Chapter 6: Seraphina

Seraphina POV

Alarms blared throughout the office and the surrounding buildings. I shifted into my black as the night-colored wolf and let Alya take control.

‘Where are you?!” My father’s booming voice came into my head. ‘Leaving Julien’s office now, need to get women and children into the chambers.’ The chambers were a cluster of underground tunnels that led to panic rooms in the event of an attack. Something terrible had to have happened if we hadn’t gotten a warning before we were already under attack.

‘Make sure you stay with them!’ My father ordered.

‘You know I won’t do that Dad.’

I blocked out his response as a mangy wolf started to run toward a mother and her two young children. I jumped and shifted into my black wolf form. The tearing of fabric echoed in my ears as all my limbs shifted into fur-covered legs.

I wrapped my mouth around the opposing wolf's neck to reach it before it could reach its target. The crack of bone was the telltale sign that I had successfully eliminated my target.

I dropped the wolf from my mouth and looked at the mother holding her two crying children. I nodded to the door that would lead them to safety.

“Thank you Sera,” The mother said shakily. I gave her a quick nod again before running towards the sounds of howls. I ran through a small wooded area before reaching a cliff’s edge. I needed to see from a higher vantage point, how royally fucked we were.

I internally cursed when I saw the blood bath of my pack land below. A mix of rogue wolves, accompanied by Nordic Pack wolves were decimating our warriors.

‘Tell me you are safe Seraphina,” Came the last voice I thought I’d hear.

‘I am, dad.’

‘Get to the chambers.’ He ordered. What was up with the closest men telling me what to do? I was one of the best fighters and the Alpha’s daughter. I wouldn’t back down when my pack was under attack.

‘Focus on yourself and stay alive!’ I retorted before shutting him out of my head.

‘Men,’ Both Alya and I said at the same time.

After surveying the area, I returned to the closest entryways to the safety chambers.

I winced and tried to hold back my cry of agony when I felt the tethers to pack members break. I knew something awful had happened when I felt my father’s tether waver.

‘DAD!’ I yelled through the mind link.

I was met with radio silence. Once I knew the women and children were secure, I ran back to the cliff I overlooked before to see where my father was. The ground below was littered with limbs, blood, mud, and the injured. As soon as I located him I let out a growl that echoed through the valley below and the sky above. My father was shifted back into his human form and in the fetal position as four protected all around him.

A growl sounded from behind me, putting Alya and me on alert. As I turned around, I noticed five tri-colored wolves with matted fur slowly stalking toward me.

A panicked scream echoed in the forest. When I looked up a young woman holding a baby bundled in a light blue blanket, stood in terror at the sight of me killing the enemy. ‘Allister! Send some warriors to the Eastern border. There’s a woman here with a baby.’ I didn’t recognize the woman which alarmed me even more considering I knew everyone in the pack.

‘Get out of the there Seraphina!’

‘Send warriors now, Allister!’ The faint sound of howls in the distance let me know that help was on the way. ‘I have to get these rogues away from them.’ I took in my wooded surroundings as I calculated a plan.

The woman stood frozen in place with the bundle in her arms. I slowly made my way in between the enemy wolves and the woman with the child. The rogues followed my movements with calculating eyes. I briefly wondered how these rogues came to be what they were. Rogues tended to lose their sanity the longer they were without a pack. It was unusual to see them working together in a fight.

I lowered my front side closer to the ground to prepare myself for the fight coming my way. I growled and bared my teeth to the wolves stalking towards me.

I lunged at the closest tri-colored wolf and wrapped my jaw around it’s fragile neck. The taste of blood and rot coated my tongue, made me gag.

When I looked up from the corpse I noticed the woman and baby were gone. I felt relief for a split second, before the realization that help was not on its way and I was getting cornered.

‘Allister! Please tell me you sent help!’

Radio silence.

‘Allister!’ I tried several more times to get Allister to respond but was met with zero results. I tried to calm my racing heart. However as the wolves drew closer, I knew my demise was near.

I was surrounded with nowhere to go. The most mangy of the rogues prepared to lunge at me when a booming voice yelled, “THAT’S ENOUGH!” When I looked up I couldn’t believe my eyes. What was HE doing here?
