IANNA’S POV
That evening I tried to distract myself from the pain by doing my homework and reading. But that did not help, of course, because when pain and depression hit you, it is hard to just ignore.
The truth is that I was in pain, as much as I don’t blame my mother and my sister for what they doing to me. it doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. It hurts more than anything in this world being hurt by those who were supposed to protect you.
Lissa was my older sister, and she was supposed to care and stand up for me when others bully me. But she is the one who starts the bullying. I don’t want to blame her either, she learned to treat me that way from our dear mother.
She was the one who was supposed to teach Lissa about sister love but instead she taught her how to lie, deceive and hate. Yet, I am the one being called the curse. Sometimes I wonder if she is my real mother.
But then again if she is not then who could my mother be? I did not just appear out of thin air, I was made by people. So, if Lupe is not my mother, then who else could it be?
While I was deep in thought thinking about nothing new really, just wondering about the old things I have always been wondering about. My door was pushed open by force and Lissa appeared.
I sighed feeling a headache coming, if my sister is here then nothing good is going to come out of anything she is here for.
“Listen to me, stay away from my boyfriend. How dare you touch his hand!” there we go, I knew nothing good would come out of her being in my room.
“I didn’t know he was your boyfriend, Lissa.” I tried to explain myself, it’s not like I asked him to help me up, he did that on his own. But I must admit, I liked the help, and I enjoyed having his hand on mine.
I don’t know what it is but feeling his hand against mine made me feel things I never felt before. “You stupid bitch, you are thinking about him now! Why else would you be blushing?”
Oh, darn it! I didn’t mean for her to see me like this. “No Lissa it is not what you think, I swear it is not.” Damnit Ianna, do you want to die? Why would you go thinking about Jeyden in front of lion cub Lissa, stupid, stupid!
“I don’t want to hear it! I swear if I see you with him again or even looking in his direction. I will tell mom, let’s see what you do then.” I shut my mouth and said no more.
The way she was demanding our mother was like she is an only child and treating me like I was just a girl next door taking her toy. “It won’t happen again.” I told her then ignored her and picked up my books and stuffed them into my school bag.
“It better not, you heard the prophecy, I am to be Luna of the pack, Jeyden is to be my mate. I will not let you ruin things for me like you ruin everything else. I am warning you Ianna, back off!”
She said then slammed the door behind her. I sighed feeling defeated. It was not like something happened between Jeyden and I. he only helped me up, that was it.
Since I didn’t eat. I took out my lunch box and ate before going to bed. Tomorrow is another day. But I kept tossing and turning. sleep nowhere to be found. It avoided me till the early hours of the morning.
By the time I woke up the bus was already leaving. I only washed my face and brushed my teeth before rushing out of the house with my bag on my shoulders. “You overslept, huh, that boy you went to must have tired you out.”
My mother’s remark came as I rushed past her and getting out the door running. She never gets tired of insulting me, she always has something knew, painful and insulting to say to me. I wonder where she gets all the insults from.
By the time I got to school the gate was about to be closed. I rushed in and bent down panting and trying to catch my breath. That was close, phew!
The bell rang and I cursed under my breath. “Fuck!” I straightened up and walked to my locker. Fortunately, no one bothered me.
I went to my locker first and placed my bag in there before heading to class. When I got inside, everyone was already there and piled up at the back as usual. I didn’t mind that, I took a seat and sighed. I was tired.
While we were waiting for the teacher to come, another girl I didn’t know came in and took a seat right next to me. this shocked me.
what was she trying to do? Doesn’t she know that no one sits next to me? she must be new. “Hey, new girl, I wouldn’t sit there if I were you.” Luka’s voice came from the back.
the girl ignores him, I wondered what her problem was, what was she planning, was she really new or just another cruel joke being played on me.
while I was still debating that, someone pulled me by my hair from the back. I screamed in pain. What the hell did I do now? “Let me go!” I cried out trying to get her to stop pulling my hair.
“If you wanted me to let you go, you wouldn’t have let the poor girl sit next to you knowing what you are! Is your plan to infect everyone?” great! Now the new girl is going to think I have a disease or something contagious.
“Please, let go of my hair.” I pleaded with her. “You want me to let go? Okay” she did not just let go; she pulled my hair roughly to the back. it was so painful that I thought some of it will be ripped right out of my scalp.
While I was looking at that, she slammed my face down hard on the desk that I got dizzy for a moment. I closed my eyes feeling the pain. The others erupted in laughter. It’s too early for this.
“You are dripping blood all over my desk Ianna, what, are you blind or is it all your evil deeds making you blind and causing you to bleed?
I didn’t even know when the teacher came in or that I was bleeding. The girl offered me a tissue and I took it then thanked her. “What are you still doing here? Get the hell out of my class! Seriously, we will never have luck and our things will never go well because we have you around. If I had my way you wouldn’t be here or even alive.” I heard the last part as I got out the door.
