This is so good,” the matriarch of the Parkers' family said, twirling around and looking at her reflection in the large living room mirror.

I held my breath, as she continued.

“So good,” she twirled herself once more, and turned to me. “Your designs are so good.” She paused. “Why don't you take on the Grand Dame project?”

A smile finally blossomed on my face, and I nodded fervently. “Of course, Cecelia. I'll be so honored.” I'd been praying for this.

I shook her hand.

“Good. My secretary will send the contract, and details to your email, later.” She said, holding onto my hand longer than expected.

She squinted her eyes, and I couldn't help but feel queasy.

“Anything wrong, Cecelia?” I asked, hesitantly.

“You didn't wear your wedding ring, today?”

Taken aback by her question rather than the abruptness, my smile froze.

“Pardon? I'm-”

“To handle the Grand Dame project, you have to be married. Aren't you aware?” Her perfect brows arched.
