Isabel arrived home to find Fernando and Dylan in the living room. Fernando’s eyes were glued to the TV while Dylan’s thoughts was obviously somewhere else. His head jerked up the moment she closed the door behind her. They gazed at each other for what felt like forever until Dylan tore his eyes away from her with a frown evident on his face. “Why did you treat our mate that way?” Dylan’s wolf snarled at him, as he paced his room restlessly, mentally cursing himself for acting like an asshole towards his mate. “ I couldn’t help it. I’m still mad at her for what she did.” He tried to defend his actions. “That’s no excuse. She’s in pain and we’re the only ones who can make her feel better.” “I know. I know…” His wolf wasn’t helping at all. It kept growling and grunting, and scolding him for ruining the perfect chance of claiming his mate. He had no clue what it felt like for a female werewolf in heat, since he was a male werewolf, but he could tell from Isabel’s body language when he had walked into the kitchen that she was in intense pain. Two days has gone by, and there was still no sign of Isabel anywhere. Dylan, too frustrated to continue his search had asked Fernando if he had clues as to where Isabel might be, but the teenager was of no help, so he gave up trying, to avoid whispers in the pack. Not comfortable with staying in the house without his mate, Dylan decided to distract himself by assisting Xavi in training the pack warriors, and so far, that has been helpful. Isabel was in her younger sister’s bedroom watching her as she played with her doll house. Teresa was Isabel’s world. She adores the young child with every fibre of her being and will do anything to protect her from harm. Isabel isn’t the only one who feels that way about Teresa, so does her parents. Couple of years after her parents had her, they tried having another child but it seemed impossible as her mom kept having complications during pregnancy, which led to several miscarriages. This was because her mom was an omega werewolf, the lowest ranked werewolf in any pack. Being mated to her dad gave her some strength, but it couldn’t be compared to the amount of strength received by any other higher ranked werewolf when mated to an alpha, most especially an alpha from the Pride pack. Her parents had almost given up hope of having another child before her mom discovered that she was pregnant with Teresa, and had successfully passed her first trimester. Dylan waved Xavi goodbye as he drove his grey Chevrolet sedan out of the driveway. It was 7:30pm when he got back from training the pack warriors. Xavi had offered to drive him home, seeing how stressed he looked after the training session, which he didn’t object. Within the three days Dylan has spent training the werewolves, he realized that there was nothing different about the werewolves from the Pride pack. They had similar characteristics, likes, dislikes, sense of humor, he could go on and on with the list. He realized there was nothing special or extraordinary about them, besides their large number, their zeal and dedication to fight at anytime,their will to lay down their lives for their pack, the unbreakable bond between humans and werewolves, and above all, their passionate belief and trust in their alphas. Dylan spent a whole five minutes staring at the phone on the nightstand, trying to figure out why Isabel had a sudden change of mind. No matter how hard he tried to solve the puzzle, his thoughts kept settling for one answer, which was the fact that deep down Isabel’s façade of indifference, she actually cared about him. Although she used his family sending out a search party as a good excuse, he has come to the realization that she does feel his worries about being far away from his family and was only giving him a hand in reaching them. He wasn’t aware that he was smiling to himself all this time until he looked at the mirror in his bathroom. ‘Don’t get overly excited, Dylan. This may be her own way of asking you to leave’ At the thought of that his smile dropped, turning into a hurt expression. “I’m sorry.” Dylan said out of nowhere, causing all of Isabel’s current sorrow and pain to completely melt away. He looked like he had gone through a lot within the forty-five minutes she left his room. How was that even possible? He ought to be excited after speaking to his family, because she was certain he has already put a call through to his loved ones. His down cast look and tired eyes that made him seem older than his actual age was sending a whole different message. “What for?” She went ahead to ask, sounding as stern as possible. “For everything.” He sincerely replied, surprising her all the more. She felt his sincerity not just in his voice, but also saw it in his eyes, causing her to wonder where all of this was coming from. He was angry at her from the very beginning up until that night, and she had no doubt that she was going to become mateless in the next two days, so why the sudden change of events? The ride to Isabel’s parents’ house was silent. Not an awkward silence, but a comfortable one. Dylan occasionally stole glances at Isabel, whose eyes were glued to the road. The thought of meeting his mate’s parents without prior notice was making him tensed. Ordinarily, he wouldn’t be worried about acquainting himself with new people because he was a social butterfly, but the circumstances were different. He never imagined himself meeting the former Alpha and Luna of the Pride pack in this lifetime. What was the meeting going to be like? Would the former alpha welcome him with open arms or would he be against the union? If the latter were to happen, it wouldn’t be a difficult issue since they haven’t completed the mating rituals, except his mate does otherwise.