IANNA’S POVI did not go back to class for the rest of the day, I stayed in the bathroom with my thoughts. No one wanted me there anyway; they all resented me for something they had no proof of. It would make their lives easier if I did not exist. So today, I will not exist.I was tired as well and needed a break from all the cruelty. Sitting in that bathroom for hours listening to girls gossip as they came in and out. I was the main subject of their gossip of course and the new girl no one knew.Pamela the girl who made me bleed was worried that the new girl might snatch Luka away from her. She did not like the way Luka was looking at her. I wonder why she would blame the poor girl and not Luka who was looking at her.Just before lunch time, I left the bathroom. I knew it was going to be filled with students and I will no longer have the peace I had. I left and went to sit on the football field. I was hungry but I woke up late and did not pack any lunch.“You are a difficult girl to
IANNA’S POVIn class Christina and I shocked everyone when we got back together. Sat together, talking and laughing. The last class was enjoyable and for the first time since I started school. It wasn’t all that bad. After school Christina and I waited for her driver to pick her up then I rushed to the woods. I shifted into my wolf form and went for a run. I ran and ran then when I was tired. I went and wore my clothes then walked home.I knew my mother was going to be angry and scold me, but I didn’t care. I was happy and nothing she could say to me today will take that away from me. “Keep it that way Ianna and all will be alright.” I stopped in my tracks and smiled hearing my wolf.“Hello Sandra, its good to hear from you today.” She chuckled. “Oh, I could not possibly intrude, you were having so much fun with your new friend.” I smiled. “Can you believe it, someone wants to be my friend, she did not care about all the things they said to me. She even stood up for me with Lissa.”I
IANNA’S POVMy heart broke when I saw that, I never meant to make her cry, Goddess, she has been good to me and yet now she was starting the day with tears because of me. “Oh, Ianna, I don’t know how you do it, you are so strong my friend. I don’t think I can bear any of this.”I sighed. “I bear it because I am used to it, now, let’s go to class.” She helped me fix myself and then we walked to class. When we walked in the teacher stopped and all eyes were on us.“It’s not even a week and already you are getting Christina into trouble Ianna. What exactly do you want to see happen before you understand that your presence in other’s lives is nothing but a curse?” Mrs. Laurence said. Before I could answer Christina answered first. “She did nothing wrong mam, I was the one who was feeling unwell, and she was only helping me.” Mrs. Laurence gestured for us to sit while saying under her breath. “She will be the end of you if you are not careful.”I heard her and so did Christina, but we said
IANNA’S POV“It’s time to go now, my friend.” Christina said looking breath taking in her nude dress. It sat perfectly on her curves and blended perfectly with her skin tone. “You look beautiful Christina.” She smiled at me.We walked out of my room and down the stairs. My mother was the first person to see us coming from the front door. Maybe she just sent Lissa off. “Well, I hope you know what you are doing borrowing this girl your clothes.” She looks me up and down.“Dressing up a pig will not stop it from being a pig. Remember when you lay with dogs you get up with fleas.” What she meant was that I was like a flea who transmits disease through my bite including plague. In plain English my mother was calling me a plague that was going to infect my friend if she was not careful. “Sometimes pigs and dogs are useful.” Christina said then pulled me by my arm out of the house. She then turned to me. “Please tell me that is not your mother.” I sighed. “She is my mother, but don’t blame h
IANNA’S POV“We can leave if you no longer feel like staying.” Christina my good friend said. “No, we came here to have fun and not find mates who don’t know what they want. So, let’s go have fun.” She gave the widest smile ever and I smiled back. She took my hand, and we walked back to the bonfire. There were many others around the fire laughing, talking, and drinking. I smiled feeling like I could have fun after all and forget about what happened with Jeyden. What matters is that he did not reject me, maybe because he was with Lissa that he could not say anything. We still had time. We went and stood by the others but just as we were starting to get comfortable Lissa yelled.“Ianna, why are you still here?” At that moment, the fire suddenly went out and it was pitch black. At this point, the others started to complain, "Sure enough, Ianna you are such a disaster! Such bad luck who can even put out fires just by appearing, what a devil."I was devastated and couldn't take the humilia
IANNA’POVWell, for starters, no one knew where I was, not that my mother or sister would care. But Christina would, she would not leave that party without knowing where I went. I don’t want her to worry and blame herself for bringing me to the party.“I have a friend who is waiting for me back at the party, she will be worried if I don’t show up soon. I left without telling her anything because I wanted to be alone for a while.” He nodded.“Let’s go then but I hope to see your again tomorrow with your training clothes.” I nodded looking away from him. Damn it, I think I should stay away from men, its quite clear that I cannot handle being around them.“Pay attention now, I don’t want you getting lost and not finding this place when you want to come back.” he was right, I started looking around as we walked and taking note of everything. When we got close, I saw thick black smoke and I knew we have arrived. He stopped walking, “I think you can find your way from here.” I nodded “I can
IANNA’S POV I struggled getting up from the ground and wiped the corners of my mouth that were bleeding. I looked at my mother and I only saw hatred in her eyes. It hurt to see that; I should be used to it by now, but I am not.Every child out there longs for the love of a parent which I never got; every time I wish my mother could show me some resemblance of love but each time she never does.“Mom, I never asked to be mated to Jeyden…” she cut me short so rudely. “What do you know about mates, huh? You think the Moon Goddess would bless someone like you with a good mate like the alpha’s son? How delusional.”Well, I guess she was right, Lissa was the good one, the one who deserves all the good things, and I don’t deserve anything. “You will stay away from Jeyden, and you will not tell anyone he is your mate.”What good will it do to stay away from him? The mate bond is already there, and it will keep pulling us together, what do I do then?“Mother, what do I do if…” she cuts me shor
AEGEN’S POV“This person is supposed to be my protector and be by my side at all times. But Aegen is always away from this palace, and no one knows where he goes. I would not be surprised if he is working with our enemies to bring me down.” I heard my brother the crowned prince says.“Big brother, don’t you think you are being too harsh? Aegen has always been there for you when you need him. He never complains about anything. Doesn’t he deserve to have a life of his own?” My little sister defended me, and I love her for that. but it never ends well.“Christina, you should be focusing on finding your mate or better yet, choose one from a good kingdom so that we can make a good alliance for the good of the kingdom and leave your brother be. If you follow on Aegen’s footsteps you will end up with nothing, like him.” My father said.I walked in and took my seat by my brother’s side as his protector. “Good morning,” I greeted and dished myself breakfast. “Where have you been?” father asked
