Chapter Five

Austin was already gaming with Brian when Emery finally got to the department. She snuck in without him seeing and went straight over to where Anne was helping another little boy. “Has Molly made it down here yet?” She looked around but didn’t see her red-headed friend anywhere.

Anne shook her head no. “I think her mom was in this morning and they were watching movies today.”

“Okay, that’s cool. She was looking run down, so this will give her time to rest.” Emery glanced at Austin out of the corner of her eye. He was still occupied with Brian. So she was still safe from having to give him an answer just yet.

“Sounds like advice someone else could use.” Anne patted Emery on the hand and went back to helping the little boy with his painting. Emery had looked more exhausted the past couple of weeks than she had in a long time. But, the girl refused to give up anything and seemed like she wanted to take on everything and save the world.
