Kayla’s POV
I stared with disgust at the monstrosity laid out in front of me. Well, to be fair, the dress was pretty, and it was the best I could get in such a short notice. It was a royal blue full-length gown with a boat neck and full sleeves. There was silver-colored embroidery below the neck and the rest of the gown was plain.
I had to admit that I would have appreciated the dress if it was anybody else wearing it. It was just that I hated the very thought of wearing a dress. Period.
Two days went by in a flurry of activities and now, it was the day of the Alpha Meet. From early morning, I was being poked and prodded by Stella, a pack member and my self-appointed beautician for the occasion.
Usually, she was timid in my presence, but once she took on her job as my makeup artist, it was as if her entire personality changed.
As she mercilessly attacked me with tweezers and wax strips under the name of beautifying me, I wondered how women went through such tortures regularly. I was a seasoned warrior, and even I winced at all the abuse.
After that, she started doing my hair. I sat there with a frown on my face as she pulled my hair this way and that. Once she finished doing my hair, she took out her makeup kit.
I narrowed my eyes as she opened it and began placing everything on the counter. I didn’t even know the names of half of those things and I knew that if I let her, she would cake my face in layers of makeup and I would look like a real life Barbie doll.
I had enough of the bullshit and I snarled at her, refusing to let her treat my face as a canvas. She tried to talk me into it, but I was adamant in my decision. So, she conceded and agreed to putting on just lipstick and mascara.
Once she was done, she stood back and observed her handiwork. After she examined me, she nodded in satisfaction before declaring that it was time for me to wear the dress.
I sighed as I stared at the dress with reluctance. Shaking my head in annoyance and cursing whoever decided that women had to wear gowns for the Alpha meet, I took the dress to the closet.
A myriad of emotions crossed through my mind and the foremost one was dread. As I held the dress in front of me, I tried to muster up the courage to wear it. I would have gone to a war with much more confidence than this…
Finally, I decided to bite the bullet and just put it on, while trying not to mess my hair.
Once I was done, I turned to the mirror with apprehension. I frowned as I saw that the gown hugged my body, showing off my figure.
My blue-grey eyes were looking more blue than grey. I was wearing cherry red lipstick. My golden hair, which I usually tied up in a messy ponytail, was done in a neat updo which brought the focus to my face. My neck was left bare, but I had diamond studs in my ears. All in all, I looked too girly and nothing like the real me…
I felt a pang of pain as the thought occurred to me that my mother would have loved to see me like this. Then I shook off the thought. That was another life that would never be… In this life, I was the Alpha of the Crescent moon pack and I neither had the time nor heart to be the girl in the mirror.
I glared at the mirror and felt satisfaction as it took off the girly edge from my appearance. There. That was more like it…
I went back to the room where Stella was waiting for me impatiently. Once she saw me, she squealed in delight.
“Wow!” she cried out enthusiastically.
Then she came over to me to do the final adjustments. She arranged my hair and checked my dress before nodding in satisfaction.
"Now you just have to wear the shoes," she chirped merrily.
I followed her gaze and my eyes widened as I saw the blue stilettos she had kept ready for me.
"No way."
"But Alpha-"
"No! I am not going to wear them." I said with finality. My comfort was what mattered, and I was not going to torture my feet by wearing those spiky heels all day.
I went over to my closet and found my silver flats. That should do. I didn't care if it spoiled my look.
Stella looked down at my shoes with a frown but refrained from commenting. Good!
"Thank you, Stella. You did a good job," I complimented her.
"It was my pleasure. I am honored," she replied with a smile that made her eyes twinkle.
I nodded at her and mind linked Ethan.
'Is everyone ready?' I asked.
'Yes. We are waiting for you outside,' he replied.
'I am coming,' I replied.
With a nod at Stella, I left the room. I could feel the eyes of everyone on me as I walked, but I didn't let it affect me. I kept a stoic expression on my face and continued at a steady pace.
Once I went outside the pack house, I saw Ethan standing there along with Harry and Kevin, the guards he selected to join us. He was talking to them as I approached him, and I noticed that he looked dashing in his tuxedo. He had slicked his hair back to go with the tuxedo, and it made his features even more striking.
When he felt my presence, he turned towards me with a smile. The smile froze on his face when he took in my appearance. His eyes widened and his mouth gaped open dramatically as he stared at me.
"Wow…" he whispered. But with my wolf senses, I could hear it as loudly as if he had shouted the words out loud.
"What?" I snapped at him.
"You look gorgeous!" he replied while still staring at me with what seemed like surprise.
I was not vain by any means, but his reaction made me feel as if it was the first time in my life that I was looking good. I felt irritated at the insinuation that I looked like an ugly duckling till day.
"So I am ugly without makeup?" I asked with a blank face.
His face turned red at my question.
"No… You are always pretty… I just meant…," he stuttered, trying to explain.
"Relax! I got what you meant. Now let's go," I said, saving him from making a fool of himself.
He nodded at me with relief apparent in his expression. Then he gave me a charming smile and pointed towards the Limousine waiting for us.
"Your chariot awaits, my lady!" he said.
