"Who made lunch?" I ask smelling something cooking in the kitchen.
Ever since the mate bond hit me, I have felt connected to Eric on such a deep level that I have never felt with anyone else before. In a way it is wonderful, but in another it makes me weak and I know this now. Being alpha's mate makes you stronger, but it also subjects you to being scrutinized by everyone.
Never feeling good enough, I sit back and watch others in the pack and the way they react to me. Most of them treat me like they did before the bond, but there are some who are always watching everything I do and I hear their whispers when I'm not looking. Especially those closest to Eric it seems.
Perhaps if I had been older, they wouldn't have minded so much, but as it is all I ever hear is a constant chatter of she is so inexperienced, young and she doesn't have a clue how to be a leader of a pack. They wonder why me and I often wo
"Raven, you are pregnant." The doctor announces with excitement in his voice. Shocked, I stand there not knowing what to say. The only time this could have happened was when we first met and I went into heat. For us, the only time we are fertile is when we are in heat and only with our bonded mate's. Realizing this is a horrible time to be pregnant, I don't quite know how Eric is going to feel about this when I tell him. He could take it one of two ways, either tear my throat out or be the happiest man alive. I won't know which one until I tell him though, unfortunately. "Is it safe to change form or fight pregnant?" I ask concerned, because I know full well that it will be necessary some time in the near future to do one or both. He looks at me hesitant and answers cautiously, "Honestly you shouldn't, but we both know that you will have to. Just try to stay out of harms way. After all,
"Are you comfy, Raven?" Ryder asks, looking extremely concerned for my well being. "Yes, you are spoiling me. I will have to tell Eric when I get back, that you treat me better than he ever has." I say with a mischievious grin. Playing the two brothers on each other might be fun. After all, Ryder is treating me as if I am his mate. I could get used to this attention from two men. Laughing, I am just kidding myself, because I know full well that I am so in love with Eric I could never cheat on him, even with his twin brother who looks just like him. Ryder is the more passionate and caring one, but Eric is my total Alpha male. He is strong, confident, egotistical, possessive and intelligent. If I had the two combined, it would make the most perfect male I could have ever imagined. So when I sit here and stare at Ryder wishing Eric was more passionate and caring, I also would wish that Ryder was more co
"Help me, please?" I hear out of nowhere and a lot of screaming. I smell fire and realize too late that the house just down the way is on fire after I look out the window. Not knowing what to do, I jump out of bed and leave the security of my bedroom. Searching the house, I can't find Ryder or anyone else and hope that they are already there. Running for it, I manage to get there in a matter of seconds and notice that it is eerily quiet except for the raging roar of the fire. No one else is here and when I search around, I see no evidence of anyone ever being here. Where is everyone? The screaming I previously heard is gone too, but replaced with a strange humming sound in my head, as if someone is purposely blocking my senses. Turning around to find Ryder, I feel a pain surge throughout my head and hear a thud. Waking up, I find myself back in bed and not knowing what has just happened. How did I ge
"Get out of the way." Ryder yells at me as he rams the front door before entering to try and save anyone in the house. As soon as he breaks it open he runs in, head down and with his shirt pulled over him so the fire doesn't burn him too badly. Now I get it, the scene in front of me is the exact same one as in my dream/premonition. I stand helpless, while I wait for him to emerge from the burning house. I don't see him immediately, but in a few minutes when I think for sure that he's dead, he comes barrelling out of the building with two pups over his shoulders. He drops them at my feet and runs back in. A minute later, there is a back draft and the windows blow out of the house. Crying, I look on as Ryder runs back out carrying the mother and father, but I can tell that at least the mother isn't going to make it. Her body is badly burned and the father is unconscious to say the least. With the two pups la
"Get down." Ryder says, as he fends off a rogue right before he claws me in the stomach. Somehow they must have found out that I am pregnant with Eric's pups and now they are desperately trying to get rid of all of us. I hear Ryder growl as he changes into his wolf and looks beautiful in the moonlight. The white fur has a hint of black in it and when the moonlight shines on it, I could swear I see silver. Hearing fangs on bone, crunching and gnashing, I try my best to stay out of the way. In the end, my wolf takes over and I start to change form. A rogue attacks me and before Ryder can stop her, she connects with my stomach. I curl up defensively and land on my side, even in my wolf form I am painfully aware of the pups inside. Hoping for the best, I wait it out and in a few minutes, the attack is over. Eventually changing back, Ryder picks me up and takes me over to the doctor's house. He yells out
"Wake up." I hear far off in the distance as I open my eyes and see a bright light on me. Trying to stay awake, I force my eyes to keep open and stare at the wall so the light doesn't cause me to go blind. "Doc. Can you move the light over a little, it's right in my eyes?" I ask almost as a whisper because I seem to have absolutely no strength left in me. He reaches up and moves it so the light is just over a little, but he still can see while he is operating on me. Quickly glancing down, I see that he has my stomach open and he is desperately trying to save my pups lives. He says, "Now that you are awake, I can tell you what is going on. First of all, the reason why you don't feel anything is because I had to give you a spinal tap. This way I can work on you and the babies while you are conscious. Now the most important reason why you have to be conscious is, Ryder told me you can hear them in
"It's lunch time." Cindy says excitedly as she brings in my food. All the aromas mixed together smell delicious and my stomach starts to growl. "Apparently, you were just on time. My stomach is protesting and growling." I laugh and Cindy winks at me. "Thank you, this looks delicious. I hope everyone else is having such a wonderful lunch?" I ask her politely. She answers, "Nope. You need your strength, so I whipped up something special just for you. Everyone else is having soup for lunch." "Oh, well thank you. I hope you have a good day today." I respond thoughtfully, before she nods and leaves to go make soup for the pups. When I open the container, my mouth instantly waters. I look down and notice that she has made me pot roast with mashed potatoes and beef gravy. Steamed carrots and peas, with a glass of milk on the side. Appreciating everyt
"Shit! Get down." I hear Eric yell as I fall to the floor trying to escape the bullets. The stench of Wolf's Bane perforates the air and my eye's start to sting. The next thing I know, I am laying flat on my back and there are rogues standing over me with shotguns in their hands. Scared, I find myself wondering something. This is very strange, because our kind don't usually use guns. We prefer to hunt and attack in beast form, not use human devices. So why is it that these rogues are weaponized? When I try to move, I realize that I can't and look down to see my arms and legs handcuffed to the legs of the bed. Turning my head, I glare at the rogue in the corner and he quickly comes over and hits me with the butt of his gun, knocking me back out. Coming to, I smell smoke and open my eyes to see the house burning around me. I work at freeing myself and slip the cuffs off of me, standing up I look
