I came out of the car moving as fast as my legs could carry me as soon as we pulled over in front of the penthouse at exactly four o'clock in the afternoon.

The day was over so I had ditched the heels that hurt my toes so badly. I ran barefoot with my heels in one hand and my purse in the other, pushing the doors open as I heard the beep.

It was straight to Xander's bedroom. I knocked with so much enthusiasm multiple times in a row.

He opened the door and there he was, with nothing but loose gray sweatpants. The gasp escaped before I could stop it but not loud enough for him to hear.

“Can I come in?” I asked, smiling.

“Sure,” he said, walking in and leaving the door ajar. Rest assured that he didn't return the smile.

“I have big news!” I exclaimed.

I saw his eyes widen in anticipation and I wondered why he was so excited to hear the news since he was always indifferent.