I raised my brow at his antics before walking over to the car. As we started towards the Lunar Castle, the annoyance I felt at having to dress up faded away to be replaced by anticipation. Again, I had the feeling that I was going to face something very important soon. Why was I feeling like this? Well, let's find out…
Kayla’s POVWe had been travelling for an hour when I felt the sudden urge to turn back and go the other way. I felt as if ants were crawling up my body and the sensation was really unpleasant to say the least.
Kayla’s POV“Everyone, meet Mr. Leander Parker. He is a member of the werewolf council and he will be presenting the topics that have been selected by the council for today's discussion,” Jonathan said while pointing to a golden-haired guy who looked to be in his mi
Kayla’s POV“As you all already know, the Feral Assassin has been killing rogue wolves for the past five years. The council is undecided on whether he is an actual threat or not, since he has only killed so far. But recently, there has been a spike in the incidents, as if he is getting more violent. The time has come that we decide what we are going to do about him,” Leander announced. At the mention of the Feral Assassin, all the Alphas grew uncomfortable and exchanged doubtful glances.“The Council has been lenient with him so far because though his actions were not legally sanctioned, he was doing a favor to all of us by killing off those dangerous rogues. Though we had tried to catch him a few times in the past, he had always been evasive, and since the Council didn’t feel the urgency to catch him, we never put too much effort either. But now, with him growing more violent per day, what is th
Kayla’s POVI felt as if everything else faded away and it was just the two of us in the world. A dreamy smile formed on my face as I felt all my rage and pain vanish by just looking at him. As I met his amber eyes, I felt myself getting lost in them. As my eyes greedily drank up his appearance, I sighed with contentment. His dark hair was messed up sexily and I couldn’t decide if it was deliberately arranged like that or if he had messed it up by running his fingers through it. I had the feeling that it was the latter one, but anyhow; it looked perfect on him. There was just a hint of stubble on his chiseled jaw, and I suddenly had the urge to rub my cheek against that stubble to know how it would feel. He was wearing a tuxedo like every other man here, but somehow it looked better on him than anyone else. Maybe I was a little biased, but there was no denying that he was absolute perfection and I felt lucky
Kayla’s POVI looked up at Ethan and as I expected; he was staring at me with a confused expression. As the other couples danced around us, I started moving slowly so as to not bring notice to us by standing there idly. Realising my intention, Ethan followed my lead and slowly, we started moving together. As we gently swayed together, I saw Ethan opening his mouth to speak. I shook my head at him in warning and he nodded his head in understanding. This was not the time or the place for that conversation.‘Just trust me and help me out for now. You will know everything soon enough. But first I need a little time to sort things out,’ I mind linked him.Ethan stared at me with an intense look before giving a slight nod of acknowledgement.‘If that is what you want. You already know that I trust you. More than anyone and anything in my life, including myself,’ he replied.&nb
Kayla’s POVI kept a blank expression on my face as I hardened my heart to gain the courage to do what may be the toughest thing I have to do in my life. I was an Alpha who was used to taking harsh decisions all the time and I was known as being emotionless because of my actions. But within this short span of time that I spent with my mate, I had felt emotions like I had never known in my life. I had thought that I was incapable of emotions but I had felt happiness, contentment and even a glimpse of hope in the time I had spent with Zane and we hadn’t even spoken to each other yet. just a few minutes, I had felt like I was a normal girl with her man about to get her happily ever after. But now, it was time to face my reality. I was not a girl who was meant to be tied up with a mate because I had other purposes in my life. It was time to remind myself about that.I looked at Zane, who was looking at me with a mix of
Kayla’s POVAs I walked back into the hall, the pain-filled amber eyes of Zane as I rejected him, kept flashing in my mind. I felt disturbed, and I hated that I was letting him get to me. It was the exact thing I was afraid of…I tried to remind myself that he already seemed to get over the pain and is just enraged at me for wounding his pride. But still, my mind continued to be in a state of turmoil. As I watched the people chatting merrily all around me, I felt rage trickle through me. I had enough of this meeting and I just wanted to get away from here. I had tolerated enough for the sake of my pack. But I couldn’t bother to act nice anymore when nice was the last thing I wanted to be right now.I spotted Ethan at the same time as he did me, and I watched as the anxious expression on his face melted to form a smile of relief. He ran his glance over me as if to make sure that I was in one piec
Zane’s POVI rolled over from the bed and sauntered over to the bathroom.“Thanks for tonight, babe,” I threw over my shoulder lazily as I spared a glance at the woman that was sprawled on the bed with a dreamy look on her face. She didn’t give me a reply, and I chuckled, knowing that she has still not come back to Earth from the heaven that I took her to.Well, she had time to gather herself until I was back from my shower. She knew my rules. Love me and leave me…I took a leisurely shower in the bathroom, giving ample time for the girl to dress and leave.I wrapped a towel around my waist as I strolled out of the bathroom while whistling merrily. I stopped in my tracks and my cheerful mood vanished when my gaze fell on the bed.I was expecting it to be empty, but instead, the girl I had left was still in the bed. What more, she had thrown off the bedsheet that she was clut
