59. Feeling Content.

I smiled happily.

A flood of tenderness swept over me as Mathew curled into a comfortable sleep, snug in his bed. As I gazed over him, I was overcome by a wave of protectiveness; my heart ached from the immense love I had for my baby.

The thought of leaving him, even for a moment, filled me with a sense of unease. He was my everything, my reason for living, and I would do anything to keep him safe from harm.

When Mathew had recounted his ordeal, my heart clenched with a mixture of relief and anger. I was grateful that they hadn't harmed him physically, but the thought of my sweet boy being tied up and forced to sleep in a chair filled me vengeance.

With each word Mathew said, the rage simmered within me, fueled by the wrongdoing of what had happened to my son. I traced the faint marks around his hand, with an image of his unease and agony, and promised to do whatever it took to hold those responsible accountable.
