Chapter 17

The caller ID on the phone screen was Elias!

It was so early in the morning, why did he call?

Jeanette rejected the call coldly and crawled back into the blanket to go back to sleep. She could feel warmth from the hand that was on her waist. She was stunned for a moment, and then she remembered what had happened last night.

Damon had slept through the night holding her.

Jeanette could feel a warm, tingling surge through her heart, and she could not help but curl her lips. She turned over carefully to look at Damon’s sleeping face quietly.

However, her phone started ringing again. Damon was still sound asleep, but he frowned. It looked like he was about to wake up.

Jeanette hurriedly tapped on the mute button of her cell phone and moved lightly. She got out of bed and went to the balcony to answer the phone.

Jeanette asked him angrily, “Elias Burnham, what do you want?”

Elias sounded aggrieved as he replied, “What do I want? Didn’t you agree to buy me dinner? It happened to be my day off today!”

Jeanette was rendered speechless. “My ankle injury hasn’t healed yet. How do I go out for dinner with you…”

Elias smiled tenderly and said softly, “It’s okay, I’ll take care of you.”

Jeanette rolled her eyes. “Not today. Let’s go another day.”

Elias asked unwillingly, “Why not today?”

Jeanette thought of Damon, who was still sound asleep in bed, and her heart softened while her tone eased a little. “He’s home today…”

On the other end of the phone, Elias went silent for a few seconds. Finally, he answered, “Okay.”

After Jeanette hung up the phone, she turned around, only to find that Damon was standing right behind her. His handsome face was filled with darkness.

When she saw Damon’s expression, her heart sank. She instinctively hid the phone behind her.

“Who were you talking to?” he asked coldly.

Jeanette explained, “A friend.”

Damon took a step closer to her, but the dark expression on his face became more intense.

“Not today, another day… He’s home today” That was what he heard earlier. Based on what she said and how guilty she looked, how could he not overthink? Besides, on the day before yesterday, he had seen her tangled up with someone at the entrance of the hospital with his own eyes.

He continued probing. “What friend?”

Jeanette did not dare to mention Elias’ name since Damon had ruthlessly punished her the night before because of Elias.

“Just… a normal friend,” replied Jeanette, as she forced herself to take a step back due to the terrifying aura that Damon was emitting.

However, there was only very little space on the balcony, so she was forced into a corner when Damon stepped forward.

Damon looked down, his eyes dark and deep. “Give me the phone.”

Jeanette squeezed her phone tightly and said unwillingly, “Why should I give it to you? It’s my privacy!”

“Privacy?” Damon repeated the word mockingly. He did not want to bother wasting time, so he decided to take action.

Damon was tall and had long limbs. He stretched out his hand and wrapped his arm around Jeanette’s waist before pushing her into his arms. His other hand went around her and snatched her cell phone.

“Damon, what are you doing?!” Jeanette was about to snatch it back, but Damon held her in his arms with force, and she was unable to move.

He easily stopped Jeanette from making the slightest movement with just one hand. At the same time, he used the other hand to hold the phone in front of his eyes and unlocked the screen. He immediately checked the call log that had not been closed, and the caller ID on the very top was an unpleasant sight—it was Elias.

Damon’s face suddenly became cold, and at that very moment, the phone vibrated. It was a text message from Elias.

“I don’t care if he’s home. You must come to meet me in the next few days!” It sounded domineering and flirtatious.

Damon was furious when he saw the message. He instantly started clenching his fingers, almost crushing the phone screen.

“Jeanette, are you that desperate? You’re planning an affair with another man right in front of me?”
