"Oh, thank God that you're awake! They said you wouldn't wake up for another week." I reached up and touched his cheek. The muscles in my arm feeling weak.

"You're trying to change the subject." He didn't deny it. Instead, he smiled a heartwarming smile.

"You just woke up in the hospital, and you're still as pushy as ever." He let out a chuckle as he pressed his face deeper into my palm.

"She really didn't come to the trial?" He pulled the chair, so it was right next to my bed.

"No." He let out a deep breath. "Surprisingly, your mother was still alive when the ambulance showed up, but the alcohol she had in her system didn't help her case. It thinned out her blood too much, and they couldn't stop the bleeding. She didn't make it. I'm so sorry Julie. I wish that never happened." He looked up at me again. "You saved your sister's life, you know that?"

I smiled and nodded.

"Where is she?"
