Nathan
“Rachel, Misty is having one of her assistants come up to get these. Please give them to her when she arrives. I’m going out for a couple of hours. Take my messages.” I throw her a wink and a smile.
“Yes, sir.” The smile she gives me is polite, but unfriendly. I don’t blame her. I still haven’t called her back, or given her any attention after we hooked up this weekend. I know I need to stop sleeping around with my assistants, but the pain of losing Nicole is still there. Drinking and women seem to numb it, if only for a while. Rachel will get over it, or quit. They all do eventually.
I make my way to the elevator and check my watch. I have just enough time to make it to my meeting with Derek over brunch, and back before my next appointment.
The doors open and an unfamiliar aroma fills the air -- vanilla mixed with a little honey. My wolf immediately starts going crazy in my head. It’s an all too familiar sense, but surely it can’t be happening again. It only happens once in your life.
I’m forced out of my head when a young woman walks straight into my chest. My breath hitches in my throat as electricity pulses through my body.
“Ooh! What was that?” She felt it too, but doesn’t seem to understand it’s meaning. Strange. I cock my head to the side in confusion.
“I’m so sorry, where is my head this morning?” She puts her phone away before looking up.
When she meets my gaze, my wolf immediately begins panting in my head at her beauty. Her eyes are the most gorgeous shade of hazel I’ve ever seen. They rival even Nicole’s baby blues. What the hell is happening?
“Oh, Mr. Daniels! I do apologize, sir!” Her voice is trembling from her nerves, which makes me chuckle.
“No harm done. Let’s watch where we’re going Miss...?” I have to know her name.
“Moss, sir. Savannah Moss.” Her name matches her beauty and rolls off her tongue. My pain, which always feels like a heavy coat, suddenly feels like it’s lifting off my shoulders.
“Very well, Savannah. It’s fine.” Saying her name causes my heart to skip a beat and my wolf calls out in my head the words I thought I would never hear again.
“Mate.”
“There’s no way. How?” I ask my wolf, Nico.
"The Goddess must have sent us a second chance mate, but I don’t smell or sense a wolf in her. She is a human? How can that be?”
My wolf seems just as confused as I am, but I don’t have time to worry about that now. My mate, my second chance mate, is standing in front of me. She’s stunning, smells divine and is all mine.
“Uh, Mr. Daniels? I’m sorry sir, but Misty said there are a few things that your assistant Rachel has for me? I came up to grab them for her.” She seems uneasy and it takes me a minute to realize that I’m just standing here like an idiot, zoning out.
Hearing Savannah say the names of the girls I’ve been with stings. I can only hope she hasn’t heard about my rendezvous with most of my assistants.
“Yes, I apologize. She’s right over there. I must get going, but it was very nice to meet you Miss. Moss.” I place my hand out in front of me for her to shake, in hopes of merely touching her again.
“Thank you sir, it was nice to meet you as well.” She places her hand in mine and sparks rush through my arm. Savannah immediately yanks her hand back, grasping it in her free fingers.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what’s happening to me today. I must have picked up a ton of static electricity or something. Have a good day Mr. Daniels.” She laughs awkwardly, which makes me smile.
Her cheeks blush and confusion is written across her face. She steps around me and walks over to Rachel’s desk. I can’t help but follow her with my eyes. She’s curvier than most of the women who work for me, but in all the right places. The way her hips sway side to side with the clicks of her heels entrances me.
When she makes it to the desk, my eyes land on Rachel, who currently looks very displeased at my reaction to the newcomer on the top floor.
I ignore her, and turn on my heel to walk into the elevator. When the doors close I release the breath I have been holding in since Savannah walked away. Leaning against the back wall, I adjust my tie and check my watch again.
“Derek, are you at the restaurant yet?" I mind link him.
"Yes, are you running late?”
“Something has come up, we’ll have to reschedule for later today. After work. Same place, but for dinner.”
“Anything you need me to do?”
"Not sure yet, I’ll fill you in tonight.”
“Ok, I’ll make the reservations.”
The elevator doors part, and I stride over to the receptionist’s desk, leaning onto it with my elbow.
“Hello ladies, I would like for you to get me all of the information we have on Savannah Moss. She works for Misty up in men’s.” I flash them a wink and a smile.
“Yes Mr. Daniels, of course!” The young girls working behind the counter both blush and scurry to the filing cabinet to find her files.
When they find and hand them to me I simply nod my thanks and make my way back to the elevators. I’m lost in thought while it moves up through the floors.
I have heard of second chance mates before. It’s not common, but does happen. However, I’ve never heard of a human being a wolf’s mate. I need to be careful at how I proceed with Savannah. That is of course, if I can even convince her to give me a shot.
“We will need to claim her as ours Nathan, but I’m not sure if she will have a dormant wolf or not.”
“I understand that Nico, but I can’t just claim a human who knows nothing of our existence. Also, I don’t care if she has a wolf or not. I want to be with her regardless. She has already started taking my pain away, and we’ve only spoken a few words and barely touched.”
Nico blocks me out after that, but I’m not about to lie to him. When I finally make it to the top floor and the doors open I can still smell her lingering scent. It’s more intoxicating than any of the whiskey or women I’ve tried to drown my sadness in.
I ignore Rachel and her glare as I walk into my office, closing the door and blinds.
I read over the files on Savannah for the rest of my morning and through my lunch hour. I don’t care that I haven’t eaten since this morning. I will find out everything I can about her and win her heart. I just hope she can look past my rough last year.
Oh, and the part about me being half wolf.
Savannah“Ok girl, dish it. What happened?” Jade is staring at me like I have two heads.I sit back down at my desk and puff up my cheeks before blowing the air out and looking at her.
Nathan“Ok, do you want to explain what that was?” Derek looks at me and furrows his brow.“Alright, well. Savannah works in my building, under Misty. This mor-”
SavannahI wake up to the awful sound of my phone vibrating off of my side table before it hits the floor, ruining my dream. I groan loudly and Louis swats at my face in annoyance. Neither of us like waking up before noon on Saturdays, and I definitely don't like being woken up when I'm having a great dream . I just giggle and pull him into my chest, but he quickly squirms out of my hold and jumps off the bed.
SavannahI look at Jade, who is now quite involved with the guy she is dancing with. She’s definitely going to regret that in the morning. I laugh at her and take a sip of my drink.I feel hands slip around my waist from behind, and I smile at the strange sensation that is now envelop
Nathan“Alright listen to me. You’ve got to stop all of this. I’m your Beta, and your best friend. You know I have your back and will follow any orders you give me, but I can’t just sit back and watch you self-destruct anymore.” Derek is giving me yet another fatherly talk in the back of the town car, on the way to our pack house.
SavannahWe’ve been at the bar for about an hour, the drinks flowing freely. It helps to be young and female in the city. Honestly, I’ve probably had one too many, and the crowded room is starting to spin in a way I can’t keep up with. Jade’s cheeks are flushed, and I know she must be just as drunk as I am. But my blurry eyes and foggy head still aren’t enough to stop thinking about Nathan. My head can’t keep up and all the sudden I’m outside, l
NathanI grab my clothes and throw them back on, ignoring Tiffani’s whines. I walk over to my closet, grab a plain T-shirt and throw it at her.“Get dressed, Tiffani, and get out,” I snarl at her.
Nathan“Michael, she’s a human. You can’t call me Alpha.” I mind-link him, so Savannah can’t hear me.“A human? I knew she smelt off,” He can’t contain his distaste, to which I let out a growl. “I apologize, sir. It won’t happen ag
