I got blind from the fire

Iris POV

The bang in my head was quite deafening and I shifted on the bed to attend to whoever had entered the room. Arthur, as called by people around him, had given me lots of warnings, and giving an immediate answer was part of them.

The presence I felt seemed familiar and I spoke up. "Yuri?" I called out to confirm if she was the one.

"Arthur," his hoarse flat voice rang through my head and I flinched at it. Although he saved me, he doesn't behave like he did. It was as if he had done something bad to save me or he was just so ruthless and never cared if he was scaring people or not.

"Hello," I greeted to avoid complaint. I blindly reached for my nightgown because I was not sure of the length of my nightwear.

I heard him let out a grunt. "Don't worry, it's long enough," He told me and I could feel my cheeks heating up.

I lowered my head when I felt he was already closer to me. I felt so embarrassed to blush in front of him.

"Have you gone for a medical test for your eyes before?" he asked to my amusement and I shook my head. I just got blind the day he found me, how could I have gone for a test?

"I got blind from the fire," I revealed to him and an oh escaped from him. I could sense he was amused.

There was a short silence between us before he spoke up, "Well, I came to let you know that I have fixed an appointment for you at hospital de Ojos. You have to see if you can be cured," He mumbled, his voice was low this time and it was surprising but I could not contain my excitement. The brutal man was wanting to help me out again? I was so excited. "Yes! I would so much appreciate that. Thank you so much, sir," I said, trying to go down on my knees but his hand gripped my shoulder aggressively and even though I couldn't see his facial expressions, I knew he was already tense.

He made me sit back on the bed and jerked his hands off me. "We'll leave soon. Yuri will be here to dress you up and note, I won't tolerate any misbehavior, is that clear?"

I nodded in affirmation and soon after I heard the room door close which meant he had left instantly.

I gulped down the saliva stuck in my throat. Losing my sight was something I never expected. Sometimes I wonder which is more painful; losing my sight or the fact that my family abandoned me in a fire. I couldn't choose from any of them because it was so infuriating. Everything about me was just so annoying but I was grateful I wasn't dead.

Shortly, Yuri came in and helped me prepare for the hospital. After a few minutes, I was aided to the car by Yuri where Arthur was already waiting for me. He didn't utter a word to me as we both climbed into his car and we hit the road.

The drive to the hospital was an uneventful one. He still didn't say a word so I kept quiet too. I just can't imagine why he would be someone who had saved me.

"We're here," Arthur finally announced, bringing me out of my thoughts. I heard him open the door and when I tried to open mine, it was already pulled open. He opened the door to the passenger seat and helped me out.

I held his shirt in the middle of his shirt unknowingly and he groaned under his breath so I retrieved it immediately, holding his arms instead. He's such a person I can't dictate. Too defensive of himself. Without knowing him for too long, I can sense pride in his blood.

We headed into the hospital, his hands holding my hands as he led the way. It felt so good that he was interested in letting me see. I wished I could see him too.

Skimming from my instinct, I know he will be handsome but his looks would be that of an arrogant person. He is tall, I could tell but I couldn't figure out how his entire look is with the fact that he didn't like me to touch him. He was always avoiding it and I know it pissed him off that he had to hold my hands to guard me in the hospital.

Unfortunately, I had made a lot of reflections and had no idea he already halted and with that, I hit my head against his back, hardly hearing the sound of it vibrate through me. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I pleaded when his hold on me tightened.

He cleared his throat and I sensed he gritted his teeth "Will you compose yourself now or do you want me to leave you here and return home alone? We're in public, for crying out loud!" He cautioned me and dragged me into the hospital. Why will he bother about the public? Is he a celebrity?

We got to the Ophthalmologist department and I heard someone greeting him, "Arthur! It's good to see you again!" a female voice exclaimed immediately after we entered her office but she scoffed when Arthur gave no reply and only continued walking.

"Sit down, please!" I heard the doctor say again and my treatment immediately began.

"When did it start?" She inquired after some series of tests.

"A week ago," I replied simply.

"That's true. Has it been itching you at all or has there been pain?" she asked again and I guess today would be a questioning day for me.

"Sometimes but it's rare. It just feels heavy most times and I will just want to close it but there are times I feel like I see shadows. There are times I see fragments of things which always give me hope that I'm not completely blind," I replied to her, stating everything in detail. I was eager to get my sight back so telling her things that happened to me would be better.

I heard the doctor sigh and it made me nervous,   "With the test I carried out, your eyes should have returned to normal by now and your sight should be back but you're restricting it because of the trauma hidden in you. The picture of whatever happened to you that made you lose your sight is still very vivid in your head and it is stopping you from gaining it back," the doctor explained and before I could say a word, she turned to Arthur, "Arthur, What you have to do for her is help her forget whatever happened so that her sight can return," She added but I couldn't see Arthur's reaction. Did he agree with her or what? Because I know he didn't want anything to do with me.

"Can we leave now or is there anything else?" Arthur asked, his voice still as cold as ever as if he was the ice man himself.

"Nothing. The nurse outside will give you some medicines she has to take every night before sleeping and with that, I'm sure she will regain her sight soon. But, you have to bring her for a checkup every week," The Ophthalmologist concluded and Arthur sprang up immediately.

I cursed under my breath when he grabbed my hand, pulled me up, and led the way out of the office. When we got outside, I heard a nurse talking to him about the medicine and I felt someone pushing a small bag for me to hold. I collected it immediately knowing it was my medicine and I wondered why he couldn't hold it for me.

"Isn't that Arthur? Wow! It's him! He looks so godly just like I heard!" I started to hear voices wailing like this at us. Was Arthur this popular in the hospital?

"Look at his hair and eyes! OMG! I wish he was mine!" Their words somehow vexed me but what could I do? They could see his handsome look and compliment it but I can't.

"Who is that blind girl beside him? Is he volunteering in one of the disabled agencies?"   Geez, this one hit me so hard that I cringed in anger. I rolled my eyes and hissed angrily.

"We are here," Arthur announced again. Does he have anything else to say than that word? Can't he just talk properly? I rolled my eyes again, still tense from the hospital. I don't know why they will have to like him when he's this annoying. Everything is not about looks, it is about character!
