry but some of this files were not labeled” I replied.“Then you should haves checked with me first” She shouted again pushing me aside slightly while she arranged the files herself.“Exactly what you should have done” I rolled my eyes while I murmured to myself.I was almost forced to tell her she should just quit if she so much hates her job. She had taken it to vent her frustration upon me and four other new employees that where
Sophie’s PovThe next few weeks went by smoothly. I had successfully adjusted to working at Lightwood, and found a way to deal with Mrs Perry’s drama.Thomas and I got pretty close, he had been an employee at Lightwood for about two years now and he pretty much understood everything there is to know about Lightwood which made my job a lot more easier.Thankfully I hadn’t seen much of the CEO as I didn’t want to be reminded of our encounter and I wanted him to forget about my stupid look on that day.“Heading home?” Thomas asked behind me while I was heading towards the elevator.I couldn’t be more excited that weekend was finally here as I haven&
Chresanto’s PovThe weekend was finally over, I couldn’t be more happy. All through the weekend, mom had to convince me to go on three blind dates, all of which were a disaster.Even when I came home I had little or no rest with Bella breathing down my neck. Thankfully I had contacted someone to help move my stuff to my new apartment, where I wouldn’t have to deal with neither mom nor Bella.I arrived at the office pretty my earlier than everyone as I didn’t want mom to see me leave. I slumped into my chair exhausted.I spent the next few hours attending to a few mails and files I couldn’t attend to over the weekend.I heard a slight knock and then the door
Chresabto’s Pov“And what exactly am I supposed to do with that?” I asked no one in particular “You call this your grand idea?” I turned to Mrs Powell who stood at front of the conference room with the projector light reflecting on some part of her face and body. The past few days had been a hectic one for me, the company had lost so much lately and I have been given a deadline by the investors else they’ll have to pull out and go for our rival company.“What the hell is wrong with you all?” I asked again, this time my voice rang in every edge of the room and I hit my hands on the table angrily while I got on my feet “You had just one job to come up with something exceptional, yet you decide to present me this trash”
Sophie’s PovAfter my grand idea came out a success and the company was back to normal. I had become a lot more popular around the company.I gained much respect from those superior and others at my level. Regardless of the fact that I enjoyed being appreciated for a work well done, I didn’t like the popularity that came with it and the hate from Mrs Perry.“What was my last statement Miss Wells?” Mrs Perry’s voice snapped me back to reality.“Ma” I jumped slightly while I mumbled on some few words. I had zoned out for more than five minutes now and I heard nothing that was said by her.“Ofco
Sophie's Pov"Hurry Rina, I don't have all day" I said to Rina a few minutes after the taxi arrived at her school. Gia had a few personal issues to deal with so I had to drop off Rina at school."Your lunchbox" I remind her just as she was about to get down from the car without it."Ooops" Her mouth formed an 'O' shape while she grabbed it with her other hand and then rushed out."Have fun and be a good girl" I waved at her while she got accompanied in by one of her school teachers.I arrived at Lightwood after about fifteen minutes, I hurriedly handed over some cash to the driver while I rushed out without advancing to take my change seeing that I was already late.
