My hands roamed over the bed, in search of a familiar warmth. Nothing....

My eyes flew open, and I sat up, looking around the room. There was no one, aside me in the bedroom. I felt a sudden emptiness in my heart, at the absence of Kaden.

Where had he gone to?

Lost in thoughts, I didn't acknowledge the presence of another party in the room, until she cleared her throat.

I turned to see a cloaked figure, with her hands placed on her lap. She blinked.

"Mother?" I frowned. Since when did we become close, to the point where she could enter my bedroom?

"You were sleeping, so I didn't want to disturb you." She said solemnly, her chest heaving.

"Disturb? Since when did you care about my wellbeing?" I asked, a look of mockery clearly plastered on my face.

She winced. "I care about you, more than you can ever think..." Her voice cracked at the end.

I sneered, betting my pretty toes that it was all an act. What was she up to?
