"I park the car in the mansion's vast garage and hurriedly walk inside, shrugging. If the butler hasn't spilled the beans, D’Angelo probably isn't even aware of my departure, making it seem like I never really left. And you know what? I don't care if he knows or not. The fact is, Mr. D’Angelo doesn't care about me. To him, I'm just part of this stupid décor, just another trophy in his collection. I swing open the living room door, ready to climb the stairs for a long shower, but I halt in the center of the room when I see him in his expensive, elegant suit, his back turned to me. D’Angelo slowly turns and stares at me as if he could kill me with just a glance. I take a deep breath, subtly take two steps forward, this time without any rush.

"Where were you, Evy?" He growls coldly. My eyes drop to the whiskey glass in his hand, then rise to his irritated eyes.

"I went to visit my mother." A subtle smirk appears at the corner of his mouth, and I assure you, it's not humorous.
