By the time I found my car keys, I had ended up destroying my room, just to find it in my sister's. Okay, she can take my clothes or my stuff, but NO ONE can touch my baby but me! I walked outside and instantly put my hood up to protect my impending frizzy hair from the rain.
After locking the door, I walked out to my car. It was nothing special, but it was mine.
As I pulled up to The Shack, I could already see the nervous look on her face through the window from where she sat. I got out and locked my car. Sucking in a deep breath, I walked into The Shack and sat down with Chrissie, not bothering to go to the counter to get some ice cream.
"So, how was the rest of your day Chrissie?" I forced a painted smile on my face.
"It was really good. During sixth hour Mrs. Bough partnered me up with Cole, so at least now I know that I don't have to do the project by myself and have some stupid jock take half of the credit. Then, during seventh period, I got a 98% on my test." Her face had a smile of accomplishment on it, and I couldn't help but let a real smile loose on my face.
"Good job! I'm so proud of you." A bowl was set down in front of me. I looked up and saw Jessie walking away. I looked down in the bowl and saw that he had flattened the scoop of ice cream and had written on it with sprinkles. Well, he tried to write on it. It said:
Sorry
I smiled and looked over at him but he was washing a table across the shack. He didn't look up. I looked over at Chris, and she looked confused. I moved the scoop of ice cream to Chris, and she read it. Her face lit up. She smiled and added a wink. I picked up a spoon and took a small bite. It was my favorite, The Reese's Runaway. This made my smile even bigger.
When I was done I walked up to the front counter where Jessie was and handed him the money for it.
"Don't worry about it." I looked up at him.
"No, here." I pushed the money towards him more. He put his hand over mine and pushed it back. "Don't be stubborn. Let me pay, please."
He shook his head. "No, I owe it to you. I never should've gone along with that stupid prank." This time I shook my head.
"You don't owe anything to me. It's not like you killed my family." I smiled and leaned closer whispering, "Don't get any ideas." He smiled, and I lost my breath. This was the first time I had ever seen him smile at me directly. He smirks all the time when we talk, but he never smiles. I set the money in his hand this time.
"Wait, so you're not mad at me?" I shook my head. "Well, why not?"
"Look, it was hurtful, and embarrassing that so many people think that I am actually like that and fed into your prank. But, it doesn't matter to me anymore. I know I'm not like that." He thought about this for a second. "Anyway, thanks for the ice cream, but I have to go." I walked away to see through the window that Chris was already at my car, waiting for me.
"Do you want to watch a movie at your house tonight?" Seems fun, and I didn't really want to face my mom anyway. With Chris over, she would be on her best behavior.
"Sure, hop in. We can stop and rent one on the way back." I unlocked Betsy, my car, and climbed in the driver's seat. The old car has seen better days, but with a little work, and money I don't have, she could be a beauty. From the corner of my eye, I saw Jessie looking this way. He was probably jealous of my baby.
We ended up getting two movies, Zombieland, and She's The Man. I know what you're thinking, those are kind of old.
Yes, they are. But they're also good ones when you need a laugh. We watched Zombie Land first because it is one of my favorite movies. In the middle of She's the Man, we both fell asleep.
"Get your asses up! We need to get to school." I shot up off the couch. Oh my god. We are going to be late! I ignored my sister and leaned over to wake up Chris.
"Chris! Chris, get up. We have to get to school." She opened her eyes and looked at the clock. At the same time, we jumped up off the couch and ran up the stairs into my room. We each took a five-minute shower. I put on a pair of dark skinny jeans and a red tight T-shirt. Chris wore a light pair of my jeans and a purple shirt with a panda on it that she had left here the last time she spent the night.
When we got to school we had to book it to make it into class on time. First hour went by slowly. I yawned about every 5 minutes.
For some reason, I was actually nervous for second hour. The bell rang stopping my train of thought. I got up out of my seat and walked slowly to my locker. As I walked into math, I looked around as I sat down, my eyes landing on the empty seat next to me. Just then, Jessie walked in and sat down two seats away. He caught me looking at him and sent a glared my way.
What did I do this time?
