Kain’s face twitched at that, a vein in his neck suddenly popping. His brows creased, “What…do you mean?”

“I don’t want to be someone who’s only value is her wolf. I don’t want to be the only friend who doesn’t fit in. I don’t want to be the only one who gets left behind. I don’t want to be this irredeemable person that has blood on her hands either. I just… I just want to be…me….the me that everyone loved. That version.” Her voice cracked, “…I…I know that won’t happen…But that’s why I want to free you…I want to free my family too.”

Kain stared up at her with a glare. He didn’t quite understand why the sudden pity party. But the way she spoke, the words she said…it felt like she was heading to a place where she’d tempt him to pluck out her tongue.

“Free from what exactly?” He asked her, standing to his feet and boring holes into the side of her face. He crossed his arms over his chest.
