Ackerly had barely settled into his apartment when a restlessness overtook him. Though he had planned to return to work the next day, his body seemed to have other plans.

The scorching heat bore down on the man, causing beads of sweat to trickle down his forehead. He struggled to catch his breath, his chest heaving with each labored inhalation. He felt a strange urge to alter his physical form, but the nature of this desire eluded him.

Every fiber of the man's being was ablaze. No one had uttered a word of reproach when he failed to show up for work, but now, as he attempts to rise from his bed, it is apparent that a fever has taken hold of him. A low, guttural moan escaped Ackerly's lips.