After a very long and confusing class, I went straight to my locker. Every time I caught Jessie staring at me, he would revert back to his usual glare and then look away. It wasn't unusual for him per se, but I thought we had reached an agreement of sorts that we could be civil to one another."So, how did it go?" I jumped back, and my hand flew up to my chest. Air was forced into my lungs at a rapid pace as I looked up to see my best friend standing behind me. I was still a little touchy about going to my locker after the angry mob incident."Jesus, Chrissie! Are you trying to scare me to death?" She was laughing hysterically at my reaction, resulting in a glare from me."Dude! You should have seen your face!" She gasped for air and laughed out the rest, "It was so priceless!" She caught her breath but looked excited."So now tell me what happened. Did you guys talk? Did he flirt with you again?" I shook my head, and her face dropped. "Well, then what ha
"Mom!" I screamed through the front door, "Mom! I'm home!" I looked into the kitchen, but she wasn't there. The text I received from her was nerve-racking. It said, 'Come home immediately after school'. That was never a good thing. It was like when the significant other says, 'We need to talk.'I heard a noise coming from the living room, so I walked that way. She was sitting on the couch, legs crossed, arms folded, and eyes glaring. What did I do now?"Sit!" I did what she said instantly without thinking about it. "Now, I better get a damn good explanation on why one of your teachers called me and told me that you were sent to the principal's office again!" Of course, that stupid teacher just had to tell my mother as payback for me sitting on his couch.I sucked in a deep breath and began speaking without a break or stop. "I was sitting down. This girl, Jessica, walked up to me and told me to move because she wanted my seat, but this guy Jessie stood up and tol
By third hour, I guess that Mr. Streeter hadn't forgiven me yet because he had ignored me and was extremely mean the entire hour. He even used yellow caution tape to tape off his couch. I sat down in my seat ignoring Jessica who was standing on the other side of it. I guess she was planning on sitting here. Oh, well."Move freak!" I sucked in a deep breath remembering what Jessie had said. 'Next time, grow a dick too and stand up for yourself.' I looked up at Jessica."No, I think I'm good. Go find a different seat. I was here first, and I'm staying." I opened up my math book to the unit we were on while I could feel her hard, cold glare. I looked up at her, "Are you having issues walking, or do you not speak English?" I held my breath. I didn't move, I didn't blink, and I didn't want to see her facial expression so I looked back down to my textbook. I heard a giggle come from Chrissie. I turned, and she was looking at Jessica, trying to hold back laughter.I st
"Hey, so do you want to go to my house and hang out?" I looked over at an excited and jumping Chris."Sure, it sounds fun. We should walk. It's really nice out." I looked up at the sky. There was a slight breeze in the air, but it was still warm enough to get away with short sleeve shirts. There were light, fluffy clouds in the sky that left a shallow covering to block a small portion of the sun."Yeah, it really is something." She sounded like she was looking at the love of her life when she said that. I smiled at her, and she looked down at me.We began our walk slowly enjoying the nice white clouds as they started to thicken and get darker."I know life seems shitty sometimes, but I want you to know that I'll always be here for you if you ever need someone to talk to... or backup." She looked at me, and I smiled at her. The corner of my lips twitched as I held back a laugh at the thought of her fighting someone. She would be like a vicious Chihuahua.
I watched my clock go from 8pm to 5:59 am. When the alarm flashed 6:00 a.m. I sniffled holding back more tears. Have you ever cried all night and ended up crying yourself to sleep? Yeah, well this wasn't those times. My pillow was soaked in tears, and my blankets had random wet spots from me tossing and turning, trying to go to sleep while crying. It didn't really work out too well. I muffled another sob into my pillow. Eyes closed or open, I still saw Chris lying in my arms, covered in blood. The sight was burned into my corneas.I guess yesterday, my mom woke up to an empty bed and was pissed about the one-nightstand. She decided to punish me for some random guy leaving her. My punishment was that I had to go to school today even though my best friend had just died! She said she didn't want anyone in the house.I let out another sob at this thought. It was my fault that Chrissie was gone. If I had looked before I crossed the damn street, she woul
When I saw people in front of me I guessed that it was time for third hour. The halls cleared I tried to recover myself, so I could go to class. By missing 1st and 2nd hours, I know my mom will already be getting a call and make my life even worse. It was so not worth it, trust me. I took a last glance at the pictures in her locker before closing it.I didn't bother to grab my book bag from my locker before going to 3rd hour. When I opened the door, the whole class got silent, including the teacher. I took a step in the class and tried to quietly sniffle. It sounded loud like it was echoing off the walls. I looked at my seat expecting to see Jessica, but instead, it was empty. I looked at Chris's seat, but it wasn't empty as I expected. Instead, there was one person stupid enough to be sitting in my best friend's seat.Jessica! No one seemed to realize where and who I was glaring at."Move bitch!" I growled. I noticed the new girl we got in the class flit
His breathing was heavy, and he had a heavy layer of sweat on his forehead, but the light was hitting his back causing his face to shadow. Between that and the tears in my eyes, I couldn't see the emotion in his. I looked back in front of me, wiping the moisture away from my cheeks. He came and sat down on the swing next to me. "Look," I started, "I'm sorry, I elbowed you. I'm sorry I ran, and you had to follow, and I'm sorry that you have to see me crying, but . . . . I really don't want to talk about anything right now, so please don't try to comfort me because I don't want to hear it." He huffed. "Well, you elbow pretty hard, but I'm okay. So, don't apologize. I didn't have to follow you; I wanted to run after you. I don't care if people cry in front of me because everyone cries every once in a while, and I won't try to comfort you if you don't want me to." We swung in silence until I could see through the tears and looked at his face. They didn't
I loved every second of calling Jessie a dick! It was amazing. He deserved it. I saw new girls every day crying over him, it seemed. I wasn't sure if it was something he said or something he did. I had seen him kissing a few girls, but he never really seemed into it. It was more like he was just following along with what was expected of him. He was hanging around his group of friends again but only for a small period each day. He spent the rest of his time alone. After school, I drove home in my baby and walked upstairs into my room, and went straight to my closet. I looked through my dresses. Only having a few, it had taken me a minute to find an appropriate one. I grabbed one of the black ones that went down to my knees. Come to think about it, Chris helped me pick this one out at the store when my mom decided that I needed to own some dresses for her stupid dinner parties. I left my hair alone and grabbed my converse to put them back on. As I walked downst
