Five Years Later

Five years later.

Ashley had just arrived at the Anina Airport. With her chestnut hair hung over shoulders, the woman in a beige long coat and high-heels looked at the strange yet familiar clouds in the sky while holding her suitcase.

She was only 20 when she left. Now that she came back, she was already 25. Her previous baby face, however, had grown mature and more beautiful with time.

A four-year-old boy in a formal suit could be seen accompanying her. Judged by his stern little face, one could assume he would become a handsome man in the future.

Pursing his thin lips, he followed closely behind Ashley as she walked.

"Alex, Ash!" A woman suddenly rushed over and hugged Ashley.

At the sight of her old best friend, Audrey, Ashley held her back.

Releasing her friend, Audrey couldn't wait to lower her head to look at Alex. She then releasing her friend, Audrey couldn't wait to lower her head to look at Alex. She then said in astonishment, " Ash, your boy is even more handsome in person than in the video!"

"Of course. He's my son, after all, " Ashley answered with a smile

"Or it's his father's genes that makes him this handsome" Audrey replied with a grin on her face with one corner of her lips lifted

"Ohh, you might be right" Ashley shrugged

Audrey scoffed and turned her attention to Alex

"Good to see you, Godmother." Alex looked up at Audrey and greeted her politely before resuming his cold demeanor.

Audrey gave him a thumbs-up and said, "Nice! Keep up with the little CEO's attitude!"

Alex smiled briefly in response, and then once again, his poker face was back on.

Audrey couldn't help but shake her head, feeling sorry for her friend. Ashley should have had twins, but unfortunately, the other baby was born with an illness and didn't make it. If only that child had survived..

With a smile, Ashley couldn't help but remember Levi's face every time she looked at her son. At such a young age, Alex already resembled his father a lot, even in his manners.

"However, the man was just a driver for the Stone family, not a CEO, or is he a CEO pretending to be a driver because of the situation she met him" Ashley thought

"No, though he has the physique and the aura; that doesn't make him one moreover he already confirmed that he is a driver" she thought again

Wanting to give the mother and son a nice reception, Audrey took them to a buffet restaurant.

She drove them in her sport car to the restaurant which is just 15 minutes drive from the Airport

Since Alex was wise enough to pick up his food by himself, Ashley didn't have to accompany the boy.

As soon as Audrey sat at the table, she whispered to her friend, "Are you really going to give the child back to his father?

"I have no choice" Then she raised her voice and added, "As his father, he's the most suitable person to take care of Alex until he grows up. I don't have much time left"

"Is there really no cure for your disease?" Audrey asked worriedly.

"I have advanced gastric cancer and only have a year left; as the Doctor told me. I don't want to waste time on useless treatments. I'll try my best to earn as much money as possible this year so that father and son can live happily for the rest of their lives"

A faint smile appeared on the corner of her lips as if for a brief moment, she had forgotten the sadness her condition brought her.Although she seemed calm on the surface, no one knew the pain she had been carrying inside for so long.

For an instant, Audrey didn't know what to say, so she silently put a bowl of porridge in front of her before speaking again. "It's okay Ash. I know everything would turn out well."

Audrey continued "I had sent him the divorce agreement as you said back then. I don't know if he is married or not nowadays.."

"That's why I want you to help me take care of Alex for the next few days. I need to find out more about him. If he has remarried or has a child, I won't disturb him anymore."

"But if he doesn't have anyone and is willing to take responsibility for our son, I still need to make sure he's not a terrible man. After all, Alex will have to live with him for so many years."

Before she came back, Ashley had already thought about everything. "Of course, leave Alex to me. I don't have a

job now anyway, so I have plenty of time" Audrey assured her and then handed her a bunch of keys. "I've bought the house you asked for."

"Ohh, you're such a lifesaver and an angel" Ashley said and continued "I thought I won't be able to get a very good apartment because of the time frame"

"I was also suprised when the agent contacted me that there are some apartments available and that I should come and check it out" Audrey pointed out

"Wow, that's so nice of the agent. I'm so grateful" Ashley replied

"Mom, I want to use the restroom" a babish but firm voice was heard

"Let mom take you"............. "Let Godmother take you" both Ashley and Audrey responded at the same time

The both of looked at each other and burst in laughter. "Audrey take him to the restroom. You're just meeting your godson today, I should create opportunities for you to relate well with each other" Ashley said and turned to her son "Let your godmother take you."

"Alright mom" Alex said and looked up to Audrey "Godma let's go"

Together both Audrey and Alex left for the restroom hand in hand.

It should be highlighted that Ashley was actually misdiagnosed with advanced gastric cancer.
