Leah’s POV
I shove all thoughts of betrayal and hate to the back of my mind. ‘Innocent until proven guilty’ is all that keeps playing in my head and that will be my mantra until I know what happened or who happened to Jason.
My hands are flying over my keyboard frantically looking for anything in the surveillance programming. Damien is next to me trying to be supportive, but he has no idea what I am doing. I have tried giving him other jobs inside the war room, but he’s not having it. He is taking the Goddess’ direction to not separate until he can mark me at the full moon very seriously. He has been fielding questions from people though, which has allowed me to stay on track with my task.
Jason and I talked a lot about codes and code breaking, it was
Renee’s POV I know this isn’t my fault, this, so far, is all Max’s fault. I have been watching him corrupt this whole alliance for years and he has been taking Taylor down with him. I want my mate back, even at the cost of Max’s life. I can’t sit by anymore. I know Taylor is a good man, but he only shows me who he truly is behind closed doors. “Taylor, where are you? Everything is all messed up and I have taken shelter with a bunch of the young alphas.” “We’re getting ready sweetheart. I’m glad you found somewhere safe to be. Stay there for now, I don’t want anything to happen to you.” “Are you with your dad and Trent at the packhouse?”
[Rewind 4 years ago: Blake Lake Rogue Territory]ReneeI screamed, my brain could do nothing else. An arm went around my waist and another around my shoulders. I tried to struggle, but I was never a great fighter and Taylor always said he would be around to protect me. In a moment, I understood what Leah and her friends were up to. It was never about being stronger than the men, it was about being strong without them.I could hear a scuffle to my left and I knew Leah was putting up a fight.“Just grab her, it shouldn’t be that difficult.” One rogue said behind me“You never said they knew how to defend themselves.” Another
[Rewind Continued]Renee“What happens if they don’t bargain for these two?” A gruff, worried voice asks.“They will, they take their alpha females very seriously from what I have gathered. Listening to the leaders of the packs, the alpha females are used as breeders to make higher level warriors.” A deeper, more assertive voice says.“Shouldn’t we at least tie them up or restrain them somehow? I don’t think I can fight an alpha, even with the silver bracelets on.” The worried guy asks.“Nah. They restrict these females so the only thing they are good for is breeding. They can’t even think
[Rewind Continued]We continued talking via dirt writing the rest of the day or night, whatever it was. I lost track of time and the thick material of the tent blocked out all extra light from outside. I thought I was aware of Leah’s abilities, but I sorely underestimated her. She has been on a journey of discovery all her own and picked up many skills along the way. I make mental notes of things I really want to know when we get out of this. Like she seems to radiate heat all of the time, but has this innate quality to control it. As wolves we generally run warmer, but she was able to warm my hands at will. I also noticed when she was holding my hands that my silver bracelets would feel like they were buzzing. It was a very strange feeling. She was also able to look and analyze our surroundings more quickly than I have ever seen a male alpha. Sh
[Present] Leah POV I snap my fingers in Renee’s face. “Hey, are you still with us?” “Umm, yeah, sorry. Just a déjà vu moment.” I looked her in the eyes, she’s been a little distant since we all came out of the dream or whatever that was with the moon goddess and the witch mother. “Are you sure you’re okay? We’ve had a lot of bombs dropped on us in the last few days. It’s completely reasonable if you’re not okay. Just let us know so we can help, alright.” She nods her head at me. “I just need to see Taylor, being this far away from him for this long is becoming painful and distracting.” I
Leah POV “What the hell?!” Damien was the first to recover and speak. “How did you do that? The moon hasn’t risen yet.” He looks wary, but also has not let go of JEssica’s hand either. “Selene told us the other night. I needed to know to get through losing Jason and prepare for this war. She knew that the two of you would be fine waiting until the day of the full moon, but must have thought now was a good time to reveal you to each other.” It’s the only explanation. Trent would never have let me go without his true mate by his side. Now he knows what he will miss out on if he tries to keep me bound to him. “Don’t you see? Now you need to let me go, and Jess needs to let Damien go. We need to be with the people who were designed to make us whole. I know you feel it, please don’t fight this anymore. I really do care about you, but we need to set th
Elyse POVLeah grabbed me and spun me so fast I had no idea what was going on. I was definitely unstable and was prepared to fall face first into the ground, but big warm hands found me instead and tingles ran from the place where the hands were holding me on my upper arms. I was caught in a tangle of limbs apologizing as I tried to right myself and step back from my savior, but I seemed to have lost some of my coordination with the contact.“Woah, stop fighting me, would ya?”I froze, no. way. I know this voice, I have been around this voice my whole life. I have always thought he was handsome, but he’s younger than me so it was never in more than a brotherly way. There are only so many guys that we hang out with because of the whole rank stigmas, but he’s not even 20
Leah POV “Our packs have lived in peace for as long as I can remember. We have never had an attack of this magnitude, we have also never had a friendly non-pack population,” He gives me a side look like the term is still foreign in his mouth. “We are all truly grateful for everyone who has stood up to fight and protect our packs regardless of member status. We want to celebrate all the lives lost, but I don’t think I am the right person to do that. As we mentioned before our packs have begun a new path and those of us in leadership have been too blind to see the change. Our successors have been smart enough to bring us into this change and were able to keep casualties to a minimum. I believe it is they who should lead our celebration of life.” He stops and turns to me and my friends. “This is your show now.” My eyes go wide and m
