The Palace

Drake

I stood in the middle of the palace's opulent sitting room, my fists clenched at my sides, my chest heaving with the effort of holding back my rage.

“Jake,” I bellowed, my voice echoing off the high ceilings. “Show yourself!” The only response was the sound of my voice, mocking me with its futility.

Jake appeared in the doorway, his eyes bleary with sleep, a tousled mess of dark hair falling over his forehead. His usual charming smile began to form on his lips, but it froze when he saw the anger burning in my eyes.

“What's the matter?” he asked, his voice soft with concern, but I could hear the unease beneath the surface.

“Where is Cindy?” I demanded, my voice cracking with anger.

“Why are you so concerned with her?” he asked, his eyes now fixed on me. I could see the apprehension in his face, but I ignored it.

“I just want to know where she is,” I insisted, my voice rising.

“She no longer lives in the pack,” he said, his tone firm and uncompromising.
