Chapter 16

“Turn around” that same voice commanded. Slowly, we turned around, my heart still beating frantically. I could hear a sob break from Sheila. She trusted me and I fucked up. I landed her in trouble.

“I’m so sorry Sheila” I whispered to myself.

We turned to see a guard standing in an awkward posture, pointing at us. He blinked rapidly, trying to focus his eyes on us.

“What’s going on?” Sheila whispered and sniffed, eyeing the guard. The guard tried to take a step and stumbled, his body connecting with the ground. We stood still waiting for him to stand up or move but nothing happened. We slowly moved to him, checking his pulse, and noticed he still had one. The rise and fall of his chest showed he was still breathing.

“Thank god” I breathed a sigh of relief.

“Jade, what is going on?” Sheila questioned still in panic.
