Day 14-Welcome

I stand in front of the house where I'll stay for the next year and a half. Mr. Knights drove me here. “Are you going to enter anytime soon?” he asks.

I turn back to him. “Are you coming in?”

He shakes his head. “No, I have work to handle.”

I nod and say, “Okay, thank you.”

“Call me if you need anything,” he tells me. I know I won't, but I answer with an okay anyway. He winds up his windshield, and they drive away. He called and offered to drop me off, and I agreed.

Last night, when I got home, Mom was waiting for me on the couch. She wasn't happy, that's for sure. I tried to tell her I was doing this on my freeway, but she said she knew me well enough to know I was lying.

Flashback:

> “You're still up? I thought you should be resting.” I say as I place my bag down. “Why can't you at least rest?”

“I am resting. Have you checked the internet?” she goes straight to the point.

“No, I haven't,” I admit. “I don't plan to do so yet.”

“Scared of what they might say about you?”
